Summary: It’s Mettaton’s One Year Anniversary Concert! Come on in and celebrate with him!
The Story:

It’s been a strange year for Wonderland’s favorite celebrity. He’s made friends and enemies, he’s seen things both strange and hauntingly beautiful and he’s had many laughs to fill his time. He never imagined he’d be here for an entire year but it seems his contract with this place isn’t expiring anytime soon.

So what better way to celebrate an anniversary than with a performance?

During the day on May 31st posters pop up all over the mansion, on pillars and walls and light fixtures and also some rose bushes in the gardens because of course. They all have one thing in common: beautiful gold typography advertising-

MTT’S GRAND ONE YEAR WONDERLAND ANNIVERSARY! COME ONE, COME ALL, TO ANOTHER SPECTACULAR MTT-BRAND CONCERT!

CELEBRATE A FANTASTIC YEAR WITH YOURS TRULY! DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY WITH QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT! TAKE A BREAK FROM THE MUNDANE TO SPEND A NIGHT SURROUNDED BY GLAMOUR! PARTY WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND GET AWAY FROM IT ALL!

FOOD AND DRINK WILL BE PROVIDED, AS ALWAYS! PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND SPECIES ARE WELCOME!

[While she hasn't had the chance to meet him, Sayaka's heard about Mettaton from both Mikan and Alphys. Ever since she's learned about Mettaton, she has always wanted to meet him.

Throughout the entire concert, Sayaka watched him in complete and total awe by his performance skills. It was one of the most fun and entertaining concerts she's ever seen. Being a performer herself, it also gave her inspiration. The confidence he had in himself to perform alone on stage was motivational.

When it's all over, she decided to wait around to congratulate him on a job well done. She made it her personal mission to talk to him and now was finally a great opportunity to strike up a conversation with a fellow idol. As she was in the middle of helping out with the cleaning, she happens to spot him and she immediately runs up to him.]

That was lovely! Your whole performance was simply breath taking and I could not stop watching. I'm impressed with both your singing and dancing skills. The way you hit all those notes on key was fabulous.

[Wonderland feels surprisingly large for consisting of only a mansion, a beach, a forest, some gardens, and a lake, but all the same it makes sense for Mettaton not to recognize who is running up to him after the concert is over. He had noticed that she was helping clean up which is always deeply appreciated and she reaches him he smiles warmly.]

Thank you so much, dear! Practice makes perfect, as they say, and I have been practicing quite a bit.

[It's been a fun way to while away the hours. He looks at her curiously. There's something about her phrasing that pings her as no ordinary fan.]

You seem to have quite a knowledge of this sort of thing yourself! Do you have an interest in performance?

[Just from that simple statement alone, Sayaka was already starting to admire him. She already knew it from his show, but she could already tell that he was a true performer who would always do his best in every concert.]

You are so welcome! [The smile on her face grows wider, already feeling like she's met a kindred spirit.] Words spoken by an excellent performer! There's no such thing as too much practice. I can tell by your show that you have practiced a lot.

[At his question, she only continued to feel even more impressed with him.]

Hehe, you've guessed it! I do! I love singing and dancing, myself. Back home, I was part of an idol group. So when I heard about your concert, I just had to see it in person.

[Plenty of people in the past have told him that he's great at what he does. There have been numerous times when fans or friends have expressed their admiration of him and he's lapped it up happily; but hearing these kinds of praises from a fellow performer, someone who intimately understands the stage, is a different level of validating. Mettaton feels his soul swell a little in delight.]

You're an idol? Oh gracious darling, this is high praise coming from someone as talented as you!

[Alphys had been obsessed with anime and Mettaton had always had a rather neutral to a lowlevel dislike for it. But the animes that he had always found interesting where ones about idols and their performances. The magazines he would collect from the surface only added to that admiration.]

What was the name of your group? What were your favorite songs?

[He laughs a little, slightly embarrassed.]

I'm getting far too ahead of myself. You know who I am, but I don't know who you are, and that is a crime! What is your name?

You are too sweet! I wish I had more courage to perform by myself like you, though. I'm so used to performing with my group.

[The way he presented himself on stage with confidence and all by himself was something that she greatly admired. It was something that she knew she had to learn for herself, eventually. They were just a few words into this conversation but she was already liking him a lot. She could feel her admiration growing with each passing comment.]

This is a little embarrassing to admit, but... [There's a tiny bit of pink forming on her cheeks.] Our group never had a name but my favorite songs were Monochrome Answer and Ensemble of Wishes!

[She joins in on the laughing and gives him a thumbs up. It was so exciting to talk to another performer that she completely forgot to introduce herself.]

You are perfectly fine! My name is Sayaka Maizono! It's such a pleasure to finally meet you in person. I've heard about you from a few others and I've been dying to meet you.

Oh I do hope you get there one day; I can assure you that having sole command of a stage is such a wonderful feeling. Though I have mostly been a solo performer my entire career and having a co-star for the first time was one of the best times I've had performing in years.

[He smiles, thinking fondly of Frisk. Their dance together as the entire Underground watched and cheered had been unknowingly one of the best days of his life.]

You never had a name? Goodness, were you a new group or did you just have trouble finding the right one?

[His tone is slightly teasing but still kind and absolutely excited.]

Do you happen to have a copy of your music with you? I would love to hear it sometime!

[He knows the chances of that are slim, but who knows! Wonderland is full of surprises.]

It is so good to meet you, Sayaka! I must admit, I am delighted to hear that you've heard of me! Who has mentioned me?

[He's curious, so sue him.]

When you put it like that... it does sound fun. I bet it's a whole new level of experience being in command of the stage. [At the mention of his co-star, Sayaka's eyes start to light up. Hearing about his stories on stage was so exciting.] That's amazing! It's so much fun when you have a co-star on stage with you. Something about performing with another person, especially a friend just brings so much joy.

Well, I'd say it's a bit of both! We've been around each other for so long that we never took the time to think of a good name. We're going to have to fix that as soon as I get home!

[She starts to laugh and winks at him.]

Sadly I don't! But I'll be more than happy to sing for you one day.

[It wasn't going to be the same without her group and she was still nervous about that singing by herself, but she wanted to try it for Mettaton.]

Alphys-san did! Also Mi... [She's getting ready to say Mikan as well, but she quickly stops, remembering that her friend asked her not to mention her to Mettaton. Which... come to think of it, she was still curious about that. Okay! She needed to somehow change the subject before she slipped again.] I heard that you made this stage. It's wonderful! I'm thrilled that Wonderland has a place like this.

When all the lights are on you, the audience is cheering and the music starts... it's exhilarating. You drive the force of motion on stage and you know that nothing exactly like this will happen again.

[It's a feeling he's been chasing since he was little and to have it in his grasp is a gift he'll never squander.]

I had never known how wonderful it was until it happened. It's why I started a band back home before coming here; Having friends and fellow artists on the stage brings an energy that is indescribable!

[He laughs with her; this is one of the best conversations he's had in awhile.]

Sometimes things are perfect as they are and you don't need a name. But one day if you all do have one, I'm sure it will be beautiful all lit up on stage!

[Mettaton, at the mention of Sayaka singing for him one day, practically lights up like a Christmas tree. Someone performing for him???? He's never thought of that before but now the idea is lovely.]

Oh please do! I'd love to hear you and what you do!

[He is not surprised at all that Alphys mentioned him, nor that she talked to Sayaka. But she cuts herself off before mentioning someone else and it's a bit of a surprise. Mi who? If he knew of Sayaka's connection to Mikan and their school he'd know who in an instant but for now he's a bit stumped.

She moves on pretty quickly however, a swift recovery, and Mettaton feels no need to press the matter. Especially since she's complimenting something he made.]

I did! It took me awhile to get this stage and room exactly as I wanted, but it was all worth it in the end! Wonderland was more than accommodating in setting it all up. Now, I may have built it, but it's open to anyone who wants to use it to share their talents with the world. Especially you, sweetheart.

[Maybe one day he will be the one in the audience with her onstage singing her heart out? He really, really hopes that happens.]

[This was such an amazing conversation. Sayaka was filled with so much joy when talking to Mettaton. Not only as a fellow performer but also just as two strangers meeting up for the first time. There was a very charismatic aura around him that made her instantly like him. Maybe it was his naturally charming nature.]

You had a band back home?! If you don't mind me asking. What was the name of your band? That is very true, though! When you sing with your friends, it's an incredible feeling and it really does bring out a whole new level of energy on stage.

[In a lot of ways, he reminded her of herself in chasing his dream. It made her respect him even more and how hard he must have worked to achieve what he was able to do now.]

Why, thank you! Hearing that is very inspirational. I might even take some time to brainstorm some names here and when I think of something, you will be the first to know!

[On the inside, she's secretly berating herself for almost slipping up with Mikan's name. It wouldn't have surprised her at all if he noticed, even if she wasn't sure that he would have picked up on it being Mikan.

Oh good. He didn't press on the subject. Now she's mentally sighing in relief. Whew. She would have felt extremely bad if she gave it away so easily, especially since she was curious about the nature of their relationship.]

Good things come to those who work hard and put all of their effort into things! Just from looking at this stage, I can tell that you worked super hard on it. It's one of the most beautiful stages I've ever seen. [It could definitely give some of the Japanese arenas back home a run for their money.]

You are a sweetheart yourself! Thank you so much for the kind offer. If it's all right, I might just have to take you up on that! [With another playful giggle, she winks at him.] Singing a song in front of you will be one of the greatest honors ever. I look forward to the day I'll be able to sing my heart out to you!

[Now it was Mettaton's time to laugh though it is a bit sheepish in nature, which is an unusual feeling for him.]

We didn't have much of a name other than using my own. We were coasting on the MTT Brand.

[He says, as if his gigantic ego wasn't the deciding factor in how the band presented itself. And as if he didn't force one of his "bandmates" to be a walking set piece rather than perform.]

Gracious, Sayaka, you certainly know how to flatter a man! It was all having a clear vision and never taking no for an answer.

[Meaning whenever Wonderland got what he wanted wrong he'd march right back out and in again until it gave him exactly what he wanted. He thinks, perhaps, if this world is indeed alive, that it has learned fascinating new terms for architecture thanks to Mettaton here.]

I look forward to it too, darling! I hope Wonderland doesn't cause too much trouble in the meantime. I don't know how much you know about events but those are mostly the reason I haven't performed as much as I want to.

[It grates on him, but after a year of shenanigans he's come to accept it as a part of life.]

The MTT band... [She repeats that name to herself, with a little hint of glee in her tone.] Even if it's your name, it's really really catchy! And easy to remember, too.

[While she didn't know too much about band names since she never thought of one for her own group. Simple was the best!]

Well, you could say that I've picked up my flattery skills after performing for so long.

[She's quiet before she immediately erupts into a giggling fit.]

Just kidding! You are more than deserving of all the praise in the world. I really like your attitude and how you are so willing to chase your dreams like that.

[Listening to him talk just made her feel even more inspired and impressed with him. ]

Ah, yes! I've been through a couple of the events, myself. It's truly a shame that they happen, but I can understand why they would be a factor in not being able to perform as much. It's really disorientating when they do and I know that's why I haven't been able to do as much as I wanted to as well.

[While she can't say that she's gotten used to the events. It's a slow process, but she was at the beginning stages of being able to accept them. Even if most of them were pretty terrifying.]

[She is a lot more forgiving of his ego than he thought she would be and it is a pleasant surprise.]

That's what I thought too. I didn't want anything complicated since not only were we breaking out into the world as a band but also breaking out into the world as Monsters in general so it was important to have an easy to remember name.

[Oh, that's it, he loves her, she is Great and he is extremely happy to be here.]

What events have you been through? Or, I suppose I should ask, how long have you been here?

[He's gone through a year's worth of events now, some good, some bad, and he's curious as to what Sayaka has seen.]

Oh! So, is your kind rare from the world that you come from? Also, I'm sorry if I sound rude in asking this but... are you a robot?

[That was a bit of a shock to learn about but it made her all the more intrigued about the world that he came from. Her curiousity was also piqued with the mention of his bandmates. If they were also 'monsters' what kind of beings were they?]

Let's see, the first one I was in was the one in the desert and the pyramid! I have also been through the mansion flooding, the laboratory event where we became children, the space city and the event with all the tears! So... [she pauses, counting the number of months in her head.] I've been here for sixth months, now.

[She's only been here for six months but now that she's shuffled through all of the events in her mind, it was a whole lot more than what she originally thought.]

You've been here a year, right? Do you have any events that you liked?

It's not rude at all! I am a robot, and proud of it!

[It's no joke; one of the first things he says about himself when introducing himself is some mention of his status as a robot and a monster. As well as being a celebrity, of course.]

Six months? That's quite awhile! And I'm only meeting you now... what a pity!

[He shakes his head at himself. He needs to pay attention to the Network more in the future.]

Oh... yes, I have a few that I liked. This one event where we all were sent to a magical school was a sweet event. The Citadel was also another favorite of mine. There have been so many events, it's hard to remember them all.

[That's not the complete truth. Sometimes he purposely tries to forget some of the more terrible things that have happened here because of this place.]

[She lets out a tiny sigh of relief at how positive he was. That definitely settles it, she adores everything about him and she's so happy that she got to meet him.]

I'm relieved to hear that! Your confidence is truly inspiring, Mettaton! You are definitely one of the coolest Robots ever.

Right? [She's laughing at that.] It's a shame that we just now met, but at least now we can make up for lost times!

[It really amazed her how vast Wonderland is. She's been here a good while and she still hasn't met everyone and it always felt like there were new things to explore.]

A magical school? That does sound really fun! Did you guys learn any spells or anything? Oh bet! You've been here for a year, so I can't begin to imagine the number of events you've done.

[She could understand that feeling. While she definitely hasn't been through as much events like Mettaton, there were definitely a few she was wishing she could forget.]

Why thank you! Though I am not the only robot here anymore! There are three-

[He stops himself, his smile falling a little. Oh. That's right. Legion is gone now...]

I mean, two other robots here in Wonderland that aren't me. They are Turning, who is a delightful bot themself and Wheatley who I haven't actually met yet.

[He needs to change that, he thinks. Turning is wonderful and after losing Legion so suddenly, perhaps he should get to know that other robot before they potentially disappear too.]

Wonderland will certainly give us plenty of time for that!

[So many people in Wonderland, so ~~little~~ much time.]

We learned lots of spells! I was a... fifth year? Maybe a sixth year? If I remember correctly. I had an entire magical thesis that I had been working on for years... it's quite amazing what this place will supply you in terms of memories when it finds fit to.

[She has really got to get out and meet the other residents. Sayaka swears that]

Oh! I hadn't realized there were other robots here. That's wonderful that Turning is another delightful robot. [She giggles.] Like yourself! I'm sure that Wheatley is just as pleasant too.

[Never in a million years would she have guessed that she would be charmed over by a robot! This made her experience at Wonderland even more delightful, there were so many nice people she would have never met back at her home world.]

Wow, that is so fun!! Out of all the worlds, that one must have been one of the most fun experiences. It sounds like you must have been very knowledgable in that world! With you working on a magical thesis and all. Right? The first event I was in was the desert one and it amazed me how it gave me memories of my past life. This world is truly powerful and each day, I wonder how it works.

[Mettaton would be making that same swear too but... he's got some extenuating circumstances holding him back.]

Oh yes! They're a different make and model than me; I think they called themselves a ROM? They're also smaller but then again, it's hard to be as tall as me.

[Seven feet tall including those heels, baby!

Mettaton grins proudly.]

I was a shining star in my class! Liked and admired by all, despite being in what was considered the unsavory house. It was very fun.

[Luckily that event stopped before our sweet Mettaton here could grow up into the villain he unwittingly laid the groundwork to be but that's why events are only 5 days long at max and not years.]

Ah yes, Wonderland has a certain fondness for making past lives for us residents. I feel like I have lived for hundreds of years at this point with everything I "remember".

A ROM, huh? To be honest, I'm not really familiar with robotic technology but from the name it sounds neat! [Now she's giggling at him.] I was fixing to say, I've never seen a robot as tall as you. You are one of the most technological advance creations I have ever seen.

[At that, she can't help but glance up from his heels to the top of his head. Wow! He really was tall.]

The unsavory class? That's a shame you got place there, but it's marvelous that you made do with it and turned yourself into a shining star!

[In her eyes, Mettaton was beginning to look like the shiniest of all stars in the entire galaxy.]

Oh my goodness! It's a wonder that you are able to keep your memories straight. Thank you for the warning, though! Hopefully I can keep that in mind the next time Wonderland decides to give us another past life.

It does sound neat! I can't remember if they told me what it stands for but it must be interesting! And oh yes, I was created by the fabulous Dr. Alphys. She's such a talented roboticist; creating me got her the Royal Scientist position back home!

[There is so much pride in his voice as he describes her. She's his best friend and one of the smartest people he has ever known.]

Oh, I was completely proud of my place! Despite what others may have thought, Slytherin was a good and proud house. I was happy to be there. But thank you! I am always a shining star, no matter what reality Wonderland puts me in. It's fate.

[It's almost as if the Powers That Be, the ones beyond the world of Wonderland, deem it so.... hm.]

[Usually he's not so eager to help people he just met but Sayaka has utterly charmed him. What a vivacious young woman!]

Wow! Alphys-san is so amazing! I can totally see why she earned that position! She deserves it.

[Sayaka made a mental note to talk to Alphys more. The lass was super lovely to chat with and come to think of it, she still didn't know what she looked like. That was something she needed to fix soon!]

What an admirable attitude to have! I'm sure that your housemates were glad to have you with them. [Wow, he had such a way with words! The more she spoke to him, the more she found herself being charmed over by him.] And you are without a doubt, a shining star in my eyes as well.

[She hopes that maybe one day, she would get to see an event that was similiar to magical house one he was talking about! It would be fun to see what house she would get sorted in.]

R-Really?! [Don't mind her Mettaton, she's a little taken aback by his kindness but she's very flattered.] Thank you so much!! You are so kind. Please, let me do the same for you. If there's anything I can help you with, I will be more than happy to assist you!

[Mettaton nods vigorously. So she may have gotten the position with a tiny white lie. But she did build his body and he is an amazing work of art even if she didn't literally create an artificial SOUL but who is counting, right?]

Absolutely. She doesn't believe in herself sometimes but she deserves all of the accolades awarded to someone of her caliber.

[Goodness, she keeps complimenting him! His ego is absolutely growing to greater and greater proportions but his regard for her has grown as well.]

Words like those are music to my ears, my dear.

[Who knows! Most of the people it was related to are gone but there may be one person left in Wonderland whose memories could bring her back there.

He's not usually this kind but he feels the urge to be. It's probably a mixture of how wonderful it is to talk to her and how good he feels right now. It makes him want to be better than he's been before.]

That is good to know. I'm sure Wonderland will give us plenty of opportunity to look out for each other.

The more I hear about her, she sounds like a truly amazing person. I do hope that she learns to grow more confidence in herself, since she deserves it!

[Not only did Alphys help her out in feeling welcomed, she was certain that she's made plenty of people happy with all of her creations.]

Definitely! I know that I'll be on the look out for you.

[Talking to him made her feel good about herself and not only that, she was beginning to grow confidence. She could feel a slight spark igniting within her and she had the urge to sing, herself. He had an unmeasurable charming aura around him and she could imagine how good he must have made people felt after chatting with him.

He was without a doubt, a true idol. Someone who not only smiles, but makes other people smile. Sayaka couldn't stop smiling the whole time while speaking to him.

As much as she wanted to continue their conversation, she didn't want to take up too much of his time, she was certain he was busy.]

I hope I'm not taking too much of your time! I've had so much fun conversing with you that I pretty much lost track of time.
