Summary: Wonderland's music festival is here! Perform on stage or just chill, mingle and eat snacks!
The Story:




The actual event doesn't start until the evening, but if you happen to pass by the lake in the morning, you may hear the sounds of people decorating along with a stage being put together. If anyone has time to spare, a lending hand in setting things up is always welcome!

When the sun starts to set, the main attraction of the event is finally in place. Upon entry, everyone will be handed out glowsticks and glow in the dark bracelets. A varietly of lights surrounding the area were there to brighten up the stage. Colored lights were strung together on poles and paper latern bags were also used to illuminate the setting. In the center, is a make shift stage. While it wasn't anything like a live arena, there was still quite a bit of room in case anyone wanted to sing with several people and dance. The stage is open for anyone to participate! Singing, playing an instrument, dancing, or even terrible karaoke with friends. Everyone is invited to have fun and enjoy themselves!

Even if you don't have any musical talents, you can still join in by watching the performances or chat with others. A snack table with a variety of treats and drinks is set up for everyone. There's a variety of cookies, cakes, fruits, cheeses and even Japanese food like riceballs, cabbage rolls and croquettes. Made by the suggestion of John Blake are all sorts of speciality popcorns like, chile-lime, s'mores and cheddar caramel corn. There's a lot of food and everyone is welcome to take anything with them in goodie bags.

[ that's probably not a funny joke. then again, akechi isn't in the best of spirits the past couple of days. and now with the little joke his closet has decided to pull on him, he's less than enthused. but souji has, at the very least, been cordial with him in the past, so the familiar face is a welcomed distraction from the train wreck that is His Life. ]

[Souji looks up from inspecting a handful of rice ball and a handful of popcorn.]

Not so far.

[He's deadpan enough in his response that for someone who doesn't know him well--or isn't very observant--it might be difficult to tell whether or not he's serious.]

I was wondering if popcorn onigiri would be a good idea. Or popcorn croquettes.

[ ... interesting. ]

I'd imagine it'd be a bit dry. The flavor profile would be interesting, at the very least.

[ he can't believe he's giving the idea actual consideration. nonetheless, he glances away from souji in favor of looking off towards the stage. ]

Are you performing at all?

[Souji follows Akechi's gaze and looks up at the stage as well.]

I don't plan to. [He looks back.] Are you?

[ ... have you seen his outfit!? ]

Not particularly, no. [ a pleasant smile, at least, is shot souji's way. ]

...How have you been, at any rate?

[Hey, Souji doesn't judge. Besides, it looks like the kind of thing a person might wear on stage...]

Events aside, everything's been normal.

[Having reached the six year mark in Wonderland has just made him more pensive than normal. It's causing an odd feeling of lethargy that he needs to shake off.]

I feel like I haven't seen you around much, though.

[ six years. he isn't sure he would stay sane. he tenses up more than necessary at the mention of an event. ]

Despite what the media portrays, I'm not exactly an extrovert.

[ but it's said calmly, not meant to be standoffish. ]

[Souji notices that tension. It piques his curiosity.]

I guess being on TV would make you seem different from how you really are.

[With his own ace detective to think about, and being a good four or so years removed from Akechi, he has yet to see him on TV.]

I wouldn't have called myself extroverted, either.

[He just seems to...accumulate people.]

That's the charm of television. It caters to the audience's interests.

[ the smile is strained and he curiously reaches to try one of the croquettes. it's surprisingly delightful and the smile turns a bit more genuine. ]

And really? You seem like the type that is easy to talk to.

[ his way of wording things is remarkable. ]

[Truly remarkable.

But before they start talking about the fact that Souji is just plain nosy and gets into everyone's business, he decides to change the subject.]

You seem kind of tense.

[Maybe it's the outfit?]

[jurisdick]

[ he's going to blame it on the outfit!! ]

My apologies, I didn't realize I was being that obvious. [ a beat; a pause for internal despair. ]

This is ... hardly something I'd be wearing of my own volition.

[ there's nothing else bothering him. nope. not at all. he's as cool as a cucumber. and he isn't peering over his shoulder every two seconds. ]

I don't think I know any guy who would.

[Except Teddie, who doesn't count.

Souji continues to take in Akechi's behavior and cants his head to one side.]

Are you worried about something?

[jurisdick]

... Why do you think that?

[ it's so true, though. so painfully, painstaking true. ]

Either way, I wouldn't want to distract you with something so insignificant when there's a festival.

[ akechi, you realize that's an admission, right? ]

If it's got you worked up, it's not insignificant.

[Akechi has always been quite calm in their previous interactions, at least. For the most part. There are moments when Souji thinks there's more to his words than there seems, but he's never been able to place what that might be.]

[jurisdick]

[ fine then. he'll frame this situation very vaguely, then. ]

That event most recently. I didn't know that this place was capable of rewriting memories.

[ there, that should be enough information without entirely tipping his hand. ]

It's pretty alarming after the fact.

[It's certainly a real cause for concern. Souji can't blame him for being unsettled by it. But...]

Why do you keep looking over your shoulder?

[jurisdick]

[ kurusu. he's keeping a weary eye out for kurusu. ]

I suppose I still have jitters after last week. My apologies if I'm distracted.

[ he just used the word jitters unironically. ]

Don't worry about it.

[Souji wonders if there's not more to it than that--it doesn't really add up to him. But he shakes his head.]

You just usually seem really calm. So it's surprising.

[ it's remarkable how unexpected situations can make you lose all those years of practicing a poker-face. he avoided the unknown for this exact reason. ]

I suppose that's true. [ he forces a very tired smile and looks back at souji. ]

Has that happened to you since you've been here?

Lots of times. [Having been here so long, it's probably to be expected.] Especially after the third time I died.

[That...feels like an odd thing to say out loud. He doesn't talk about his deaths much.]

[ .... excuse him? while he's learned that it's possible to die here (and come back) hearing it mentioned so candidly catches him off guard. especially with all that he knows. ]

... You certainly are a magnet for danger.

[ it's meant as a joke, but he can't help but think it's partially true. ]

Maybe. It's been three years since then, though.

[He thinks it's pretty good that in six years, he's only died three times. That means he only has one more get out of jail free card, though.]

Is there any reason for that? Or just pure luck?

[ he hasn't exactly heard about what happens when you die too many times. one death is more than enough for him, thank you very much. ]

Luck, mostly.

[Sure, he's been looking out for danger, but he had been the second and third time, too, and he'd still died.]

There are times when something like that turns out to be unavoidable.

I suppose I should consider myself lucky that things have, for the most part, been fairly tame since May. The calm before the storm, maybe.

[ looking on the bright-side! maybe. he shrugs and can't help sneak another peek over his shoulder - goddamnit. ]
