Who: Ryuji Sakamoto & Sayaka Maizono
Where: Entrance Hall then to the Pool
When: Backdated to August 25th
Rating: PG-13 for talks about murder and death
Summary: When a Vulgar boy and Idol girl have a serious chat, only for them to fall into a pool due to magical rift shenanigans (Thanks Wonderland!!)
The Story:
["Fuck this shit. I'm outta here."
Could that meeting have gone anymore wrong? Sayaka continues to replay the conversation that she had with Mondo in her head over and over again. No matter what she did, she knew that nothing would have made that encounter any less terrible because the problem was her.
Ever since that super awkward encounter with her classmate, she hasn't been her usual self. Just a few days before that, everything seemed to be going so well. The music festival was a success, she's been making new friends and she felt so incredibly happy! But then everything changed after that fateful meeting. She was less bubbly and more sullen. For the past few days, she's avoided trying to talk to anyone and has opted to put herself in isolation in her room.
It was better that she refrained from speaking to anyone, she didn't want to let any more people down.
As always, Wonderland seemed to have a different idea in store for her.
When she stepped out of her room to go get food from the kitchen, she somehow made her way to the library instead. At first she thought that maybe she was just crazy and lost her way. Then it got confirmed for her when she opened the door to the music room, only for her to end up in the entrance hall. This had be some kind of event.
She wanted to go outside and scream!!! However, she knew that if she tried leaving through the front door, she would probably end up in the ballroom or something.
Sayaka lets out a sigh and instead, leans her back against the wall with her eyes looking downcast towards the ground. Wonderland sure picked a great time to have this event.]

For crap's sake--
[His second try ends no better than his first. Skipped back to square one, Ryuji kicks a pillar out of frustration. Which he instantly regrets. Marble ain't taking shit from a human foot.
Hobbling around the pillar, he's wincing off the pain when he spots her.]
Hey!
no subject
Suddenly, she hears a very familiar voice that causes her to snap out of her trance. Slowly, she looks up and finds herself face to face with Ryuji.]
Huh...?
[The sight of him causes her eyes to grow wide from shock and she immediately stands up straight. Oh no, she has not been prepared to run into someone that she knew and was internally panicking. She attempts to greet him with her usual tone but it was a bit more muted than normal.]
Oh! Hello Sakamoto-kun. Did you get lost too?
no subject
Then she looks up--almost guiltily, it seems. Like a public figure caught doing something she's not supposed to: have a private moment.]
Hey.
[Again. More conversationally, less to get her attention this time. He leaves the pillar in peace, shifting his weight off the ball of his foot for the first few steps until he's sure his toes aren't about to yell bloody murder at him and make him wince.]
Yeah, I keep endin' up downstairs. I thought somethin' fishy was goin' on. [A second ago it'd had him on the verge of a Ryuji-level tantrum, but that doesn't seem as important anymore.] You okay?
no subject
[Wonderland and it's strange events know no bounds it seemed like. It seemed like this was just the beginning, so she was worried as to what would be awaiting them in the upcoming days. Despite her muted behavior, she was still glad to see that Ryuji was all right.... minus his foot.
She moves away from the wall she was leaning against and approaches him but then his question causes her to freeze up. It wasn't as if she made much of an effort to hide her sadness, but she was still internally sighing at herself for not doing a better job of hiding her emotions. Her eyes glance away in an attempt not to look directly at his face.]
Um, I'm.... okay.
[She felt terrible for lying like that but she didn't want to him burden him with her troubles. The last thing she wanted to do was be even more of a nuisance, she liked Ryuji too much for that. Even though she suggested that they get to know each other, she was becoming scared that he would hate her if he knew what was bothering her.]
no subject
[For now, the event fuckery he'd walked away from takes a backseat to what's in front of him: Sayaka, and the unconvincing halt to her words. He looks her over, finding her demeanor speaks a more accurate truth than what she's saying.]
You don't look okay.
[She still looks like her usual cute and good-looking self, make no mistake. But... distant? Sad? Burdened might be the closest to the mark.]
no subject
[As to what that event was, she was scared to know. Just as long as there were no more zombies, maybe it wouldn't be so bad... maybe. She's definitely had her fill of zombies.
Even if it shouldn't have surprised her, Ryuji did catch her off guard by calling her out on her demeanor. She brings her gaze back onto him, looking a cross between confused and worried.]
Y-Yeah, you're right. Sorry for not being honest. I...
[However, she quickly stops mid sentence. Would it be all right to tell him? A part of her wanted to let out her feelings but at the same time, she didn't want to bother Ryuji. Especially in regards to how dark state her home world was in. In response, she shakes her head.]
Don't worry about me, I don't want to be a burden on you.
no subject
Why's she saying sorry? She hasn't done anything to deserve an apology. He'd asked out of worry, not to catch her in a web of lies and guilt her with it. Gosh, it's like no person ever tried to cover up their feelings to keep someone from worrying before. Shame on you, Sayaka Maizono, for being the first to attempt such a feat of emotional duplicity. Jim Carrey a la Liar Liar would be proud.]
You don't gotta say if you don't wanna, you just look a little pale. Portals make you sick?
[The last part barely warrants a response, so dismissive is Ryuji of the idea of anyone being a burden--whether on himself or others. Whatever's going on with her isn't a burden. Ryuji's been a long-time believer that if someone's mood is low or they're down on their luck, they just need a little support until they're ready to go back to standing up straight on their own, is all.]
It's too late for that, I do worry. You offered to help me out back when I was new--well, that sorta stuff goes both ways.
no subject
[The frown on her lips begins to curve into a tiny smile. His concern brought her a sense of comfort. It reminded her of their first meeting via the network and the genuine kindess that he showed her. His presence alone was enough to make her happier.]
That's really kind of you to say, Sakamoto-kun. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.
[For a few seconds, she's quiet. If she had to be honest, she wanted to tell him. But she was so worried about scaring him away with the truth about herself and her home world. How would he react? What would he think of her? She would not have blamed him if he saw her in a different light and she would understand if he hated her because of it. Thinking about that made her scared.
But she had to do this. Ryuji was a good person and he deserved to know the awful truth about her.
Not only was her intuition telling her that she could trust him, her heart was telling her the same thing.]
Um, if it's really okay with you, then I... I don't mind telling you. I-It's... um [She sighs to herself as she keeps stammering and stumbling on her words.] It's about my home world, so would it be okay to talk in private about this?
no subject
On the down side, something was eating at her, more than just annoyance at Wonderland's hijinks. He briefly considers saying something into the silence--another attempt to probe around what's taken some of the animation out of her demeanor--but on the subject of delicacy, it feels like a time for a delicate touch. So he waits for her to set the pace and fill the pause once she's ready.]
All right...
[His reply is drawn out with the uncertainty of his acceptance. This sounds serious. He hasn't seen Sayaka struggle this much with her words, not even when he cornered her asking for a date.]
Okay, yeah, let's go.
[Completely forgetting for a second why he's down here in the first place. Jury's out if Wonderland's about to let them go anywhere.]
no subject
[There's no telling how many times she has told him 'thank you' in the span of this short conversation, but she was prepared to shower him with even more gratitude. It meant the world to her that he was willing to listen to her.
She was still scared of what he was going to say and what he would think of her, but there was no denying that she felt secure and safe around him.
Like Ryuji, she completely forgot the reason why she was down here in the first place. Since this was Wonderland, it wasn't going to be kind and simply allow her to take him to her room to talk. It had something else in mind for the two.
Once they step through the door, Sayaka could already feel the space and air around them feeling much more different. She doesn't have much time to react to that strange feeling because as soon as she attempts to take another step. She can't, there no floor and the only thing underneath her was water.
A loud scream was accompanied with a booming splashing sound. The only thing that she could feel was her whole body being submerged in the pool's chilly water.
She... did not see this coming.]
no subject
Talkin' things out when they're weighing you down can be, y'know, cathartic. [You can thank a pre-teen girl for teaching him that buzz word.] I'm happy to listen. Us captive people gotta take care of each other.
[He'd been about to say us Wonderlanders, but that isn't very true, is it? They're not from Wonderland. They don't belong in Wonderland. How can you really set down roots in a place that insists on being unknowable and uncontrollable?
Case in point: this goddamn game of musical portal chairs. They make it all the way to Sayaka's room without incident--and whoa, this is the first time he's been invited to her room before, this is kind of major!--leading him to think maybe, just maybe, they've managed to avoid these tears in space for the time being.
--Haha, just joking, this is still Wonderland. There's no escape.]
Uwah!
[As per the laws of nature, a buttered piece of toast lands butter side down, and Sakamoto Ryujis land face first. He lets out a rather unattractive noise as his feet meet air and he tumbles forward. The last thing he sees before his head hits the surface is the teal water of the pool rushing up to meet up.
Having been walking a little bit behind Sayaka as she led the way, he may have also landed partially on top of her, sorry.]
no subject
As she felt her body submerging into the water, she could feel something― or someone on top on her back. Since she also fell into the pool face first, she already knew that it was Ryuji that landed on top of her.
She was far from being a Super High School Level Swimmer so her movements were less than graceful, but she does manage to turn her body around to face him. Her hand grasps onto the front of his shirt and begins to gently pull them both up to the surface.
As she emerges out of the water, Sayaka is gasping for breath. To stay afloat, she continues to hold onto his arm. Once she's able to settle down from the shock, she focuses all of her concern on him.]
Are you okay?!
[Luckily for them, there didn't seem to be anyone else hanging around at the pool and the only thing that surrounded them was teal water. They were both soaking wet and it would have been a bit embarrassing for someone to witness them like this.
She lets out a tiny sigh, feeling her wet hair and clothes sticking to her. Thanks a lot Wonderland!! She can't help but feel the mood was ruined. Because of her worries, she continues to inspect Ryuji to make sure that he was alright and seeing him in the same condition as her causes a faint smile to curve on her lips.]
no subject
Son of a bitch, someone's getting shanked for this--!
Sayaka tugging his shirt to bring him back to the moment is getting to be a habit; she settles the question of which way he to flail and flounder in the direction of up. He breaks the surface choking up what feels like half the pool.]
What the eff is goin'-- [Cough, cough, gag.] --on!? Of all the places--to end up--
[Mournful doesn't even begin to describe the wail buried in Ryuji's voice as he rubs his eyes clear to see.]
Y-yeah... Are you? Did I hit you?
no subject
[Bless her idol training, even if she needed to improve her endurance from feeling out of shape.
Having accidentally taken in some of the pool water herself, she begins to cough and gag. Yuck, this was so disgusting!! Just from this experience, she wanted to avoid pool water for a good while. Her mouth and nose were buring from the awful chlorine.
In the middle of her gagging, she continues to stare at Ryuji, getting a better look at him and his dripping wet blondie hair, mirroring her own soggy hair. Using her free hand, she brushes her wet bangs away from her face and does the same for him.
Once she's able to keep the coughing under control, she's giggling while still holding onto him.]
S-Sorry... [She apologizes while coughing.] I promise I'm not just laughing at you! We both look so silly.
no subject
And his companion.
... Pretty... well-built...?
Sayaka's observation brings his gaze back around to the girl treading water beside him. The sopping wet girl, hair and clothes matted to her.
Silly is one way to put it, though Ryuji could volunteer some alternative descriptions. Like pretty and well-built... His gaze dips to where the rest of their bodies disappear below the water. Pretty and wet and well-endowed, and wow, they're really close right now.]
Oh, uh. Yeah. Yeah. Wonderland sure got us, heh. That's one way to get your mind off havin' a bad day--it's good to see you laughin'.
no subject
[At first she doesn't realize just how close they were in proximity. It finally dawns on her as she's brushing his drenched dandelion colored bangs away and now that she's getting a real good look at his face. Wow, they are really really close. This was the first she's ever been this close to another guy before.
It's a really good thing they were in Wonderland and not in the real world. There would have been all sorts of paparazzi surrounding them, along with rumors getting circulated around the media. She could picture the headlines; Scandalous news: Famous idol seen with a Vulgar looking boy in the pool!!!
Once the realization hits that they are pretty close, she pulls her hand away from his sopping wet bangs and nervously averts her glaze away. That... was a little embarrassing.
A red blush begins to color her cheeks. What flustered her even more was staring at Ryuji with his clothes wet and stuck to his body. Come to think of it, he was pretty well built too, he had some nice muscles.
Oh no.
Time to shake that thought out of her head!!!]
U-Um... w-would you like to get out of here and dry off?
no subject
[Don't look, Ryuji. Don't look. It's an awkward angle where the most obvious thing on display wouldn't be her cleavage but the person trying to stare down it. And yet, so tempting...
As if sensing the struggle of a boy drawn with an almost scholarly fascination to body parts he hasn't seen up close before, Sayaka keeps his attention pinned squarely above the waterline by reaching toward him. Hm? The action brings on a curl of curiosity. Wh-- He flinches slightly under those fingers, less out of discomfort than that he hadn't expected the ticklish touch like a horse squirming under a horsefly. She's... touching him? Gently? Of her own volition?
Oh. It's over and done so soon that his brain stutters over the thought. But he hadn't hallucinated it, the pleasant tingles traversing the back of his neck say as much. He's still staring, but for different reasons now.
A beautiful idol just stroked his hair?]
Um.
[His brain working to soak up that fact, he's destined to be perpetually two seconds behind this conversation and ready to agree with anything she might suggest so that she doesn't notice he's also flustered into silence, ears warm.]
O-oh, yeah, you're probably right...
[He turns to what he assumes she's looking off at: the side of the pool and the ladder. About to offer she go first, he stops, realizing the compromising position climbing out in a wet skirt would put her in. Uhhh.]
Maybe--maybe I should go first.
[He hauls himself up, sloshing water everywhere, and reaches back to help her.]
no subject
[Where to even begin? She wasn't even sure which was the most embarrassing part about all this. The fact that she absentmindedly started stroking his hair and getting really close to him, or that she for a split second, actually checked out his wet bod.
She just hoped that Ryuji didn't notice, but her tomato looking face might indicate otherwise. There was also the worry about making him feel awkward because she brushed his hair. The silence from him was a slight indicator of that.
Not only that, this was sure a great day to wear a white shirt of all things. She was aware that her cleavage and pink bra were on full display for him to see because of her soaked shirt. While she has done some bikini modeling for fashion magazines, the intimacy of this situation made her feel even more embarrassed than any other time she's modeled.]
Y-Yeah, that's a good i-idea...
[Good thinking, Ryuji! While it was embarrassing, it didn't upset her that he most likely got a good look at her chest. Because of the position they got themselves into, it would be strange for him not to notice. The last thing that needed to happen was for him to see was her climbing out with her wet skirt
and see her matching pink underwear, that would have been even more mortifying. She holds onto his hand and with his help, she's finally able to emerge out of the water and have her feet planted back onto land.
Now they just got to hope that they don't lose their balance and slip back into the pool.
While making sure that she doesn't get too close to the pool, she begins twisting her shirt to squeeze out any excess water. She does the same for her skirt.]
If you want to take another chance, [An attempt is made at trying to make this awkward situation light hearted] I have some fresh towels in my room. Plus, we'll um, n-need to change our clothes so we don't get sick.
no subject
It's different for her than it is for him; she's cute and modest and has curves and other parts on display that aren't supposed to be this... exposed. What else would get her blushing in his company? It doesn't occur to him that moment of noticing could be mutual. Her struggle for words is probably just an effect of his causing an awkward scene, something he's instantly a little sheepish for. Sayaka hasn't given any indication she sees him in that way. You know, like a guy. An appealing, dateable guy. More like a friend guy, closer to what he has with the Phantom Thieves.
To that end, he doesn't really have female friends outside the Thieves to draw experience from here--maybe Sayaka's just affectionate that way and moving aside hair from someone's face is something she'd do for anyone? Now had it been his team who tumbled into a body of water, he might've... snuck a peek just the same, admittedly. (What? He's a healthy guy!) Were Ann or Makoto to touch his forehead, it'd probably be to flick his forehead for being a pervert.
What would they say if they were here? Probably bark at him not to ogle the merchandise while they climbed up and out of the pool...
That thought in mind, no matter how loudly it's calling his name, Ryuji makes an extra effort not to make eye contact with that pink bra as he helps to heft Sayaka the rest of the way.]
What makes you think that space tear won't just dump us out here again? [He says somewhere vaguely to the side of her. Look at this gentleman, he's not watching as she wrings water out. Be proud, Ann.] Damn, what'd you do to get that thing right in front of your door? You musta pissed someone off.
no subject
If she wasn't so embarrassed by the thought, she probably would have complimented him on his nice physique. He definitely had the body of a well built athlete.
She begins to furiously blush even more at the thought and was mentally telling herself to stop!! She really needed to shove those thoughts out of her mind. It was only going to make this already embarrassing scene even more awkward. She was already worried that she might have made things weird by suddenly moving his hair...]
Hehe, you have a point! I'd like to hope that maybe Wonderland will take pity on us this time. [Considering the condition of this place.... she felt as though that hope would most likely be in vain.
Once she finishes squeezing the water out of her skirt, Sayaka jokingly pouts at him and playfully pokes his wet side. However, she couldn't sustain that pout and immediately begins to errupt into a fit of giggles. Even if this was all sorts of embarrassing, at least this was funny and it almost made her forget about her troubles from earlier.
One day, she can definitely look back on this and laugh. Heck, she was already laughing right now. A lot of it had to do with Ryuji's presence. If it were someone that she didn't know well, she probably would have ran out of here by now. But she felt pretty comfortable around him and he hasn't done anything to make her feel awkward. In fact, he's done a lot to help cheer her up.]
Hey! It was fine until I tried to take you into my room. Maybe it has something against teenagers and doesn't like the both of us.
no subject
That was kinda excitin'. Good thing no one's here--the look on our faces was prolly somethin' to see. Maybe Wonderland's just tryin'a protect its idol from takin' miscreants back to her room.
[Not that he's implying Sayaka would do that... uh. Anyway. He hazards a glance at her, smiling despite himself at the touch and the laughter. Even sopping wet with her hair in disarray, she's cute!? This is super unfair!?]
You kinda look like a mermaid.
[A creature of the sea leading men to their doom by caressing their faces... yep, he could see it. All that's missing is the seashell bikini and a starfish hair clip for more mer and less maid. Except that goes a bit against trying to find more layers to dry off with, doesn't it?
Ryuji looks around in consideration.]
Sometimes there are towels lyin' around when I come here. Or there's gotta be a spare room nearby where we can use the closet, instead of dripping water up another four flights of stairs.
no subject
Oh please, Sakamoto-kun! If Wonderland thinks you are a miscreant, I'm going to have to fight them on that. You're a great guy.
[Would it even be possible to fight Wonderland? Actually, most likely not. She probably shouldn't even try fighting something that can transform a whole mansion. But for Ryuji, she'll give it her best!!!
If it were possible for her cheeks to turn an even darker shade of red, it would. Not only was she blushing from mutual teenage hormones, the compliment was one of the cutest praises she's received.]
Huh?! Y-You really think so?
[Like that, she almost began to forget about her worries from earlier. They were still in the back of her mind but thanks to the portals and Ryuji, she was able to laugh and smile again. Ryuji was just like a ray of sunshine and he had the power to make people smile. Everytime she's around him, she never fails to feel happy.]
Yeah, that's a much better idea! Surely there will be some towels on one of the lounge chairs and a closet nearby.
[She begins to take slow steps while looking around, trying her best not to slip and fall and embarrass herself in front of Ryuji even more. Luckily, she didn't have to walk very far and she did spot some towels that were sitting on a round table near the lounge chair.]
Okay! I found some towels.
no subject
[He doesn't sound bothered by that--if anything, he sounds amused. It makes Sayaka's gesture in the pool all the more of a singular event. Special. Different. Has anyone outside his group of masked miscreants ever looked at him that softly before? The memory stays with him like a lingering touch of warmth.]
... Thanks. For-- [He's not sure how to phrase it. Clearing his eyes is too small and too literal. Showing him... kindness? affection? pity at Ryuji looking like a drowned dog? is too vague and sappy. He settles for trailing off and shifting his reply another way.] ... I'd like to see that. That prolly means you'd be dukin' it out with a bunch of talking animals and queens.
[He joins her by her lucky find, accepting one of the towels to whisk it over his head in a way that makes his hair stand up in chunks--not so unlike his normal, everyday look.]
Score! [He slides the towel down the back of his head to rest around his neck.] You do. Your eyes look like the color of the ocean.
[And the hair--but mostly her eyes. Better that than focusing on how her clothes cling to her body, right? Did he pass the platonic friend test?]
no subject
heartstar. ♥]Okay! If you want to see that, then maybe I should give it a try. [She winks.] I'll have to train and get stronger to fight against the queen and all the talking animals!
[Now she was going to have to hit the weights if she were to somehow stand up to them.
As she is drying her own hair, she glances up at him and lightly giggles at how messy he looks. She was so not used to his hair looking chunky like that. Although, she had no room to talk. Her hair was beginning to look frizzy and her bangs were all out of place.
She continues to blush from his compliment. It was also enough to keep her distracted and prevent herself from checking him out again....]
You're making me blush! [As if that wasn't obvious, Sayaka.] You have a way with words.
[The blush on her cheeks were still very visible, even as she lays the towel on top of her head. With his charm and good looks, she didn't think he would have a problem scoring a date with someone!]
Did you need any more towels?
no subject
Ryuji shoots her another indirect, sideways glance, seeing her without actually seeing all of her. What's so funny? She keeps laughing like there's something on his face--not that he's complaining about her better mood. Though their trip to the pool had been unexpected, it's a vast improvement on how he'd found her.]
I thought you were just embarrassed that I was lookin' at you.
[... He admits it so easily...]
Nah, but I, er--I guess I'll dry out over here?
[Here being the other side of a shelf storing pool equipment. Unless she's keen on seeing him drop trou and towel himself off right here...?]
