Summary: Gregory is not good at finding valuables and Greg is not a good judge of character. (I'll match tag style, btw!)
The Story:

😠Real Side😠

Gregory doesn't know what a malarkey is, but he knows the Queen said they could go over to the real side, so he's gonna do it! Because the mirror side is BORING! And all he has to do is find something his dumbo real likes and bring it back, right?

EASY.

Except when Gregory goes over, he realizes that all the things are things Greg likes! Or he wouldn't have the things! UGH, GOBBAMIT! It doesn't take long for the chaos that engulfs Greg's room to leak into the hallway is Gregory grabs something, stares at it, then throws it away because it's clearly not good enough.

UGH AND THIS IS TAKING UP ALL HIS REAL SIDE TIME TOO!!!!!

Anyone who happens by will discover a mess and likely hear the tantrum from quite a few rooms away.

🔍Mirror Side🔎

It maybe takes a little bit before Greg realizes he's someplace else. Like, he's pretty sure there was...more outside before? And also it didn't look like Gunsmoke. Hmmm.

A mystery!

Greg's on top of this one. He gets a magnifying glass from a closet and is just. Staring at everything through it. Supposedly this will help at some point. When he's not busy giving himself a headache, he's eating donuts like a good coptective, and also maybe he's looking for Wirt? Wirt gets lost a lot, after all.

And what better way to find Wirt than to interrogate random passersby?

"CITIZEN! Have you seen a teenager in a big red hat?"

Greg awaits your answer, staring out of his great, big, magnified eye.

Greg looks down at himself and gives a squeaky cry. It worked! It did!

"I need a mirror!" He has to see himself right away. He hurries down the hall to the nearest hall mirror and starts hopping up and down so he can see his whole outfit in it.

"This!" Hup! "Is!" Hup! "So!" Hup! "Cool!"

If the Queen finds out, Newton is probably in a lot of trouble. Yet it is his amusement he's considering, and to a degree he sees the boy as a new creature to assist and toy with.

So he follows after him, laughing at the way he's working to see himself. "Definitely what is needed if you're searching for someone, and much more in keeping with my time as well," he says, liking it much better.

His time? Greg stops hopping and turns to look at the guy.

"Oh, do you need to go? I'm sorry if I made you late!"

That's the time-keeping he meant, right?

Newton stares at him for a long time before chuckling. "No, I meant what I knew before the Queen. My world and the year it was, people dressed differently than most do now. Much more dapper, as you look now," he says, definitely making it sound like a compliment.

"What's your name?" He's curious to find his mirror self later, if nothing else.

"Greg!" Whoops, he forgot to say that. "What's yours?"

If he said already, Greg got distracted by the cool outfit. The dapper outfit.

Newton chuckles, not even sure what to make of the child. He's seen adults fairly cower on this side of the mirror and he acts as if he's walking in his backyard.

"Newton. I admit, I've not noticed a child on this side of the mirror. I may have to seek him out when you return to where you belong."

"Oh yeah? There's not a lot of kids here. Not even enough for a class in school."

Not that he wants to go to school, but still.

"Ooh! That's another mystery I can investigate! The mystery of Where Did All The Kids Go?"

He giggles with excitement and turns to run off and begin his epic quest, only to stop a few steps away when he realizes he is being very rude.

"Thank you for the magic clothes! I'll take good care of them! But I gotta go do detective stuff now! Bye!"

And he takes off, running so fast the clues couldn't get away if they tried.

"Are they neglecting your studies? How dreadful. There must be things you want to learn," he notes, wondering just how much he might pass onto the boy. Especially if it won't help on the other side of the mirror.

"You should. Shouldn't there be more children than there are? And how many of them have a companion over here. I would assume you do if you're here now. Unless you chose to come over here."

He's never thought about if there's some from the other side without a self on this side. Now Newton is fairly curious.

Chuckling and giving a wave as the boy leaves, smirking as he considers what other trouble he might get into before it's learned he isn't playing by the Queen's rules.
