[ Given that Steven's felt the need to split his time between the Real Side and the Mirror Side, not to mention having another task that he needed to carry out for the Queen, it's taken some time to track down the traitors. They'd also been smart enough to stay scattered rather than grouping together.

In retrospect, it shouldn't surprise Steven that one of them has decided to hide out in the woods. The Mirror Side doesn't offer them nearly as much space, after all, and the forest is difficult to navigate. If you don't want to be found, well, it makes the job of someone like him very hard.

But he's had Chronos' scent for days now and he's finally got eyes on him.

In this case, where he absolutely does not want to fail, Steven isn't going to take any chances. So he's brought a handgun with him, something long-range to help pin his target down. When the time is right, he moves from behind the cover of a large tree trunk and points the muzzle of his gun right at Chronos' head. There's still a good twenty feet between them, but Steven knows he can close that gap quickly. ]

Enough hiding.

[ Steven's tone is cold, his eyes colder. He takes another step toward Chronos. ]

The Queen wants you back. You'd be smart to come willingly.

[ If not, Steven will make him regret it, or someone will. Most likely the Queen Herself. ]

Who says I'm hiding?

[He's seen this coming, he knows what's on it's way and honestly, he's not shocked that it's come to this. The Queen sent her loyal hunting dogs out to catch the traitors and now he was going to have to find a way to get himself back without dying or losing all of his dignity. An easy defeat was not an option.

Chronos turns slowly and looks at Steve, he doesn't seem overly bothered by the gun. It doesn't worry him, he's not afraid. He knows he can handle it.]

This is your one chance. Don't be an idiot and walk away now.

Not sure what else you'd be doing out here.

[ Steven hasn't spent much time in this forest (only the time that it had taken to find Chronos, essentially), but he's seen enough information circulated around about the dangers that it offers. It's a confusing place, purposefully set up to get people lost and turned around, and if someone manages to venture out far enough, they'll lose their life for it.

Would that apply to one of them, too? Are Mirrors affected the same way as the Real Things by the limits of Wonderland and the punishments it doles out?

That's neither here nor there. Chronos acts like Rogers is the one in danger here, and while Steven doesn't intend to underestimate him, he isn't going to back down because of some weak threat.

He starts to walk toward Chronos, gun still trained on him. ] What do you hope to accomplish here?

I've already accomplished what I hoped to accomplish. Mostly now I'm hoping to get a little more out of things. When you're this far in, you may as well dig deeper.

[The Queen was pissed.

No matter how he looked at it, the Queen was going to get him for this and he'd be lucky to survive. He'd come this far already, why surrender? He trained his fun in return, a faint hum as the cold gun powered up, a blue light radiating from it's core.]

Don't you want to be more than a loyal dog for a Queen who doesn't even give one shit about you? Are you really going to risk yourself for her.

[ Dig deeper for what, Steven has to wonder. For an answer to all of life's questions? For an explanation for their existence? That's already been explained. They're here to serve the Queen.

It must be difficult, to not want to follow that directive. To be at a complete loss for your own purpose. Maybe that's why Chronos is acting out. There's a malfunction in him, something that the Queen will undoubtedly have to fix.

Rogers' attention shifts to the strange gun that Chronos is holding. It looks like it could do a lot of damage, and the fact that it isn't a traditional weapon means Steven will need to be careful.

When his loyalties are questioned, though, it's difficult to do that. His gaze sharpens. ]

Of course I am. That's what I'm meant to do, what we're all meant to do. If you can't understand that, then you're too far gone for me to try and explain.

[ All Steven can really do is drag Chronos back for the Queen to deal with Herself. Expression grim, he begins to advance toward him, still keeping a careful eye on the gun. ]
