It may very well be the worst thing that's ever happened to you! | OPEN MINGLE
Who: EVERYONE!
Where: EVERYWHERE!
When: Friday October 27th - Tuesday October 31st
Rating: PG-13, warn if you're gonna go higher!
Summary: A catch all for the Horrible Memory Truth Event!
The Story:
For the duration of this event, everyone's entire room will be replaced with a memory playing on loop. They will likely recognize the moment as soon as they see it – it is a moment they remember as the worst moment of their entire lives. It could be a memory from home or something that happened in Wonderland. Lengths of the memories will vary, but they will find that these are not memories they can merely watch – they can step into these memories and attempt to make changes to them, and the memories will be long enough that they have time to make changes (though no more than 24 hours). However, anyone who tries will find that it is futile. No matter what you do or how hard you try, the outcome is always exactly the same somehow. No changes you make will prevent that horrible outcome. It just happens over and over and over again no matter what you do.
On top of that, perhaps complicating any attempts to make changes, everyone will be forced to be honest for the duration of the event. No lies or half-truths are allowed, and filters will be gone for the entire five days. If something bothers someone then they will blurt it out, regardless of whether or not it hurts someone's feelings, and no one will be able to simply keep quiet when they have something to say. They must be truthful and honest with every word they say.
This is a catch-all log for all of your Worst Memory needs! Please mark your threads clearly in the subject line with your character's name and Room Number + Floor for character rooms, or just location if you're making a top level for a public place in the mansion (like the tea rooms or the kitchen) so people can see if there's already a thread available. And here's the plot post if you need it!
Have fun!

“I’ll go after her.” Skye could see the panic in May’s eyes.
“Skye, I’ll do it. I’ve done it before.”
“No.”
“You have to be willing to—“
“I won’t hesitate. What ever it takes.”
Skye found her just as her men were getting ready to put the case of Terrigen Crystals on the plane.
“Mom! Stop! You can’t do this!” Skye watches as her men put the case down, preparing to fight for Jiaying’s cause.
“No, put them on the jet and get ready for takeoff.”
“I can’t let you leave with those crystals.” Skye knows that she can’t hesitate, even if this woman stand before her is her mother. A mother she had spent her entire life searching for. One disappointment after another, but this? This is the biggest disappointment of them all. Her own mother lied to her. Killed so many people. This is never what she imagined when she dreamed about one day meeting her.
“You can, and you should. It’s the only way to protect our people.”
“It’s not. There are other ways.” Skye was desperate to get through to her mother. To get her to understand that as much as she feels that she is protecting the Inhumans, so many innocent people could die at the hands of her.
“Whose ways? S.H.I.E.L.D.? No. Their way is what got us here.”
“You started this war!”
“This war started decades ago, when S.H.I.E.L.D. was founded to the guard the world against people like us. And it will never end. But you and I together, think of how powerful we could be. We could launch a revolution. Side by side.”
“I don’t want your revolution, because this isn’t about protecting me or your people. This is about hate.”
“No, you’re wrong.”
“It’s consumed you. You can’t even tell right from wrong. I can’t let you destroy any more lives.” They both knew the threat behind Skye’s words, except it wasn’t just a threat. She would go through with it. Skye knew there was no more talking her way out of this, Jiaying was too set on her ways.
“My daughter. So beautiful. So strong.” Hands cupping Skye’s face, Jiaying activated her power. Her power which sucked the lives out of others in order to prevent her from aging, or to heal herself. Skye could feel it instantly and could barely breathe.
“Mom. What are you…?”
“I always believed the reason I endured all that torture and pain was for you, that you were my gift. But you’re not. This is.”
Struggling to breathe Skye managed to gasp out a desperate plea,
“Don’t… Do this.”
“You made your choice. I’m sorry.”
Gathering as much strength as she could, Skye was able to knock the ship with the crystals off of the side of the ship and into the ocean.
Enraged Jiaying went for Skye again, instantly activating her powers again. Only this time Skye was prepared for her and rested her hand on her mothers shoulder, using her power to shake her from the inside.
“Please. Stop.”
Skye and Jiaying turned to see Cal, her father and Jiaying’s husband standing there.
“You don’t have to do this.” Cal was just as desperate for this to end without more death as Skye was, but he knew better. His attention turned to Skye.
“You don’t have to live with that pain. I will.” In an instant, Cal paralyzesJiaying and her hands fell free of Skye, who crumpled to the floor. Watching as the horror unfolded.
“Cal…? What are you doing?” Jiaying asked weakly.
“Keeping my promise.” Lifting her, Cal squeezes her hard enough to break her spine which kills her.
Skye could hear the bones snap, watching on as her mother went completely limp in his arms. Cal knelt to the floor, holding her while he sobbed.
All of these years searching for her parents, and her father killed her mother to protect her. To protect everyone.
[Daisy watches on in horror despite instantly knowing that this wasn't right. Still, Daisy desperately tries to change it. To try and knock her mother out without actually calling to her. She tries a few different ways, but each time it ends with her mother dead. Noticing on the fourth time the door that looks very much like the door to her room in wonderland, Daisy suddenly realizes. This was what Alice had warned them about. Eyes falling shut when she hears her mother's spine snap again Daisy could feel the hot tears rolling down her cheeks. Letting out a shaky gasp she finally managed to make it to the door and quickly stepped out and shut it behind her.
Everything out in the hallway looked normal. Knees weak, Daisy slid down the closed door before pulling her knees to her chest. If anyone came across her here they would probably hear her sobs before they spotted her on the floor.]

Instead of bursting down people's doors, he's walking through the hallways with a bag around his shoulder that has water, comfort food, meds, stuffed animals for the kids. Alcohol if people want.
It's all he can think of to do to help, and it's hard to just- to just sit there without doing anything at all. He hears the sobs before he sees her, and he wonders for half a second if it's not better to give people that moment- to give people a chance to have a private moment to themselves where they can feel the full weight of it.
Then again maybe they don't want to be alone with their thoughts. Peter rounds the corner, hesitating when he recognizes who it is. )
Hey. I can- I can go if you want.
no subject
Sorry.
[Obviously embarrassed that Peter was seeing her like this, Daisy puts one hand on the doorknob but doesn't actually go back inside just yet. Eyeing his bag, Daisy wasn't sure what exactly was inside of it. It wasn't important though. Wiping at her cheeks, Daisy took her hand off the doorknob and leaned against it instead.]
Did you see something too?
no subject
Yeah. Turns out everyone's got their worst memory ever playing on loop in their rooms.
It's why I thought I'd come around and see if anyone needed anything- Sorry though you should have- I get wanting to be alone too so I can also- ( Wow, that's some impressive rambling, Peter Parker. He clears his throat ,and then he opens up the bag so she can see inside. ) Water, alcohol, food, chocolate... stuffed animals, but that's more for the kids... Not that I'd judge. It's whatever might make people feel better at a time like this.
no subject
Looking at the bag he had brought with him, Daisy's stomach dropped when she thought about the kids having to deal with something like this.
Shit.]
That's really nice of you.
[But how was he doing? Clearly this was his way of dealing with all of it, but, had anyone asked him?]
You doing okay?
no subject
I feel like the- the moment I relived is the same moment I've been trying to change since it happened. I relived it a lot in my own head after- after it happened, y'know?
( And then the truth Event takes effect, and he can't help the next words that come out of him. )
My uncle died, because of me. It's why I do the whole spandex, crime fighting thing, cause my choice to not do the right thing directly resulted in him dying. But maybe I can save someone else's... someone.
no subject
I'm sorry.
[Daisy could definitely relate to that, with what happened to Lincoln.]
Can we, um, can I go with you? I'll help you hand things out if you want. I just want to get away from here.
no subject
( Peter can tell it's- it's greatly affected her, and of course, it would. It was her worst moment- her worst memory. They weren't just watching but shoved right back into it as if it- as if they were living it all over again. )
Yeah, of course. Could use another person, holding a bag, handing out more to- to people. It's like being Santa Claus except uh. not at all.
no subject
[It's probably better that no one else had to see that, even back home she never really talked about it. All they knew was that her mother had died and her father had killed her to protect Daisy and everyone else.
Smiling tightly, Daisy moved away from her door.]
Santa doesn't usually gift alcohol. Wish he did, I think I would enjoy that holiday a lot more.
no subject
You can consider us a new brand of Santa. Like the new and improved form?
no subject
[Unsurprisingly there aren't that many people down this hallway. They probably had gotten as far removed from their rooms as possible at this point.]
no subject
( Peter leans against the wall beside a closet they can use to fill up a new bag. Time to restock the supplies. )
Look I know the whole truth thing is happening now, but if you want to talk about what happened, I'm here. If you don't, no pressure. No one should be forced to blurt that shit out.

Elsewhere | OTA
Daisy has checked in on some people to see how they were doing, but also respected that they might want some time alone. Daisy never really opened up about how this affected her with her team back home, and they never pushed to talk about it either. Using the fitness center as a means to not just get in a work out, but to also distract herself. Daisy is there for a while, practically punching a hole in the punching bag.
Unsurprisingly she frequented the kitchen and the coffee shop because God knows she wasn't going to get any sleep. When she wasn't there she might be seen around comforting people to the best of her ability. After all there was only so much she could do for them. The bar seemed to be a hot spot for a lot people too. Daisy being one of them. This event was definitely up there as far as one of the worst. Actually. No. This was the worst one for her so far.]
Bar
But turns out she doesn't so much care for it, not after a couple of drinks and enough pondering to leave her morose and tired.
She puts on a better face to look for company. Not really a smile. Not even her normal professional mask—maybe that counts as lying too? But she does rally enough to convince herself that they'll get through this.]
This seat taken? [Glancing at the one next to Daisy.] If I'm going to have another beer, I could use a distraction.
[And she's definitely going to have another beer.]
no subject
Go for it.
I needed something stronger than beer.
[Daisy moved her glass towards Natasha.]
If you want to try it.
[It was apricot brandy. Daisy figured whatever Natasha had seen must have been bad. Considering what their jobs were back home, you saw a lot of things.]
no subject
[Natasha tips her head in a silent thanks, and gives it a try. She's not unfamiliar with the taste, though it's not what she would have picked.
She smiles as she pushes it back.]
Yes. That is definitely stronger than beer. Is it working?
no subject
Reaching for it when she pushes it back, Daisy lets out a bitter laugh.]
No. Not really.
[Tilting her face into her hand, Daisy pressed her palm into her eye in an attempt to keep from crying.]
You're Russian and you're drinking beer?
no subject
[It's a joke, but a strange thing to say when it's also true. Natasha rolls her shoulders a little, not liking the way honesty sits with her.]
But it's something, and I guess I'm afraid what might come out if I manage to actually get drunk.
[That's worse.]
no subject
[Except she has no intentions of stopping herself right now. Looking over at Natasha Daisy gave a weak smile.]
Maybe I should just stick by you until I'm sober again.
no subject
[Wryly, her own smile self-deprecating. Some spy, stuck telling the truth.]
no subject
[At some point they all had to sleep, although she's not sure how that will work out. Maybe sleeping bags, or producing mattresses from the working closets?]
Promise I won't ask any personal questions. Unless you do, then the gloves are off.
no subject
[Natasha doesn't want to get personal anymore than Daisy.]
So safe topics? How did you get into brandy?
no subject
[Shut. Up.]
Safe topics are good, and, honestly? I'm not. It's strong, that's pretty much all I care about right now.
no subject
That's an interesting choice for strong. It works, though. It definitely works.
[Natasha takes a sip of her beer, feeling only a little safer for it.]
