Summary: It’s Mettaton’s One Year Anniversary Concert! Come on in and celebrate with him!
The Story:

It’s been a strange year for Wonderland’s favorite celebrity. He’s made friends and enemies, he’s seen things both strange and hauntingly beautiful and he’s had many laughs to fill his time. He never imagined he’d be here for an entire year but it seems his contract with this place isn’t expiring anytime soon.

So what better way to celebrate an anniversary than with a performance?

During the day on May 31st posters pop up all over the mansion, on pillars and walls and light fixtures and also some rose bushes in the gardens because of course. They all have one thing in common: beautiful gold typography advertising-

MTT’S GRAND ONE YEAR WONDERLAND ANNIVERSARY! COME ONE, COME ALL, TO ANOTHER SPECTACULAR MTT-BRAND CONCERT!

CELEBRATE A FANTASTIC YEAR WITH YOURS TRULY! DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY WITH QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT! TAKE A BREAK FROM THE MUNDANE TO SPEND A NIGHT SURROUNDED BY GLAMOUR! PARTY WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND GET AWAY FROM IT ALL!

FOOD AND DRINK WILL BE PROVIDED, AS ALWAYS! PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND SPECIES ARE WELCOME!

Once again, it's quite all right! Things here are a lot more lax than they are at home.

[Where poor, sweet Angus may have run afoul of some security guards if he had tried this sort of thing there. Luckily Mettaton doesn't mind all that much beyond being interrupted in his conversation.

Speaking of, Angus is still asking questions and Mettaton needs to make sure he's convincing in his lie. For fun and profit, the Powers That Be roll a d20 to see what he would get with his deception. He got a 20, lucky duck! The lie rolls off his tongue easily.]

It's less a script and more of a written speech. I want to have some outline for my return to the stage when this intermission is over! Plus something to say when the concert is done.

[No sound comes from the covered object behind Mettaton, which is as tall as him and wide enough to accommodate his shoulders if he ever were to, say, walk through it, but if sound could emerge, dark chuckling would be heard, sitting heavily on any ears nearby.]

Now, darling, tell me- how are you liking the concert so far?

[The explanation does come easily. And it seems to make sense, too. Angus simply nods. Something about it still bothers him -- the covering of the person-sized object behind him, for one -- but Angus lets it slide for now. A detective knows when to listen to his paranoia, and, similarly, when to stop prodding at people. It's never any good to annoy someone when you're trying to figure them out.]

Oh--! The concert! I wanted to tell you, it's, it's the best concert I've ever been to! I've never seen anything like it! The music is so... loud and fast and, and it makes you want to dance, even if you don't really know how to dance, but I'm definitely tapping my feet, sir! It's, it's incredible! Just incredible!

[And the distraction of the concert itself is enough to pull Angus' attention away from any suspicion. There are practically stars in his eyes.]

Are all your concerts really like this?? It's no wonder you're a celebrity, sir, you're so talented!! I wish I could show my friend Taako, he'd really love your performance!!

[There is something about the performance itself that reminds him of Taako in general, and not just because Taako also happens to be a former celebrity. It's just the kind of thing that Taako would really like. It feels a little bittersweet, when Angus remembers he's not here, and the situation in which he left him.]

[Ohhh, that's the kind of reaction Mettaton loves!]

I'm so glad you think so, darling! What kind of concerts have you been to in the past?

[He needs to know this so he can crush any and all competition.]

Oh yes, they're all big bombastic celebrations of music and life and, most importantly, me! Thank you so much, dear. Maybe one day this Taako friend of course will come here and be able to see!

[He hopes, for both this Taako and Angus's sake, that this does not in fact happen.]

Um, piano recitals, orchestras... Oh, operas... [He counts off on his fingers.] Not so many, but my parents brought me along with them sometimes. I've never gone to a concert on my own before. Not until now, sir.

[He doesn't look too excited remembering his past concert experiences. He's never been too keen on being brought places by his parents. They've been very... sober experiences. A lot of staying quiet so they look good.

But when Taako is the topic of conversation, Angus visibly brightens.]

I'd love it if he were here! He's a celebrity, too! I bet you'd really like him! He's the funniest person I know!

Ohhh, well those sound lovely in their own ways but also a bit stifling. My concerts invite a good bit of audience interaction with me!

[Dancing, chanting, singing along- he loves the energy the crowd gives him.]

Is he now? What is he famous for?

[Mettaton is always curious about other celebrities. Especially if they may step on his toes.]

Yes! I didn't... like them very much.

[The outings seemed less about the fun of it and more about rubbing elbows for his parents. The decision of whether to bring Angus along or not largely had nothing to do with Angus himself, although he has on occasion lost the privilege due to misbehaving in some way or another. It was more strategic than that, really.

And Angus, perceptive as he's always been, could pick up on that.]

He's a famous celebrity chef! Um, he hasn't done a lot of cooking and stuff like that in a while, though. But I had a macaron he made once and it's one of the best things I've ever eaten.

[Mettaton hears the halting nature to that statement. It holds a lot more to it than the robot currently knows and he wonders for a moment what was really going on with all of that. He doesn't think that this is the time to ask but it does make him slightly huffy on Angus's behalf. He's only talked to him twice now but he's a good kid.]

Well, you're always welcome to my concerts. Completely of your own choice, whenever you want.

[If Mettaton had even an inkling of how Angus's parents are, he'd probably go on another one of his "parents SUCK" rants.]

Ohhh, if he ever comes here I'll be sure to ask to try something he's made!

[Yup, this robotic man is talking about eating food like it's not some kind of biological impossibility.]

Really? And you'll hold a concert right then and there, whenever??

[It's hard to tell whether Angus is playing up the clueless kid thing or if he really is that way despite his genius. The truth may never come out.

(He really is that way.)]

I hope he-- Wait, Mr. Mettaton, you're a robot! I don't think you have a robotic stomach! ...Do you?

[You know what, that is adorable that he thinks this, and Mettaton is such an attention hog that yeah. Yeah if Angus wants him to, he'll host a mini-concert right then and there, just for him. So long as he's lauded with applause, of course.]

Absolutely!

[The surprise at his state of digestion was expected and Mettaton grins and fluffs the hair out of his face.]

Mmm, not a stomach in the sense you do, darling, but I can eat food! I have a sense of taste and can consume food.

[All the food gets dropped into a goddamn bin that he empties out later in a complete waste of resources unless it is monster food but it's fine, really.]

[Don't tell Taako, but Mettaton has very suddenly found himself at the top of Angus' favorite people list.]

That's! So nice! You're so nice and, and good, Mr. Mettaton!

[Also, the food thing? Cool as fuck. Move over Taako, there's a robo pop star in town and his name's New Friend.]

Um, can I have your autograph! Sir! Please!

[Oh yes, keep throwing those compliments at him, he loves it.]

Oh absolutely, Angus!

[He reaches to his side, opening up a small compartment and pulling out a pad of sparkling pink paper and a golden pen. It's here for just such an occasion as this! He clicks the pen with a flourish and quickly scrawls out a message:

To my favorite detective! May your intellect always be keen and the mysteries always interesting!

He finishes it with a big looping script of his name and hands it to Angus.]

Keep good track of that! It's worth quite a bit.

[Angus takes the autograph and gazes at it with excitement in his eyes.]

Wow, I'm rich! I mean, my life is enriched! I'm the happiest boy in Wonderland!
