Open and closed starters

Who: Damian Wayne & you? (One closed and one open thread with Jon)
Where: planetarium, the Robin cave, 4th floor, and sketching in the garden.
When: Over the weekend of sept 30th and oct 1st.
Rating: G to PG-13 for Damian's foul mouth.
Summary: Damian exploring without the mask for once. Some starters will be added and Damian giving Jon tutoring (continued from this) and later Jon teaching Damian to domesticate in return.
The Story:
He was fairly certain Drake hadn't left that computer screen all day and he himself was starting to feel the pull of hunger. Damian finally dragged himself out of the cave for once, deciding to leave his mask in his hoodie pocket, he was making this trip civilian. With his utility belt under his clothes of course, because what Bat didn't have their utility belt at all times?

Besides, people just asked fewer questions when it was just a normal looking kid walking the halls right?

Don't have to be rude, but you can use your supervision to read the sign on the door.
[Damian bites his apple and points at the door when they reach their destination.]

Or you know... your regular vision can work for that too.

I can read, Damian. ( thank you very much. damian just stops and points at the door so--jon takes that as invitation to reach out and open it himself, one hand keeping steady on the snack-filled backpack. )

I've just been kinda busy.

Good to know reading will not be needed on your the lesson plan after all. [He says as he follows Jon inside the room. There is step down but Damian manages not to trip. When the door closes it's dark. It takes Damian a moment to adjust his eyes.]

Guess no one is here... It's fine, I got this.

[He smirks and walks over to where he sees a control panel. He can totally figure this out. He pokes a few switches and the dom overhead flickers to life.]

( he's ten, not two. geez, damian. he's not dumb. jon stops inside the door and lets damian lead the rest of the way, because damian should know what he's doing, right? yeah. either that, or he's making it up as he goes. which also works for jon, to be honest. the dark doesn't bother him in the least; jon's eyes adjust, he relies more on his ears than his eyes, and he can't hear nor feel anything close enough to really run into. and when damian trips on the step, jon uses the sound of him stumbling to find where that step is and keep himself on his feet. )

[Yes, Damian was making it up as he went, but it was machinery. Damian knew machinery. Even if they weren't on earth anymore, whoever built this device was likely an earthling. The switches seemed similar enough to earth tech anyway and he was figuring it out the basics well enough.]

Astronomy wasn't really a top subject back home. I was primarily taught how to map the stars in the wild for survival purposes.

[Which was far more useful than the history of constellations in Damian's opinion.}

Was there a specific constellation you were learning about back in Hicksville or are we starting from scratch?

( school at his age is generally just an overview, isn't it? jon can't really think of any specific constellations he's been taught about; most of it has just been an overview of all of the different ones, and their location in relation to other stars. so, no, he doesn't really know how to help damian with an exact constellation. )

We can focus on mapping the stars, like you learned.

A far more useful skill anyway. Not like you're planning on becoming a history teacher. [Damian shrugs and touches a few buttons and a crystal. With that, the stars seem to float off the domed ceiling and instead come to their level all around Jon.]

...Wow, how-- I... Are they safe to touch...?

[They were just projections of stars right? They wouldn't burn someone up like touching a real star should. He signals for Kent to try. It's not like a burning star could hurt him, right? His dad could have literal sunbaths on the sun after all.]

( what a weenie. jon doesn’t need damian’s prompting to reach out for the glowing stars. a burning star can’t hurt him, he lives off of yellow star radiation. the tip of his index finger brushes against one of the stars, and jon gives a quiet, excited noise in the back of his throat before he’s flying up a few inches to reach for the sun. )

[Well that didn't answer his question. He rolled his eyes when Jon started flying around and making weird noises. 'Tt, aliens.']

It is, I wonder how they made them float like that.

[Were they all just projections perhaps. He lightly brushes one. It feels warm but not burn you alive, so bonus! He looks back to the controls and pressed a few more buttons until a comet appeared and whizzes pass Jon. Damian watches it sail by with a grin.]

Okay...that's cool.

( it’s a good thing no one else is wandering in here--because jon’s having a good time, flying among the stars. maybe they’re not real stars, but they’re still bright and shiny, which is what counts--right? the comet flies past him and jon reaches a hand out towards it, brushing his fingers against it but not stopping it’s path.

before twisting around mid-air until he’s upside down, and reaching a hand out to grab onto one of the stars close to damian’s head, the other moving to hold his glasses against his nose. )

Hehe-- I’m Spaceboy now. ( is it a funny joke? no, no it’s not. but he’s ten. he can tell unfunny jokes all he wants. )

[The joke was bad, and he most definitely didn't smile a little because it reminded him of something corny Grayson might say. He clicks an option on the computer screen summoning up a meteor shower. The lesson all but forgotten for the cool visuals obviously.]

Making you feel at home, Spaceboy? You ever seen a Supernova or a black hole when you fly around with your dad?

[He tilts his head up, looking up at Kent floating over him.]

Not really. We haven't gone to space aside from that one time the Eradicator was trying to uh. Eradicate me. ( and he didn't really get to stand out in space on his own, then. the glasses quickly get removed and shoved into his hoodie's pocket so he has more hands to mess with the stars with; they don't feel like much, but he supposes, that's probably for the best.

they wouldn't hurt jon, but they could hurt damian if they felt like real stars. both hands move out to grab for the meteor shower rocks, trying to trap them against his palms. )

It doesn't feel like home, but it is super awesome.

Ah, right he hasn't even taken you to the watchtower has he? [The trip there was pretty cool. Even if Damian would never admit it. There was also the time father took him up to watch the eclipse in the Bat-rocket.]

Not even to relax on the sun? [He wat he'd Kent zip around to catch the meteors, looking much like Alfred when Damian broke out a laser pointer.]

[ Mondo's heart has been dancing since Jon invites him to come along to the planetarium. He's by no means knowledgeable about stars apart from the generic stuff, but he loves looking at them whenever he tours afar to the hilly locations at the outskirts of his town. This is the closest he can get to it while the motorcycle building is still in progress. ]

Never thought we'd have something like this over here. Let's go in!

( he’s got his glasses on, like usual; a large assed backpack still on his shoulders, but his hair’s more than a little messed up and the usual ballcap is missing. flying upside down really doesn’t help keep one’s hair in decent shape.

jon does raise a hand to wave at mondo as he gets closer, smile on his lips. )

Yeah, and it’s super cool! You can touch the stars!

[Damian is already inside figuring out all he can about these controls. Even after opening the machine up he still couldn't figure out how the stars floated like that. He was expecting a projection machine of some kind but no! Wha-- He never liked to associate science with magic but...

He looks up when the doors open.]

You’re late.

[Were they? Damian was ...pretty distracted.]

Wait, no--Class is over. Are you looking for extra credit--Oh, you brought someone.

[Damian blinks when he recognizes that familiar head of hair. It was that guy who all but outed Jon on the networks.]

You can do that?!

[ Mondo heads inside in excitement, but can't help glancing at the humongous backpack over Jon's back from time to time. What kinda stuff does he have there? He'd ask about it, if not for the appearance of another boy. ]

Oh, hey there. [ Huh, this kid looks familiar. Where has Mondo seen him before...? Perusing the boy, he raises an eyebrow. ...Oh! Could he be the Damian guy Jon talked about before? But if that's the case, he shouldn't find him familiar, he hasn't met Damian before. The only friend of Jon he's seen was Robin, after all. ] I'm Mondo Oowada, Jon's friend. Are you Damian?

Yeah, this's Damian! My friend from home that I was talking about. ( that mondo has already met, over the network. he almost stumbles and says something about that, but jon's getting better about that. secrets are hard though.

who ever thought secret identities were a good idea. )

I touched a supernova earlier!

[Damian frowned at Jon because he was not expecting Jon to go around telling people Damian Wayne even existed. So much for keeping his civilian self under the radar.

He sighs and looks over to addresses the other teen.]

Hello, Mondo. Yes, I'm Jon's... [He looked like he might be having a little trouble getting this last word out, so he clears his throat.] friend. You two here to touch the stars?

[He gathered from Jon's excitement. Okay, it had been pretty cool, but breath Kent.]

[ Oblivious of the two's struggles, Mondo just beams at them like he's reflecting the stars himself. ]

Yeah! Did you touch some too? This place's friggin' cool, man. Wonder who came up with it. ...Uh, what's a Supernova, anyway? [ Sounds familiar, but where had he heard it before? ]

A supernova's when a star explodes. It gets really really bright for a little while, before it fades away.

( wow that sounds a lot sadder out loud than he though it would. )

But it looks really cool! Damian had fun with the stars, too. ( because of course, he's going to out damian for having a good time. )

It was educational. Purely academic, not play. [Damian huffs and turned his face away stubbornly because SHUT UP KENT that's why.]

[ Mondo doesn't really get it, but that sounds cool. Sad, maybe, but still neat if he imagines how it goes in his head. Upon noticing the tiny exchange between the two, he can't help laughing and giving both of them head pats. They sure get along well! ]

That's great to hear! Do you like studying?

[ Come to think of it, Damian's voice sounds very familiar. That's weird. It's supposed to be their first meeting... right? ]

I like learning! ( maybe not studying, but learning is good. jon’s been growing bored of the standard school stuff, though--he’s much more interested in learning things that’ll be helpful to a superhero, but that goes without saying. )

And Damian’s really good at helping me figure stuff out, when he’s not being a jerk. ( complimenting damian’s too easy, so of course, he has to back it up with an insult. )

[Damian stared flatly at Mando when he pats his head. He really hated how being in civilian clothes prompted people to treat him like a child, but it was all part of the illusion so Damian fights the urge to flip the man over the control panel.

It was over soon enough anyway.]

Or you just need to stop being such a baby. That might help you learn even faster. [He said at Kent's insult, not even registering the compliment.]
