⎊ [Closed] Oh just imagine the freedom
Who: Tony Stark and Bucky Barnes, Leo Fitz, Darcy Lewis, Steve Rogers, Clint Barton, Coraline, Isabela
Where: Various
When: 1st-5th
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Event things
The Story:
Leo Fitz [Gryffindor] "This is a place where your mind can escape"
Tony pinched the bridge of his nose in light frustration as he listened to the student object. The boy was brilliant--Ravenclaw material, if he did say so himself--but the kid was just... Tony sighed. Okay, so he understood the fear. After he lost his parents, it was difficult for him to get back on a broom, let alone hit the skies of his own volition, but he'd overcome it. He just needed to help young Mr. Fitz do the same somehow.
"We'll start off slow. Just a few inches off the ground until you're used to it. I'm not asking you to join the Quidditch team, I'm just asking you to learn the basics of handling a broom. Learn it, pass the course, and you never have to touch a broom again. But, if you do need to fly for whatever reason in the future, you'll know how and be less likely to do something stupid." He dropped his hand away from his face and reached for his own Nimbus.
"Do you see where I'm coming from, here?"
Bucky Barnes [Slytherin | DAtDA Prof] "All the problems today and go far, far away"
Lord forbid, there was a time when he almost ended up in the same house as Barnes. It would've been all kinds of humiliating to bring that news home when he was a kid. It didn't bother him so much now and the company he kept from that house wasn't all that bad, either.
Yes, he was a professor and yes, he was supposed to set a good example for the young, impressionable students, but damn if he didn't need to relax from time to time. He wasn't sure when the not-so-regularly scheduled 'teacher's meetings' turned into their 'get together and take the edge off' time, but it had. That was why he found himself quickly and silently moving through the halls to the fourth floor. He moved a well practised path to a room that was out of sight and out of mind to most. Once through, he set a small satchel of miniature items. After uncovering the pair of cups and the keg-like container, he tapped them with his wand and muttered a charm that brought them right back to full size. The miniaturisation made for much easier transport. Honestly, they could just stop on by the Leaky Cauldron, but this was more fun.
"I'm late again, aren't I? Guess that means that I owe you a drink." He flashed a teasing smirk as he filled their glasses and held one out to the Slytherin House Head.
Barnes was one of the few that would actually share a drink or two with him on weekends, so he made it a point to always treat the man. It wasn't like Stark couldn't afford it.
Steve Rogers [Hufflepuff | History of Magic Prof] "This is a time with no history, welcome to Mystery"
Now, there was something to be said about sharing drinks with Barnes. Honestly, he couldn't remember who introduced him to whom, but one of them definitely introduced him to the other at some point in his life. Barnes was good company. So was Rogers. The two were inseparable, and that helped liken Tony to the pair.
The day was tipping into evening and even the latest classes were getting out. It was getting far too dark to safely flit about a broom with uncoordinated newbies, so Tony waited for Steve's lecture to finish up. The flying instructor was leaned against the door frame, watching students pour out of Steve's classroom, chattering with eachother and paying him no mind. It wasn't an uncommon sight to see Stark waiting for Rogers' last class to end. The occasional greeting or question was posed to him, and he'd respond in kind.
It wasn't until Steve's classroom was empty that Tony stepped inside, casually making his way to Rogers at his desk. Tony nudged a few chairs under tables as he passed them then leaned his hip against Steve's podium.
"That one went on a bit longer than usual. Did you get carried away again, Rogers? You know, when I took this class, I slept through it." Like he hadn't told Steve that a thousand times before. "How do you make it so interesting?"
Darcy Lewis [Hufflepuff] "Imagine a city where everything's pretty"
"Alright, look." Tony reached out and settled both hands on her broomstick, holding it steady for her. "I have watched you dodge my class for five years, and I have seen you worm your way out of practise all year. I get it. But you're wrong. Flying? That's not scary. Falling. That's what's scary. I'm not asking you to do barrel rolls or acrobatics, here. I'm asking you to pass my class." Tony let go of her broom and stepped back a step.
"You handle a broom too well to be an amature. I teach amatures to fly for a living, remember? You might fool everyone else--hell, you might even fool your brother. But I'm not asking for another flying circus act, I'm asking you to get on that broom, complete the course, and pass. It kills me to fail you for something I know you can handle."
When did his life become reasoning with kids? When did his life become begging students to get on a damn broom? Between Lewis and Fitz, he had his work cut out for him in that department. Most students he had to beat away from brooms with a broom!
Clint Barton [Hufflepuff] "And you sir, you rule the kingdom"
"Clint Barton, it's a broom not a surf board!" Stark yelled, leaning forward to streamline himself and increase speed to reach the acrobatic nutcase. This kid... He was going to give Tony a heart attack! He'd seen the little clown take falls for the thrill of it and catch himself just before he hit the ground.
"Face forward and put your feet back in the stirrups or I'll have you pulled from the Quidditch team!" Yeah, no he wouldn't. The kid was ace and they both knew it. But dammit, if the aerial ace broke his neck, he'd be off the team anyway! "Take a page out of your sister's book and show gravity a little respect before it decides to remind you just how it works." He was flying alongside the Hufflepuff Seeker with the intention to catch the troublemaker should he fall.
Coraline Jones [Gryffindor] "You call the shots, you can do what you want to"
It was starting to get dark and the last of the students were being ushered off the field. Tony was taking a tally of the brooms, like every evening before lock-up, and as usual--wait. A broom was missing! He double-counted and came to the same conclusion. He scanned the field to ensure it hadn't just been left out by a forgetful student, but found nothing.
From time to time, Tony had encountered uppity students running off with brooms to play around on, and while he had been one of them in his youth, he also felt responsible for them if anything happened. He didn't care if you were born on a broom, this wasn't going to fly! Pun not intended...
"Accio Nimbus!" Tony called, waving his wand. Wherever the Student had been going, she would find herself suddenly dragged right back to the field, only to stop right before her Professor who looked just a smidge annoyed. "Oh, look. Silly broom. Ran off with one of my students. That has to be what happened because I'm certain it couldn't be the other way around. Right, Miss Jones?"
Isabela [Slytherin | Wizard Duel Prof] "Just you and the missus and rose-scented kisses, my what a wonderful feeling"
How long had he known her? How long had they been going steady? They were both shy to commitment, but it just felt... right. There she was, sitting at their table, waiting for him to show and good lord, those weren't butterflies in his stomach, they were owls!
Stark approached, looping his arms around her waist from behind and kissing her temple affectionately. It was brief contact, and he pulled away seconds later to set a wineglass down before her. Inside the shimmering, bubbly liquid, she would notice almost immediately, that the glass didn't just hold a drink. Inside, resting innocently in the bottom of the glass was a ring. Around the stem of the glass was a golden tag with animated letters that glittered on their own, casting small rainbows against the glass and on the table. It read: Isabela, will you marry me?
"I'll take a knee and beg if I have to." He whispered against the shell of her ear.
