That sure as hell wasn't in any book or movie Alex remembers seeing. So this is a guy who's...killed someone. Probably killed lots of people. And probably regrets it. Now has the capacity to regret it? It's not entirely clear how it works, but it doesn't have to be. The basics are outlined well enough.

"So you have a soul now," Alex repeats, more for his own sake than anything else, "which makes you all...soulful. And, uh...willing to help. Which is nice." Might as well get that out of the way now, because he's grateful for it, he honestly is. He wasn't sure how else he'd deal with...anything if he went off the rails again and there was no one to stop him from killing someone who matters.

"All right," he says, bracing his hands across his knees with a shrug. "I, uh, won't pretend I understand exactly how that works. But, hey, it's good enough for me."
