The ensuing gun fight and complications during the birth of Elizabeth’s daughter, Agnes, turned what should have been a happy day into one of the worst 24 hour spans of his life, and for a man who spent months in south east asian prisons, sleeping in caves, and any number of things most people can’t even fathom, that says a lot.
