[Closed] Well there is something going down...
Who: Davina and Kol/Kaleb
Where: Davina's Room
When: Evening of 1/12 after this
Rating: PG-13? Possible talks of death, things, idk
Summary: Dealing with the whole no magic mess and avoiding the crap going on outside.
The Story:
When he'd agreed to talk in person, she didn't plan on giving him the time to rethink it. After shooting off her floor and room number, she busies herself tidying up what had been an herb explosion as she'd tried to work around the mansion's sudden need to rip away her magic. While she didn't have quite the same level of disdain as Kaleb, it was uncomfortable.
On the other hand, though... She'd always longed to be 'normal' so having no powers versus having powers she couldn't control? She'll take the first any day.
Soft music playing in the background, she waits and channels her nervous energy into making her bed. That's something normal people did, right? Tidied up while waiting for company, jazz filling the room with sweet dissonance. She could even set out a few drink options if the subject didn't stand the chance of going dark. She'd started to fill a pitcher with water before stopping herself, not needing more things to remind her of Tim and his unnecessary death.
No, there was more than enough of that already.
Leaving the pitcher in the bathroom, she grabs a book and sits on the couch - a throw blanket draped over her as the fire she'd worked very hard to build like a normal person continued to pop and crackle.

It wasn't a coincidence that there was the sound of shuffling in the room next to her after Kol ended the feed to pull a jacket on. He only took a moment to stare at himself in the mirror in his bathroom, poking at his forehead a bit before letting out a huff. Then the door could be heard being closed next door... A moment later Kol's knocking on her door. Surprise neighbour.
Really, it's surprising she didn't hear the racket of his tizzy earlier.
There was no way to even know what to expect from her - this conversation they were going to have? Her death is the farthest thing from his mind.
Esther wasn't here. He could tell her who he was, he could clear things up and do what he wanted, instead of what he was told. ]
no subject
Oh my god. Was he - was he really next door?
Jumping up to her feet, she adjusts the pale pink sundress as she crosses to the door.]
He-oh my god... What did you do to your face? [Rather than waiting for an answer, she sighs and ushers him inside before making a beeline to the bathroom for her little first aid kit.]

After a moment of lingering, he ventures further in, fingers dragging across surfaces that he find himself near, pausing to look at her makeshift alter. ]
I bumped it. [ Clearly that isn't a lie but it isn't the whole story either. ] You've got a lovely room.
[ Quietly he wanders closer to the alter, fingers tracing over the nearby mortar and pestle before finding glass jars, he picks one up, looking at the herbal contents before placing it back down. He still had jars in his room that he needed to purify, but with the closet going mad, he hasn't gotten to it. ]
no subject
After giving it a little bit, she takes his hand to guide him over to the couch.]
Let me take a closer look at it.
no subject
When they make it over to the couch he keeps his hand with hers, blue eyes watching her befrore he sits. He's quiet with a silent intensity but eventually withdraws his hand to allow her to play doctor if she wishes. ]
I've had worse before.
[ But he's not going to keep her from trying to sort it out if she wants. ]
Davina, can I trust you?
no subject
Resting a knee on the couch, her brows knit slightly at the question. She doesn't stop dabbing his forehead, the injury clearly not from something as simple as a bump.
Later, though.
With a sigh, she leans back a little to look down at him - her expression serious.]
Yes. [A beat.] Can I trust you?
popcorns
Not before - but you certainly can now that I'm not having to keep an eye on you for me mum. [ Honestly is a good trait, right. ] To be honest I much prefer you to her.
[ He keeps talking refusing to give her a chance to flip out. ]
My name's Kol. Kol Mikaelson. I've got no reason to lie to you since I'm no longer playing flying monkey to the wicked witch. If either of us had our powers I'd let you read me. But it's probably a good thing we don't since I know how fond you are of me brother, Nik. I'd rather not be flung out a window. Before you go accusing - [ He lifts his hands up in surrender. ] I didn't have to tell you - I'm telling you because I want to Davina.
/cracks knuckles
But he's a witch. Elijah had said his mother had been a witch, though. The revelation was earning more questions than answers.
She turns to face him, unable to find the words. She can't fall back on her magic, can't lash out or do exactly what he suspects... chuck him out the window.]
Are you going to try and stop me?
[There's a lethality to her voice, the only thing she has to fall back on right now without her powers. It's her own test of him - a simple yes or no on the actual trust front. He'd better believe as soon as she gets her powers back, though, she'll be doing a full read on him.]
watch him get out of this without getting slapped
Stop you? [ Now he's curious. He doesn't move from his spot on the couch, allowing her whatever distance she likes for the time being lest she starts swinging. ] Stop you from what?
[ Blue eyes continue to watch her, trying to read what she plans on doing next. ] Anything you plan on doing I probably support, love. My family is a bunch of loons - I'm sort've the odd man out. I always have been. Mother dearest is madder than a winter hatter, brothers are utter sods and Beks... well, we agree to disagree most of the time.
this is seriously probably the only safe time to tell her
[Determination isn't something she's lacking in, even if she has to fake the confidence to back it sometimes. The words of the Ancestors are always on the forefront of her mind, something else that makes her glad that she doesn't have her powers right now. He's technically her own kind and hurting him would be going against their word.
With a huff, she crosses back to him, pouring a little alcohol on the gauze. She presses it to his forehead quickly, the upset clear.]
Your mom, she made the grimoires that Elijah has?
[Because this particular bomb was going to take some time to process and right now, she was hurting for allies.]
he's honestly afraid she's gonna start swinging
[ So what if he knows exactly how to weasel her into helping him with the dagger for Klaus, it's a win win for them both. If he had known how his brother would treat him not further on from his timeline he'd be furious, he'd help her kill Klaus.
When she turns back to him, he watches her carefully, anticipating some kind of attack, so seeing her pour alcohol into the gauze has him trying to ready himself from what he knows is coming... And even then...
He sucks a hissing breath in through his teeth, and winces as the sting hits him. ]
Ah - the grimoires, yeah, she is. Is he the one hoarding 'em?
[ Daring, he brings his hand up to ghost over hers trying to coax her into pulling the gauze away. ]
He's just lucky he's cute
Daggering is something she'll be open to down the road, just give her time. The wounds are still too fresh for her to think of anything other than destroying him.
She lets her hand pull away at his urging, settling next to him on the couch.]
Yes. Kale- Kol. I take it the others don't know. Are you planning on telling them?
c:
[ Are you planning on telling them? ]
Not yet, so I'd appreciate it if you kept this little detail between us and only us.
[ He pauses for a moment before bringing up his previous train of thought once again. ]
What if there was a way to... neutralize him without killing him? Like the daggers?
no subject
She gives a nod, letting out a sigh.] Ok, it'll be our secret.
[She didn't owe them anything, the only one she actually kind of liked being Rebekah. She had an understanding with Elijah, but none of them had gotten quite this close to her.]
Can that work on him? I mean I feel like if it were possible it would've happened by now. [Or was he just that crafty... And daggering him would keep Marcel and Josh alive. It's an option.]
no subject
[ The grin that spreads across Kol's face as he stares at her makes it obvious that he does.
He shifts to face her on the couch, pressing his back into the corner where the armrest and the backrest. A hand is brought up to rub at his chin as he listens to her. ]
Mmmm, don't get ahead of yourself, love. The daggers don't work on him, he's immune to them.... As they are that is.
[ Buuuuuut. ]
There's a way to change them, we can change them. We can make them work on him, or at least one of them.
no subject
She tucks her feet underneath her, shifting as he does to lean against the cushioned back. So, the daggers don't work, better to find that out now than during a failed test.]
Change them? How? [Because it sounds complicated already and she didn't have the power she once had, enough juice to send him to his knees and begin to force the transition. Sorry Kol, but she's a little unsure of herself and her abilities.]
no subject
[ The sheer amount of smug on his face makes it clear that he means he did it. Because he is the reason most of them are floating around. ]
When I couldn't practice magic, I spent my time learning about it, trying to find a way around the little bump of being a vampire. I learned the art of Kemiya.
[ He shifts digging into one of his pockets to withdraw his hand, closed and concealing whatever he'd drawn from his pocket. ]
Can I show you something?
no subject
[She adjusts a little, focusing in on that. She didn't know that much about dark objects - not as much as she should. Her brows knit as she continues to listen. Her confusion just gets worse when he adds another element.
She nods at the question, her gaze fixing on his hand.]
What's kemiya...?
no subject
It's the intersection between science and spirit, darling. With the right chemistry, you can realize your wildest dreams.
[ Those exact words take him back to when he'd known her ancestor. ]
You find something that you can channel enough power through.
[ His eyes drift to the diamond. ]
Then you find someone that you have a certain connection with. Chemistry.
[ Without warning his gaze is on her again - with the same intensity it had held when she first saw him in the tea room. ]
And you and I are kindred spirits, Davina Claire.
no subject
There's a temptation to touch it, the only thing causing her to hesitate is that intensity. There was something different about it this time around. Something that had changed in her. The gaze carried more of a weight to it, more of an understanding of just what they could do together - the kind of power that could be tethered between them. If magic wasn't completely down, she wouldn't even entertain the idea right now...
And yet.
She leans in to brush a finger against the smooth surface, her eyes fixing on the diamond rather than him... Not sure she'd be able to breathe if she did.]
Kindred spirits. And can you channel the power through anything?
no subject
[ He moves slowly, as if trying not to startle her - both his hands find hers to place the diamond in the centre of her palm. Kol's gaze follows the lines in her hand as he speaks up again. ]
Keep this safe for me, okay? Until we can practice.
[ Gently he wraps her fingers around it, holding her hand there for a moment, the touch lingering before he turns her now closed hand over and draws it to his lips to kiss the top of her hand. Blue eyes flicker up to her, a grin playing across his face as he tries to assess her reaction.
He's not surprised he'd managed to worm his way out of her bad graces almost immediately. ]
no subject
Her opinion falls silent fairly quickly when he kisses her hand, only able to manage a small huff. The sound, though, is more of surprise than any annoyance - stunned silent for a moment.]
Ok.
[She was good at keeping things safe, especially when it came to keeping things out of the wide reach of the Old Ones. Clearing her throat, she pulls her hand from his and makes a quick beeline to a chest across the room. Fishing a key out of her pocket, she pulls open the door and unlocks the small box inside, quickly depositing the diamond.]
no subject
The witch is just as melodramatic as the rest of his family. The huff manages to draw a slight offended look from him - unsure of how he should take her reaction.
The short simple answer keeps him from complaining however and he allows her to retreat from him once again. Curiously he watches her. Kol almost wants to follow her over there and find out what else she's got hidden in there but he refrains, seeing it distasteful and rude. ]
And we'll deal with Nik.
[ The darkness to his tone, it's clear that he wants revenge on his sibling just as much as she does. ]
I wasn't lying - the things I've said about my family... Even if you don't remember 'em. I've been as honest with you as I possibly could be in my situation.
no subject
And she's glad he didn't come peek, because if he had, he might have noticed the bloody clothes she'd shoved into a corner of the chest. It wasn't something she knew what to do with, especially surrounded by those with enhanced senses of smell. In order to burn them, she'd need to take them outside and with her luck she'd run into someone.
Her room, though, was a sanctuary of sorts... Although if Kol knew of a way to mask the smell then she might be able to take care of it sooner rather than later - once their magic was returned. Her gaze lingers on them a little longer than they should have, face set in a soft frown as she turns back to him.]
And I appreciate that. [She takes a moment to settle back on the couch, eyes fixating on her hands as they settle in her lap. She could be honest, too.] How much do you know about death here? How it works?
[She'd work up to telling him about Klaus killing both her and Tim soon.]
no subject
[ Kol seems somewhat shocked that she appreciates it - instead of latching on that he hasn't been completely honest. Only as much as could keep him safe... Blue eyes linger on her before flickering to one of the nearby candles, still agitated he couldn't light it from where he was lounging on her sofa. ]
What do you mean? How it works? I've died before - twice, love.
[ He wasn't aware the rules of life and death were different here. If he was he might play it less safe, like challenging Klaus. But for now the vivid memories of having both a blade and a stake jabbed through his heart were enough to keep him from doing anything too dumb. The Mikaelson's attention turns to her own hands where hers were. ]
If you're going to give me some sort of mortality speech, I assure you I don't need it.
no subject
I'm not gonna give you a mortality speech. And you're not the only one who's died twice, three times technically now since I've been here.
[She sighs heavily, sliding a hand through her hair to move it slightly out of the way.]
This place, the magic that runs through here. When you die - it has the power to revive you. I wouldn't have believed it fully myself if I hadn't experienced it.
no subject
You've died and come back here?
[ His complete attention is back on her, and he even leans closer a bit, intrigued and worried for her. Unscrupulous eyes scan her over, looking for any signs of what may have happened. When he finds no clear cut signs to tell him, he asks the question at the front of his mind. ]
What happened?
[ Kol was paying attention to her information dump on their environment, but at the moment he was more curious about what happened to her. He could press her for information about death and revival once he'd figured out what exactly he'd missed. ]
no subject
[Hence her having asked him about ways to control it even if it seemed impossible.]
Other supernatural creatures lost control of their abilities - some gave in to bloodlust, others found a way to anchor themselves. [She tucks a strand of hair behind her ear, letting out a soft exhale.]
I haven't told anyone but Cami about it and even that wasn't supposed to happen. [Because it had been her plan to keep it to herself.]
no subject
And Cami, that sure is a name that turns up a lot, perhaps he should make amends with the woman, she obviously plays an important role in just about everything. ]
You shouldn't bottle things up. I'm going to trust you - and I hope you will learn to do the same, since it's obvious you're not the trustworthy sort.
[ He pauses, trying to decide where to go with this train of though. ] If you need someone to talk to... Well, I've got a pair of ears and I don't much fancy anyone else here enough to share your stories.
no subject
He's not here anymore so it's not important.
[Working on not bottling things up will take time - some things easier than others. It tended to be better this way, bearing the burdens alone. Less people got hurt. She likes him, though, she'll try for him. Extend the same trust he'd offered her.]
I will, I just need a little time. There's a lot - it - opening up about some things... I want to but you just need to be patient with me.
no subject
He knows she doesn't know him well enough. ]
Tell me if he shows back up.
[ He'll concede however, since he figures strong arming her into answering him would be a bad idea. So instead, Kol offers her a soft smile, tilting his head to the side a fraction of an inch. ]
I can do that.
[ A beat and then... ]
So you trust me then?
no subject
I promise.
[And that's sincere. He'll be the first to know if Mikael ever does actually show back up. Taking a risk of her own at the question, she reaches back out to take his hands, her eyes focusing on them for a moment before looking back up at him.]
I wouldn't have invited you over here when I'm completely defenseless if I didn't.
[Which is true. She'd initiated this contact and she wasn't regretting it.]
no subject
[ He seems to relax however, hidden tension only making itself known as it ebbs away from him. Slowly he tilts his hands over so their palms are touching, skinny fingers reaching out to touch her wrists. This was so not good. He'd started out flirting with her, when did he get this invested? ]
I wouldn't say completely defenseless, I'd hate to get on your bad side even without magic.
[ Kol gives her a soft smile, before reaching up to touch the injury on his head. ] Besides, I'm at a disadvantage.
no subject
[And when that trust is broken, it's detrimental. She watches with avid curiosity as he adjusts his hands. Her fingers curl slightly against his palms before they move to her wrists - a reminder of just how small she was in comparison to him.
It's a good conclusion to draw, people not tending to do well on her bad side.
The touch to his head, however, has her frowning again.]
Yeah, how exactly did you manage that?
no subject
[ He can't help but offer her a small smile, trying to decide how to answer her question. ]
It's really not important. You played Dr. Beautiful and sorted it out, I think I'm gonna make it.
[ Kol Mikaelson is flirting with you, Davina, how does that make you feel? ]
Maybe I should get hurt more often.
no subject
Clearing her throat, she lets her hands fall into her lap.]
We should make a game plan for whenever our magic comes back.
[Because it has to. Because she’s getting too close to him as is and that’s not okay. She’s been burned before by crushing on someone and having it blow up in her face. She can’t go through that again.]
no subject
And what kind've game plan do you want to make?
[ Really, that's vague. She could mean relating to Nik, or learning more spells, or even going on a date... Okay, she didn't mean the last one, but Kol likes to think she does. ]
You invited me over to try get it back, didn't you?
no subject
Maybe, but I don't think we're gonna succeed. This place... It has a mind of its own.
[So sitting and waiting might be the only viable options.]
