With a place like Wonderland, you start running into people here and there, even if you don't say hi you tip your hat and acknowledge and keep it going. York isn't a particularly unfamiliar face, but Chuck wouldn't say he knew him - or his name, really. But a familiar face is welcome sometimes in the lateness of the night, and when he's joined at the bar he shifts on his stool to a slightly more approachable stance.
