(open) snow comes and falls and goes
Who: Stefan Salvatore and you!
Where: The ski lodge
When: 6/02-6/04
Rating: PG, probably
Summary: A general catch-all for the shenanigans Stefan will get up to, whether it's curling up with his journals or hitting the slopes.
The Story:
a) the lodge
[ Now this was more like it. Stefan gets a little too distracted by the roar of the fireplace and that sweet hot cocoa. He'll make himself comfortable in the common room, curling up under a thick red blanket as he scrawls down notes in his journal. He'll spend a fair bit of time in the room he shares with Akechi, too, and people are more than allowed to wander in.
Or maybe it's late, and instead of staying in his room with Akechi, he's sitting by one of the windows and lightly tracing shapes on the glass before wiping them away. He hasn't seen snow in a long time, and at this hour, it feels almost mystical. ]
b) the slopes
[ Skiing is a lot more fun than he remembered. The windchill doesn't even bother him anymore as he gears up for yet another run on those slopes - and while he's comfortable on the bunny slopes, he's equally comfortable on the blue ones too.
Unfortunately, that ski lift isn't his friend, and as he's riding it alone, it just so happens to get stuck. One minute turns to five and five turns to turn and he isn't getting desperate, but it sure feels awkward.
Just when he decides to jump down, he catches sight of someone nearby and so, he calls out – ] Hey! Can you get maintenance for me?
[ Or, you know, steer clear in the event he has to get himself out. ]
c) wildcard
[ Want to do something that I haven't written down? Take this as a free card for anything and everything and lets get the ball rolling. ]

A
He was glad to see Stefan though was still awake too.]
That one's nice.
[Whatever shape Stefan was drawing on the window, Minato pointed to one that looked like a star of some sort. Or like a snowflake.]
no subject
[ Stefan scooted to the side, motioning for Minato to take a seat beside him. At this hour, he's not focusing too much on what he draws. He's not an artist. Never has been, never will be. His writing is his main craft, and these lopsided, thick-lined snowflakes kind of prove it.
After a moment of deliberation, he wiped the rest of the window clean, leaving only the snowflakes to dance along the edges. ]
It was either this or read some more, and honestly, I didn't bring anything new with me.
no subject
What genre is your favorite?
[For as close as they were becoming, there were still a few details here and there that needed to be filled in. Minato didn't mind though, like slowing adding the shading or highlights on a painting to make it more complete.]
no subject
[ It hasn't been as obvious, since their friendship hadn't revolved around anything literary, but Stefan's never too far from a good novel. Now that he thinks about it, he doesn't know too much about Minato either. Now's as good of a time as any to change that. ]
If I had to narrow it down, modernism? You know, stuff like Gatsby and Waiting for Godot?
no subject
Mn, you have good taste. I need to read more.
[Most of the reading Minato had done was really in school and for school.]
no subject
[ He raises his eyebrows for a brief moment, pulling a leg up under him. True, most of Stefan's novels strays towards modernism and what's known as "literary fiction," but he will read anything and everything. ]
Just tell me what genre, and you'll have at least ten by the time we get back to the mansion.

B!
It's as he's walking that he hears someone call out and he looks up to the ski lift curiously. It takes him a moment of squinting but then he realizes he knows who it is up there.]
Stefan! Hello! Are you stuck?
no subject
[ He's not that high up, thankfully, but he knows it's a delicate situation. If he jumps down, he risks further attention to himself (and probably a few broken bones). If he stays where he is, well. He's a vampire stuck on a ski lift for who-knows-how-long.
All the same, he sets his skis aside so that he can stand on his own two feet, and not jostle this even more than he has to. ]
Hang on. I think I'm gonna go for it.
no subject
[Apparently Mettaton is slow on the uptake because when Stefan initially moves his skis out of the way and stands up, he has no idea what he is doing. It takes another moment but it finally clicks and he calls back up anxiously.]
Darling, do you think that is wise??? What if you get hurt?
[Human legs break really easily, right? Oh goodness.]
no subject
[ He takes a breath, gauging the height difference between the lift and the ground. On one hand, it would be a lot easier to see if anyone's actually manning the lift. On the other, Mettaton would be one of the few who could keep his secret.
(He thinks.)
Stefan wraps a hand around a bar, calling out, ] Unless you can get this running again, this'll be easier!
no subject
Now, Mettaton has many talents. Most of them center around the stage and all of the wonders involved in that sort of business. Alas, none of those talents give him the background knowledge you would need to fix a ski lift. Nor does he really know where it operates from anyway.]
I'm sorry, I don't think I could fix that.
[Stefan wraps his hand around a bar and Mettaton's panic returns.]
Still, though, I could, uh, I could find someone! Someone who could!
[He can't heal oh goodness he doesn't know how to heal more than like, a paper cut, he never put the time and effort into learning that kind of magic. Stefan is going to jump and break his legs and Mettaton is going to have to drag him back to the resort in pain and it is going to be awful.]
Or, uh, I could catch you??? Maybe???
[That might be the stupidest thing you have said yet, Mettaton.]

So when she sees a familiar face, she smiles softly and makes her way closer.]
The leisurely life seems to agree with you.

[ He scoots over so that she can sit beside him. If it were anyone else, he might've wiped the windows clean, but Freya knows (future) him. She can live with knowing that he's a terrible artist. ]
Far as I can tell, this is the closest we'll ever get to being on a high school field trip.
no subject
I wouldn't know enough about high school to know what that is.
[She didn't attend repeatedly the way Stefan did.]

it's hardly hoth, much more manageable than the frozen planet she had spent months on. it's not terribly difficult to walk from place to place and the children seem happy for it, throwing snowballs at one another, chasing each other around the grounds.
it's rather peaceful.
which is exactly the problem. everything she heard so far indicated that the events are anything but. she's still waiting for the other show to drop.
dressed in white and petite as she is, she's almost camouflaged in her surroundings. when someone calls, however, she looks up, arches an eyebrow. ]
What were you doing up there?
no subject
Heading to a ski slope? [ He's all bundled up, in a thick parka and ski goggles worn high across his forehead, and a pair of skis do indeed rest beside him. He's careful not to jostle them as he squints ahead at who should be operating it.
(He doesn't think anyone's there, which is a danger in and of itself, really.) ]
You've uh, you've never seen one of these before?
no subject
[ and, with a bit of a grin: ]
Doesn't seem all that trust-worthy. But I'll see what I can do. Would that console down there be the thing to look at?
[ you're lucky she's not without technological knowledge, stefan. ]
Try not to crash.
[ she instructs before she makes for the console. can't be harder than flying a spaceship. ]
wow i'm so sorry, this got buried ;;
[ He's putting his existence in her hands, and honestly? He could stand to be a little worried. This would be a rather unorthodox way to die.
But he nods, gesturing towards it. ]
I'll stay still. Promise!
[ Not like he can really do much else. ]
A! (hope I'm not too late)
So she’s bundled up in an over-sized hoodie and long sleeved shirt, as well as thick jeans and warm boots and a silly hat with a bobble on the top as she wanders the lodge. At least this event is relatively pleasant in comparison to others. Even if it IS cold.
But it’s no wonder that she’s not sleeping. Between the old memories and the new, sleep hasn’t been all that frequent.
She catches sight of Stefan, sitting by one of the windows and can’t help but smile as she makes her way towards him. Biting her lip, she breaks the late night silence.]
Mind if I join you?
never too late!! ♥
[ Stefan scoots over, reaching for one of the thick, comfy blankets and holding it carefully in his lap. Even with all of the warm winter clothing, this place can feel like an icebox. And he's been drinking extra coffee to keep his body temperature up and not arouse further suspicion.
Were it anyone else, he might've erased the squiggly, uneven snowflakes that he'd been drawing. They don't mean anything beyond boredom. Jesse, on the other hand, was becoming someone he trusted. Even the smallest snowflake was part of their shared universe. ]
Here, um - [ He holds out the blanket. ] It can get a little chilly over here.
♥ ♥ ♥
Thanks.
[Taking the blanket he’s offering her she curls up next to him, snuggling close before all but burrowing under the warm, cozy fabric. Once she re-emerges, properly bundled up, she smiles at him. She still hates the cold, but its better, now. She doesn't mind it quite so much.]
Can’t sleep?
no subject
I don't have to. [ Okay, that's a little bit of a lie, so he laughs: ] I mean, I can? And I probably will later, but I don't particularly need it.
What about you? I thought you'd be enjoying your winter wonderland.
no subject
She shakes her head a little, against him.] I don’t really like the cold. Too many bad memories.
