Summary: It’s Mettaton’s One Year Anniversary Concert! Come on in and celebrate with him!
The Story:

It’s been a strange year for Wonderland’s favorite celebrity. He’s made friends and enemies, he’s seen things both strange and hauntingly beautiful and he’s had many laughs to fill his time. He never imagined he’d be here for an entire year but it seems his contract with this place isn’t expiring anytime soon.

So what better way to celebrate an anniversary than with a performance?

During the day on May 31st posters pop up all over the mansion, on pillars and walls and light fixtures and also some rose bushes in the gardens because of course. They all have one thing in common: beautiful gold typography advertising-

MTT’S GRAND ONE YEAR WONDERLAND ANNIVERSARY! COME ONE, COME ALL, TO ANOTHER SPECTACULAR MTT-BRAND CONCERT!

CELEBRATE A FANTASTIC YEAR WITH YOURS TRULY! DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY WITH QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT! TAKE A BREAK FROM THE MUNDANE TO SPEND A NIGHT SURROUNDED BY GLAMOUR! PARTY WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND GET AWAY FROM IT ALL!

FOOD AND DRINK WILL BE PROVIDED, AS ALWAYS! PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND SPECIES ARE WELCOME!

[Of course Dorian isn't going to miss out on this! The last concert was wonderful (In spite of the whole sudden-vampire-and-werewolf issue) so why not visit this one as well?]

[As usual, his attire is a bit outdated, but he's starting to add his own flair to the Victorian garments. Not that fashion ever stopped him from interacting with the singing robot.]

Bravo, my friend, bravo! I told you celebrating was a good idea.

[Maybe it's because he's gotten to know the man better, or perhaps his own tastes have been changing, but as of late Dorian's fashions have grown in how handsome and charming they are. Mettaton looks over at Dorian's words and beams.]

Dorian, dear, you came! I'm so glad. You were absolutely right; this night has made me feel better than I have in ages!

Of course I have! The last spectacle was marvelous, given the circumstances.

[Ah, good. Influence is good for personal growth, right?]

Ah, I can tell!

[Mettaton chuckles a bit]

Oh yes. This concert needed to be a big blow out and I know I achieved that tonight.

[Between the music and dance routines and costumes and praise from his mirror, tonight has been an overall success.]

I'm glad you dressed for the occasion and I must say, you look splendid darling!

[It's a shame Dorian knows nothing of the mirror.]

Why, thank you! I must admit, your costumes did not dissapoint either.

[Mettaton lets out a loud and boastful laugh, striking a pose as he does.]

But of course! All entertainers must be able to dress to impress! If not, who are they, really? I would practically die on stage if I ever performed with a wardrobe that was anything less than stunning.

[A bit melodramatic, but that's our favorite robotic star!]

[Ah, yes. Entertaining as always!]

[Dorian is very amused.]

Oh, that would be an unfortunate way to perish! Dying of shame in front of a whole audience... I pray Wonderland doesn't try to make that an event!

[Mettaton grimaces a bit at the thought.]

Ugh, knowing Wonderland, it would try. We haven't had an event in quite awhile though! Other than the Queen of Hearts sending her mirrors over, of course. How were you during that, by the way? Were you all right?

[Mettaton was, more or less, perfectly ok. Having such a strong friendship with his mirror came in handy in keeping him safe.]

[Dorian pouts.]

Oh, if only I was! Thanks to my horrid excuse for a mirror, I spent a good portion of the week locked in his room!

[So yeah, Dorian's Mirror hates his real's guts for some strange reason.]

Locked in his room?

[Oh boy, that is a loaded sentence!]

How did that happen??? Why did he do it? I'm glad you're all right now, Dorian, but how awful!

[It occurs to him that he's never seen or heard of Dorian's mirror. What was he like? What strange thing did the Queen twist into being from Dorian's pretty face?]

[Dorian grimaces at the sudden barrage of questions.]

I'd rather not talk too much of the incident right now. It's a bit of a sore subject... Perhaps I shouldn't have brought it up.

[Ironically, the Queen didn't have to get too creative with Dorian's Mirror...]

[Not that he'd admit anything now.]

Are you sure?

[Mettaton looks so concerned, taking a step closer to the other man and searching his face.]

If you need to talk about it, Dorian, I'm here. All right?

[There's a small pit of disappointment and a small dose of frustration that he won't speak but... once again, Dorian does his work for him. Keep it shallow, keep it light. He's wrong for wanting to understand his friend on any deeper level. He forgets that too often.]

Oh, yes... For now.

[He seems slightly unsure of himself. Should he say anything?]

... All right. I'll surely keep you in mind.

[It's not a bad thing, to dig deeper than he allows himself to. But what if they get in too deep? What if they see all the shadows of his soul? Would they still be friends then?]

[Dorian looks unsure, Mettaton feels unsure- this whole situation feels a little awkward. They come close to crossing some unspoken line and while the uncertainly is a familiar feeling in a way it still paints the scene in a bewildering light.]

Well. Ah. Good. I care about you, Dorian. I want to make sure you're safe.

[Another awkward admission but it's one that needs saying. He thinks. Or perhaps not.]

... You do?

[Is that even a good thing anymore? It seemed that everyone who ever cared about him ended up dying, or worse had their reputation irrevocably damaged.]

[While he had nobody else to blame for that, Dorian secretly wondered if he ought to try forming connections again. After all, this wasn't the Polite Society he's so used to manipulating. None of the strange inhabitants would bat an eye if they knew of it- especially with Victor gone. And yet...]

... Thank you.

[There's something happening here. Something on Dorian's face that shows a little uncertainty. Mettaton feels it in kind.]
