Summary: Wynonna got a teddy bear she didn't ask for and instead of addressing it to the network she brings it to the bar with her. Like you do.

The Story:

[A lot of people are going to the network with their newly discovered items. It's enough to make Wynonna go back to her own bedroom for once, which is where she discovers a teddy bear that definitely isn't hers. It does remind her a little of the stuffed animals back in Willa's room and thinking about Willa makes her heart ache so she needs to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

Which is why she takes it over to the bar with her, with her boyfriend in tow. She needs to figure out her next step but first? She needs a drink. So she sits down and orders a couple of shots of whiskey. She puts her new friend on one of the barstools next to her.]

None for our buddy here, he's underaged.

Lord, [ doc mutters under his breath, rolling his eyes at her treatment of the bear. she ought to have just made a broadcast asking for someone to claim ownership of the thing, instead of insisting that they take it around with them on some quest to find its owner. like this was purgatory instead of wonderland, and she had yet again roped him into helping with some farfetched case she was working on. ]

Is it really necessary to give the thing its own seat?

[wynonna has been antsty without cases to work, honestly, so maybe having something to latch onto was helpful, at least for the moment. sure down time and peace has been nice but she is getting a little cabin fevery these days. She gives doc a look]

I thought it was funny.

( damon's behind the bar, and he strolls up at the sight of the two people walking in. he's already pretty familiar with them both, because they both like to spend time at the bar. they're the two from the same world who clearly are into each other. are they dating now? he doesn't know. he doesn't keep tabs on people's romantic lives, okay?

he's already preparing glasses of both of their faves to set on top of the bar when- when he notices the bear. )

Looks like Ms. Cuddles, and if it is her, I can safely say she's seen many a hardship and dark times in her long fluff-filled life. ( long, long pause. ) ...where'd you get the bear?

She showed up a present in my room -- like the ones people have been posting all over the network about.

[Wynonna takes her glass and drinks from it before adding:]

Gotta say, you don't seem like a teddy bear sorta guy.

[ doc, for his part, is just glancing up at the ceiling as if to ask some unseen force why wynonna had been right on the money with her whimsical notion of taking the bear door-to-door to all the wonderland establishments in hopes of finding someone who recognized it. of course they came across someone who did. of fucking course.

he reaches for the shot and downs it wordlessly in one go. ]

( Damon looks between the both of them with a little smirk on his face, and he lifts up his own drink. He keeps it on the other side of the bar. He doesn't pretend to do anything but drink while he tends the bar, but it's so his patrons don't have to drink alone, okay? )

Really?

you mean I don't look soft and cuddly? ( He glances at Doc. ) I'm sure he'd disagree. Don't I just look like the soft and cuddly type?

( He's teasing now as he texts Elena to come over and confirm that this is indeed Ms Cuddles. )

[Wynonna notices the way her boyfriend shifts in annoyance and reaches down underneath the bar to swat his hand away from his pistol before letting it rest on his thigh..]

Doc, He's just trying to mess with you.

[wait. shit. she's not supposed to call him that in public....well...she's not going to draw more attention to that...maybe damon won't think much of it.]

[interpersonal]

It's Damon. He'll mess with everyone.

( and so is elena's greeting as she steps into the bar after receiving damon's text. it won't be long before she receives a text from peter parker, as well, to give her further proof something will be going Down. she moves to the bar, placing a hand on damon's back as she looks at them. ) What's going on?

( damon heard that. doc. he's already suspicious about doc because of the first conversation they ever had, but everyone has their secrets. he turns toward elena with a fond, flirty smirk. it's his girl, and he's happy to see her. )

Wynonna here found Ms. Cuddles.

( there's a pause since he knows exactly when the bear was taken. does that mean the cure's out there somewhere? what about the picture of him with his mother? )

Starting to think I should turn this bar into a lost and found with shots.

Miss Earp insisted that we seek out its owner.

[ "slip" for a slip, wynonna. (he's an adult, he promises.) ]

[wynonna shoots doc a look. hers was an accident, you're just being a jerk. but then she turns her attention back to damon and elena.]

I figured it was better to try to find the owner n person than flood the network with another post about these "gifts". Plus, this way I could get a drink too.

[interpersonal]

( she'd be hard-pressed not to notice the tension between wynonna and doc, and elena would question it more if her gaze hadn't landed on miss cuddles. her blood runs cold(er) at the sight of it. ) A mirror stole that months ago. Did you get it with a note like the others?

[wynonna shoots doc another look, a silent see? i was right to want to go after this.]

I did, same note everyone got -- so I assume most of these items were things mirrors stole -- why give it back now?

No harmless reason.

( sorry, gentlemen. the fierce look in elena's eyes when she meets wynonna's gaze? das determination. )

Yeah, I don't think they ever do anything harmless. This is clearly a sign of some sort -- we just need to figure out what.

[for not the first time she wishes waverly is here, she was always good at figuring out these kinds of mysteries.]

[ doc is in silent agreement — the mirrors never do anything harmless (if anything, their overall intent is to harm, at least in his experience) — but if he's pleased that her fanciful notion of wandering about wonderland with a stuffed bear in tow actually produced worthwhile results, he isn't showing it. because he knows this wasn't just gut instincts and good intentions, so much as boredom and a desperate need to do something resembling what she did back in purgatory. ]

We. [ SIGH ] Darlin', gettin' tangled up with the mirrors may not be the best course of action here.

[middlefinger]

[sure, maybe some of it was boredom and the fact that she's felt a little purposeless here -- doing something that resembles her job in purgatory has appeal for a variety of reasons -- but that isn't all that's fueling her attitude here. if something is going to go down she wouldn't be able to live with herself if she stayed out of it and people got hurt when she knows maybe she could have made a difference -- if there's one thing she is good at it it's fighting evil shit.]

So what, we just ignore it? I'm not going to stand idly by and just let other people get hurt.

( damon sees that look of determination in elena's eyes, and he knows what it means. here he considered staying in his bar, turning it into a lost and found and handing out shots to everyone to deal with more of wonderland's fuckery, but if elena's in so is damon. )

Unfortunately, mirrors like to get all tangled with us even when we don't chase them down. I doubt any of those mirrors would have given the goods back without the Queen's permission, and that means someone else might have their hand in all this. ( elena and damon have now both been killed by mirrors. ) Looks like Elena has her Nancy Drew hat on again.

( -- well, he's not wrong. elena's become a little detective in her own right the past year or so, and she's weak for a good puzzle once it's laid out in front of her. she sends damon a smirk in recognition, even as a knot grows in the pit of her stomach. the last time the mirrors were set loose, the queen was sending a terrible message, and for all of elena's guile, she's listened. elena has been less reckless since, only taking risks if they're measured. ... but this seems too important to ignore. )

He's right. Wonderland won't care if we choose to stay out of this or not. We just ... need to be smart about this.

( careful. as much as they can be. )

[ doc, as always, is the reluctant man on board. the one who's here, because he's loyal to the people — or in this case, one of the people involved. he doesn't necessarily agree with making waves when the water hasn't even reached the shore, but he's in as long as wynonna is.

that doesn't stop him from reaching for the bottle damon poured his drink from, though, his ring clinking against the glass. ]

I need to be more drunk for this tomfoolery.

( damon tightens his hold on elena's wrist as his hand wraps around her there. he knows why she's not been so nancy drew lately. so often he can see it all over again, finding her dead like that- with his other hand, he reaches for a few flasks he keeps on the other side of the bar. they're already full of delicious, numbing alcohol.

he pockets one of them for himself )

( like he's more than welcome to, but god knows what hell they'll run into and he has extra flasks. )

[the hand that was still on doc's thigh squeezes it gently. she knows he's not happy about it -- but he'll cope. he always does. this is not the first time he has followed her into frays he would rather ignore -- it won't be the last.time either, she knows enough about herself to admit that.]

If those are for us, we'll definitely take them -- much easier to drag around than a bottle, right, Henry? [look, this time she didn't slip! someone give her a goldstar.]

( damon answers the question by pushing the flasks over in their direction. they should feel free to partake. he lifts up his own to have a drink of it already as if tasting its quality, and then before anyone can say anything else in the quiet, as casual as can be: )

( damon isn't exactly known for investing himself in the lives of others. if he's asking that question, it's likely for a reason. she gives his fingers a squeeze, in response to his earlier reassurance, and moves to grab her own flask while awaiting an answer. the flask is cute af ftr, and it has blood but no one needs to know that.

it's in the process of reaching for it that her gaze lands on doc's ring. o-oh. )

[ doc misses elena catching sight of his ring only by virtue of having turned a displeased eye on wynonna as if to say, "now look what you've done, earp," before responding. ]
