The show must go on, Satine!
Who: Lovers of musicals, and people who are dragged along
Where: 3rd floor tea room
When: Saturday July 9, 8:00pm to 12:30am
Rating: Depends on the thread. Please put warnings as appropriate!
Summary: Two musicals in one night! Moulin Rouge for the people who believe in love stories; Sweeney Todd for the sickos. It's a mingle, so go ahead and post top-level comments and tag around!
The Story:
On Friday, July 8, at around 7:00pm a text goes out to allWonderlandians Wonderdudes Wonderlies Wonderland people:
Saturday evening comes around and the third floor tea room has been revamped once again! (Yes, it took her twenty-four hours to set this up. Come on, she's one scrawny geek with a lazy punk helper.) It's large enough to accommodate a bigger crowd, with couches, beanbags, and multiple side tables laden with all sorts of snacks (popcorn bowls, hotdogs in buns, soft drinks, juice, and other kinds of typical teenager junk food). A screen has been positioned higher up on the wall so everyone can see it, with a projector discreetly placed on a tall podium near the other end of the room, and speakers hidden throughout the entire area. The air is cold but there's comforters spread around for whoever wants to use them them. The decorations (quite a few curtains!) are gaudy, full of bright colors and shiny small lights, reminiscent of the olden cabarets. Mingling even during the movies is obviously encouraged given the proximity of seats to one another and the altogether underground and casual air of the venue, but if you raise your voice expect a collective annoyed "Shh!" in your direction.
The numerous lights are dimmed (it takes Max a while of fumbling, but she gets it done) in time before the first movie at 8:00pm. It's Moulin Rouge!, the eccentric and charming story of the namesake cabaret in Paris- specifically of a wild (and wildly told) love story that takes place there. Writer turns singer and performer turns lover in this spectacular film!
There's a thirty minute break afterward from 10:00pm to 10:30pm. It's around this time that people not interested in Sweeney Todd would leave- and those interested in the second film would arrive. In all honesty, Max isn't too strict about teens not having adults with them, but do expect at least a light scolding (unless you look intimidating). After all, Sweeney Todd isn't your typical musical. It's gory and gross and makes no apologies- but deep down, you'll find it's actually a story about friendship, romance, and good food!
By 12:30 the show is over. There's some effort on Max's part to clean up, but it's halfhearted because Wonderland will fix it all up anyway. Off to bed with you lot! Or, if you're part of the insomniac club, back to your regular, quiet evening.
[[OOC: Mingle-log! Feel free to make your top-level comments for any point/s in the evening.]]

Showing Moulin Rouge! and Sweeney Todd tomorrow night at 8:00pm and 10:30pm respectively, at the 3rd floor tea room! Moulin Rouge is a very silly musical about Paris cabaret and love, while Sweeney Todd is a graphic musical about eviltm and love (when you think about it).
Sorry, but no kids below 13... And if you're watching Sweeney Todd and are below 18, you have to bring an adult who can vouch for your ability to not be seriously disturbed by gore and Johnny Depp. 1 adult = 1 teen only, please! (Yes, Wonderland years count.)
...Come on guys, bear with me here I'm trying to not get in trouble. -_-

[Before the movies]
As with her previous Twilight Zone and X-Files showing, Max is nervous as hell. She's by no means the cheerful host that greets visitors at the door. Instead she stays seated on her beanbag, mentally trying to keep track of how many people actually show up. Though it's not clear to her how, she managed to convince Wonderland to provide her with a larger room this time... which will just add to the embarrassment if few people attend. There's loads of food that will go to waste... and Moulin Rouge! is such a silly movie, people probably don't expect it to be that weird... But she likes it so much, just like with Sweeney Todd, and... man, she just wants people to like it too. She fiddles with the camera on her lap, completely forgetting to actually take photos of the occasion.
[During either movie (might be a three-way thread with Chloe)]
Max is really glad to be watching these with Chloe. She wants to hear her best friend's reactions to the musicals- good or bad. She's pretty darn sure Chloe's already seen (and liked) Sweeney Todd, but Moulin Rouge! is up in the air as far as that goes.
Throughout the night she also snaps pictures of peoples' various reactions. Expect a flash now and then from one side of the room- there's no way to make a flash bulb discreet, and if the lighting is too low then all your laughing faces will come out as blurs.
[After Sweeney Todd]
And it's done. Max can't tell if she's relieved or tired. Regardless of the attendance, she had a good time, and she's no longer worried about making a good impression. She can be found near the door, watching people leave.
"What did you think of the movies?" she says to some random viewers (bonus points if they look friendly).

She doesn't really warm to the singing, but the story of Sweeney Todd has her rapt. She identifies so deeply with a film about this sort of obsessive, bloody revenge, and is strengthened by the thought that the need for vengeance still burned so strongly in Todd after so many years -- she still says the names every night, still trains every day, but she's so scared of being here so long that she forgets all the wrongs done to herself and her family, and all the people she intends to track down. She sees herself slitting their throats with Needle just as the man on the screen is doing with his razors, and reflects that baking Joffrey into a pie to serve to the Queen would be a beautiful way to get even.

Chara | OTA, will match action/prose
Adult permission. That's a load of bullhonkey, that's what that is. Chara was born before most of the adults they know were! They don't need anyone's permission to do anything.
Their initial plan was to just walk right in and sit down brazenly. They're pretty sure Max would be too scared of them to even try and kick them out. But... hey, if they're already assured they can get away with bulldozing their way in, why not go the extra mile?
They're doing it. They're living the dream. Their life has become a literal cartoon, and nothing can stop them.
Behold: a definite total absolute adult walks in. Look, they're tall as an adult. (Or, to be specific, as tall as two Charas. Or one Chara and one Frisk stacked on top of each other.) Never mind that the trenchcoat they're in looks suspiciously lumpy, or that Chara sort of wobbles awkwardly every time they move too quickly, or that Chara has to keep whispering directions to the middle of the trenchcoat so it doesn't shuffle into walls. This is definitely an adult, and not Chara sitting on Frisk's shoulders.
Definitely.
[After Sweeney Todd]
It's late, but Chara isn't the least bit tired. They loved this movie. It may well have been the coolest thing they've ever seen. The gloomy-yet-absurd Tim Burton aesthetic, the blood, the music, the blood, the razors, the blood... now this is the kind of thing Chara can get behind! Their legs swing excitedly in their seat as the film ends, and they have their prized switchblade in their hands - the blade, thankfully, still concealed, but the way they toy with it probably isn't encouraging.
"I'm asking the closet for a copy of that. No, six copies," they announce, bright-eyed and eager.

During the first movie, he's rapt, the bright and colorful spectacle that is Moulin Rouge proving to be more than enough to hold his attention unfailingly. Between the films, he gets up and does his part to mingle, brightly striking up conversations with new faces by the snack table and, at least once, he can be seen using his own fire magic to re-warm a couple of hot dogs that might have been left sitting out just a little too long.
Sweeney Todd, too, captures him, though for this one he remains on the edge of his seat, brows drawn downwards as the movie becomes increasingly grim, though midway through, it earns more than a few morbid chuckles from him as well. As the evening draws to a close, he stays behind long enough to assist with the clean up, even if Wonderland will do the lion's share of the work once they've left-- there's something to be said for having a mage right some of the furniture with a wave of his hand.]

Jane's been on a mission (a fun one) to see all sorts of different movies, to expose herself to most anything in film because she wants to know, wants to experience things that have been wiped out of her memory. Sometimes when she watches movies, she has an odd sense of deja vu, but during this movie, that doesn't happen. No, during 'Come What May' she finds herself emotional.
Sure, Nicole Kidman is dying but Jane's relating, hard, to some specific lyrics and there's a definite lump in her throat as she watches. When it's all over, she's pretty lost in thought both because the movie made her think about her relationship (or lack thereof?) with Kurt, but also about how she's actually relating to a musical about a prostitute and a poet just minus the death. And singing and dancing. Really minus everything the story was about except heartbreak. Which means she's lost in thought as she gets some snacks to load up for the second movie musical.
[Sweeny Todd/after.]
Annnnnd that was violent, which has Jane sort of looking around a little, one hand going to her throat subconsciously before looking at her plate of untouched food. She was too captivated by all the murder to do anything else. But now she stands and eats as she watches people mingle and leave, still thinking over the fact that people were eating those pies.
"I can't help but question every meat product here now," she says to whomever happens to be nearby.
