[Stan hates passing through dreams like this. It's not even because the shuffling is unsettling (even though it is) - it just takes him forever to get through them. He's taken to calling them "anxiety mazes", for lack of a better word. They're not always literal mazes but the whole point of them is to be lost and uncomfortable and for fuck's sake can't he just step through someone else's dreams to get from Point A to Point B without getting caught up in their nightmares?
It's taking him too long to find a good exit point. He's not trying to meddle, but in a moment of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Stan winds up being that "shuffling noise" just behind her. He's not the mysterious shuffling, but he's a mysterious shuffling and thus an easy target to latch onto.]
