It may very well be the worst thing that's ever happened to you! | OPEN MINGLE

Who: EVERYONE!
Where: EVERYWHERE!
When: Friday October 27th - Tuesday October 31st
Rating: PG-13, warn if you're gonna go higher!
Summary: A catch all for the Horrible Memory Truth Event!
The Story:

For the duration of this event, everyone's entire room will be replaced with a memory playing on loop. They will likely recognize the moment as soon as they see it – it is a moment they remember as the worst moment of their entire lives. It could be a memory from home or something that happened in Wonderland. Lengths of the memories will vary, but they will find that these are not memories they can merely watch – they can step into these memories and attempt to make changes to them, and the memories will be long enough that they have time to make changes (though no more than 24 hours). However, anyone who tries will find that it is futile. No matter what you do or how hard you try, the outcome is always exactly the same somehow. No changes you make will prevent that horrible outcome. It just happens over and over and over again no matter what you do.

On top of that, perhaps complicating any attempts to make changes, everyone will be forced to be honest for the duration of the event. No lies or half-truths are allowed, and filters will be gone for the entire five days. If something bothers someone then they will blurt it out, regardless of whether or not it hurts someone's feelings, and no one will be able to simply keep quiet when they have something to say. They must be truthful and honest with every word they say.

This is a catch-all log for all of your Worst Memory needs! Please mark your threads clearly in the subject line with your character's name and Room Number + Floor for character rooms, or just location if you're making a top level for a public place in the mansion (like the tea rooms or the kitchen) so people can see if there's already a thread available. And here's the plot post if you need it!

Have fun!

[They keep the door shut, most days. Usually locked. The sounds of someone creeping along the halls, the slightest shift of the floorboards and the creak of something in the mansion settling, is enough to jar one or both or all of them awake for varying reasons.]

[Today, the door isn't shut. It isn't shut, because the room has been split into thirds.]

[The first is occupied by the first child to arrive - in Wonderland, that is. Chronologically, they were the last to fall. The eighth and final piece, a human who wandered too close to an edge.]

[There are shouts bristling from the other side of the door. Sluggish, slow words interspersed with the cold, metallic cling of a SOUL turned blue, interleaved with the slamming of a golden pin through time and the desperate pleas of a child who doesn't want to see someone go. From nothing, nothing comes.]

[From nothing, nothing will come.]

[You can open the door, if you'd like.]

[But I can't promise you'll like what you find.]

[The thing is...]

[The thing is, he would never. Would absolutely never, only went into their room once without their permission for a prank, and regretted it the moment Chara made an off-hand comment about it in their notes. It made more and more sense as time went on, and then...well, winter happened. All of that happened.]

[He's done invading their privacy, done intruding.]

[But the thing is, he hears his own voice. He hears his own voice and thinks of the last event--Mirror Papyrus, except probably not. His own Mirror, begging him for help from down one of the hallways--except probably not. Mirror Sans hasn't been a threat for over a year, and...it's ridiculous, really, he knows it is. It's absurd that his mind jumps automatically to Mirrors. It's irrational. Mirrors getting involved in events happens so infrequently. And, again, Mirror Sans is barely a threat.]

[But.]

[All he can think is that someone with his voice is threatening Frisk, maybe Chara too, and if it's a Sans, then it's a Sans's responsibility to stop it.]

[So he goes in.]

[And stops just inside the doorway.]

[There's no point in trying to change memories, just like there's no point in trying to change the past. You just make things worse when you try. That's something he gave up on a long time before he even met Frisk.]

[The difference is that this time, he has to remember it. He gets to see every time Frisk kills themselves. Sees the look on Chara's face every time they have to watch it, and then steadfastly grind time backwards to save them. Sees the blank confusion and despair on his own face--and he can read his own tells, of course he can--as his past self tries to piece together what's even happening, as he decides too late that enough is enough and simply teleports the three of them away.]

[Taking the choice from Frisk. And he still--he still doesn't know if that was the right way to do it.]

[All the rest of it, too, all the aftermath. The conversations, the despair, the way they all looked at Frisk, expecting the absolute worst. Sans shakes his head. He gets his senses back enough to step out of the room before memories he shouldn't see start to play--private things between Frisk and Chara and some of the others.]

[He leans back against the wall heavily and closes his eyesockets. Not thinking about blood. Not thinking about the way they screamed. Not thinking about the golden snap of Chara doing all the hard work, the hardest work.]

[Not thinking at all.]
