I don't wanna grow up; I'm a Toys R Us kid

Who: Rip Hunter and You!
Where: The True Lab
When: Mar 10-14
Rating: PG/PG-13 max?
Summary: Rip’s a time master trapped in his own 10 year old body. What’s a kid to do?
The Story:

Day One

[Certain differences are immediately apparent when Rip opens his eyes: this is not his typical room in Wonderland, which perhaps should be expected. After all, only a few days before the girl without eyes came over the network to announce the next event to come, as cryptic and untelling as always. Seems they’ve been transported again, and while there’s no apparent flooding, Rip heaves out a quiet sigh anyway.

Which is when he noticed the next major difference--that soft puff of breath? Most certainly did not sound like his.

Sitting upright with a start, Rip holds out his hands, now so much smaller than they should be. When he touches his face there’s nothing but smooth skin instead of his typical beard and moustache, and his hair is different. Everything’s different, and hadn’t the girl said something about not wanting to age?]

--Oh bloody hell.

[The voice confirms it; he’s been regressed, somehow, back into the body of a child. Rip (because he is still Rip at least in mind, thank goodness for small favors) hops out of the bed, making his way over to the nearest reflective surface to try and get an idea of how old he appears. Once he’s got that figured out, he starts exploring the area, looking for comrades and answers both. At least they still have their communication devices this time; that’s a plus, and Rip expects someone will be over the network in short order to tell them all what’s going on.

All the better; even this early on, Rip can’t shake the sense that something’s very wrong.]

Day Two - Day Three

[Jigsaws and teenagers and monsters, oh my.

Not that Rip’s current body is old enough to count as that second one. He’s only ten or so physically, yet that doesn’t stop him from being very much himself when it comes to the various trials and ordeals this weird little event has to offer. Of course he spends a fair bit of time working on the jigsaw puzzles after someone figures out they’re the key to--well, the keys. Of course it’s easier said than done, given that whoever designed them apparently decided to go for one of the most sadistic designs possible.

Not to mention that someone keeps stealing Rip’s puzzle pieces whenever he gets bored, damn it Mick.

But this return to childhood isn’t just made of games. Rip has to walk away from his efforts pretty often, in part because it kind of hurts to look at all those brightly colored pieces for too long, but also because there’s a growing sense of restlessness, anxiousness in the back of his mind. Part of it’s been there since the start, yet it flares particularly when Rip starts to get hungry. Perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that being back in the shape of a child would bring memories of starving so close to the surface--yet that does little to ease that sense of dread, and quite often Rip can be found where there is food, grabbing either something to eat right then or to tuck away in his pockets.

That’s just the mundane stuff though. The residents of Wonderland aren’t alone in this lab; by now everyone has no doubt taken notice of the monsters roaming about, all of impossible shapes and size. Rip, for his part, tries to stay away from them. He’s not in the mood for pointless fighting, and it’s easier to take advantage of his quickness and size both, dashing forward, climbing over equipment, crawling under beds, or doing whatever else he needs to in order to stay out of the monster’s path. Of course, if someone else were to be around, that could be problematic--

And even someone like Rip couldn’t just let that other person become the bait should he accidentally lead a monster towards them.]

Day Four

[Between the distractions and the difficulties of the puzzles, Rip’s little group has had too little success getting the keys they need to get into the next portion of the lab. Time for a different tactic, and Rip opts to employ the skills he perfected on the streets of old time London as a child cutpurse.

That’s right; he’s out to pick pockets.

Anyone might find themselves a target: someone walking along, minding their own business? Please don’t mind the ten-year-old who bumps into them, barely bothering to call out a quick “excuse me” before running off. Standing somewhere not paying attention? Perhaps they won’t even feel a small hand reach into their pockets for whatever might be found. If Rip can find a partner, he might even orchestrate a distraction, have them cause enough of a ruckus to gather a crowd--all the better for hitting up multiple targets at once.

Of course, whether or not he gets caught remains to be seen. His skills are a little rusty at first--and some people are just too observant for Rip’s good. Not that getting caught is necessarily enough to make him give whatever he took back. He’s a survivor with fight to match his cleverness. Even if he’s spotted in the act, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s just going to give up.]

Day Five

[Finally, finally their team has gotten enough keys for everyone to make it through--and once everyone stops being distracted for five minutes, they actually do head into the second floor of the lab. From there it’s back to exploring, but this time with a purpose: Rip can’t shake the feeling that they need to hurry, that they’ve taken too long, every nerve on edge. He makes his way through the corridors quickly, especially when he comes across the vats and realizes what’s within--

--and what it means they have to do.]
