It may very well be the worst thing that's ever happened to you! | OPEN MINGLE

Who: EVERYONE!
Where: EVERYWHERE!
When: Friday October 27th - Tuesday October 31st
Rating: PG-13, warn if you're gonna go higher!
Summary: A catch all for the Horrible Memory Truth Event!
The Story:

For the duration of this event, everyone's entire room will be replaced with a memory playing on loop. They will likely recognize the moment as soon as they see it – it is a moment they remember as the worst moment of their entire lives. It could be a memory from home or something that happened in Wonderland. Lengths of the memories will vary, but they will find that these are not memories they can merely watch – they can step into these memories and attempt to make changes to them, and the memories will be long enough that they have time to make changes (though no more than 24 hours). However, anyone who tries will find that it is futile. No matter what you do or how hard you try, the outcome is always exactly the same somehow. No changes you make will prevent that horrible outcome. It just happens over and over and over again no matter what you do.

On top of that, perhaps complicating any attempts to make changes, everyone will be forced to be honest for the duration of the event. No lies or half-truths are allowed, and filters will be gone for the entire five days. If something bothers someone then they will blurt it out, regardless of whether or not it hurts someone's feelings, and no one will be able to simply keep quiet when they have something to say. They must be truthful and honest with every word they say.

This is a catch-all log for all of your Worst Memory needs! Please mark your threads clearly in the subject line with your character's name and Room Number + Floor for character rooms, or just location if you're making a top level for a public place in the mansion (like the tea rooms or the kitchen) so people can see if there's already a thread available. And here's the plot post if you need it!

Have fun!

One of the qualities you must have as a biker gang member: loud voice. No one knows why, but try speaking softly and you'll get whacked for 'behaving like a sissy'. That habit gets carried on in his daily life, though he's been moderately better at controlling it. When he's aware, anyway. But right now he's more preoccupied with what the dude's telling him to worry about that.

"Convention? The hell's that." Sounds like some politic stuff, ugh. He's allergic to those shit. "What kinda role? What happened?" He's leaning way too forward on his seat in obvious interest.

Hey, at least Jean understood masculine posturing. He didn't like noisy people, but he knew where it was required too. Usually to assert one's social dominance.

"I was some kind of guard. There was a virus outside that was turning people into zombies, and my job was to keep them out and make sure it wasn't spreading inside. I had to shower in this bleach stuff so often that my hair was white and my skin was all flaky."
trabryu: (ghrk!)

Mondo's face pales. Zombies... He's only heard of their existence through fictional works, but this is Wonderland, where everything fictional comes to life. Heck, the world itself is based on some storybook, after all.

"The fuck, that's crazy." Just imagining having to deal with zombie invasion and trying to keep the infection away by showering in bleach... ugh, it makes him shudder. There's no sense of reality in the story, but that's how all the event have been the past two months. Though, it makes him wonder, did that happen to Ishimaru and the others too? Were they safe? He's never had the chance to discuss things in that vein with Ishimaru. "...Say, how long ago was that?"

[personal profile] angewiesen 2017-11-04 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
"A couple of months... What was it, June? July?" he didn't keep track that closely. The days had a tendency to blend together after awhile. "I dunno. But it was pretty special. I don't think we've ever been messed with that bed before. Not that I remember, anyways. There are plenty of people that've been here for years if you want to talk to them."

Zombies didn't bother Jean nearly as much as they did everyone else. Titans were like gigantic, super fast zombies, so the real deal felt kind of lame in comparison.

That's definitely within the timeframe Ishimaru and the others have been here. God, just what kinda hell have they been fighting so far that he isn't aware of yet? "Well... yeah." The dude's got a point, guess he can do that, leaving some message on the network if he really wants to know anything. But... is it really always a good thing to find out more?

He sighs, sinking back to his seat. "Though, 'guess this is kinda better than that previous event. Didja manage to run away from all those crazy monsters? The ones in the tower."

"I had my maneuver gear with me, so I could run from anything I had to run from. But I met up with some of my friends..."

Jean gave a brief pause. Friends, huh? If he couldn't lie right now, that must be how he really felt about Naoki and Ryuji. He may not have ever come to that conclusion of his own volition.

"...yeah, friends. Anyways, they have crazy powers, so we could take down whatever we had to together. I wasn't even injured. I got lucky."
trabryu: (aah?!)

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-11-08 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Mondo blinks at the pause, darting his eyes around them if there was anything that earned that halt. Finding nothing, he listens on as the guy continues, scratching his cheek. Since the guy's not being particularly alert or anything, Mondo lets that slide. It's probably nothing.

But, friends with crazy power, huh. Mondo... surely knows some people with those too. "What's a maneuver gear? Your superpower?" He can't imagine normal human fighting all those monsters, even with superheroes on their side. After all, strong as he is in street fighting, he couldn't do anything against the creature that was supposedly half his size and had to stay on the sideline.
angewiesen: (14)

[personal profile] angewiesen 2017-11-09 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not a superpower. It's fucking hard to use and dangerous to boot, but it was made with the hope that any human could use it."

You know, after several painful years of training. And even after that, there was still no guarantee that it'd keep your hide safe from the Titans.

"It's basically like a... People usually call it a jetpack? I've got no idea what that is, but you probably do," since Mondo looked like he was from a more modern world. Jean had gotten pretty good at judging people by their clothes, and... In this case, hair.
trabryu: (no fuckin way!)

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-11-09 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's notー?" And yet he still manages to survive? Mondo's eyes widen in both disbelief and amazement. So he's a normal human like him? How? Even if he has friends with superpowers... you gotta hold yourself well to be able to fight alongside them.

"How did you manage?" He had to ask. All he knows about jet pack is that it allows you to blast off to the air, but that alone won't help you with combat, will it? He needs to know what this dude's secrets are to his strength.

[personal profile] angewiesen 2017-11-09 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Training and practice. Lots and lots of practice."

Sure, Jean wouldn't deny that he might have had some kind of natural aptitude towards maneuvering. He had a pretty good sense of balance, and he was young and adaptable. But when it came down to it, he got where he was because he worked hard. He pushed himself as far as he could go, and then some.

"Maneuvering is basically just falling with grace, so I guess you have to have some courage too. You'll never pull off the advanced moves if you're afraid to hurt yourself."
trabryu: (shit)

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-11-12 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Mondo's eyes are glued to the dude as he speaks, keeping him at the edge of his seat. He kept thinking that he couldn't do anything because he had no superpowers. But lo and behold, that isn't the case at all. Has he been making up excuses for his lack of contribution for the past event? For relying completely on his friend instead of protecting him? Was he scared? His fist balls atop his knee, teeth gritting. Damn, he's really lame. He thought he had changed quite a bit since he first came here, but he still has a long way to go, it seems.

"...You think you can show me? Not just the maneuver thing... you seem like you know your things. I've only done street fights before, so I know nothing about real combats." Holy crap, everything seriously just drops out of his mouth with such ease. Asking for a favour that would normally take him ages in most cases, happen in a quick snap. With the two of them being aware that these are all truths, he has no ways to take it all back.

He begins rubbing the back of his neck a little too vehemently, eyes swimming from direct contact. This is too big of a leap for him, but it's one that he needs. Without this tongue control, he'd probably hold back asking and probably mulled about it longer. Heck, he might even end up not asking at all.

"You wanna learn how to fight?"

Jean blinked at Mondo, his expression incredulous. Back while he was still in training, it wasn't strange for other cadets to come for him asking for advice, because he was a top performer in their class from the beginning. But they were learning to battle Titans, not other people, or even monsters in a general sense.

"Shit, just get a gun from one of the closets. That's the easiest way for a regular person to defend themselves. If you need help learning to shoot, there're better people to ask here than me."

He wasn't concerned about the honor of a hand to hand fight. If you had to defend yourself, you should go for the quickest, simplest route. Mondo wasn't military, from what Jean could see. He didn't have to take orders or fight on command, nor did he have any moral obligation to the people around him.
trabryu: (sorry bout that)

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-11-12 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, definitely not a military guy. Fighting, to him and his folks, was more of a way to show off manliness, to show off 'strength' ー shit teens who lived a comparatively peaceful life came up with. It was never about survival. It was just getting down and dirty, trying to prove to each other their worth. To them, though, it was on the same level of a life-and-death matter. Which, now Mondo could see, was a whole load of crap. He'd never deny his life as a bousouzoku member, but coming here has opened him to a bigger perspective, a bigger world. What truly matters, what's important... it becomes much clearer here. Or rather, it has changed.

He intently waits for an answer, and, well. That's a surprise. Gun surely wasn't what he was expecting to hear. It makes sense, though. "But will it work if we're fightin' off those kinda monsters from that time?" After all, he didn't get to witness many of the fights before getting shoved to the safe area, where he wouldn't be an impediment to those who can fight.

"It's better than your bare hands, right?" Even better than the swords Jean was used to. If you shoot in the right place, one bullet was all you needed. "If you need something with a bigger punch, you could ask Rocket. He's the one that hooked my gear up to a battery instead of using gas, and it's never worked better. He makes all kinds of guns, cannons, explosives..."

Also, he was a raccoon. Jean tried not to bring that up, because he didn't seem to appreciate it.

"As long as you're careful, and don't blow yourself to pieces, a good gun could put you on a level playing field."
trabryu: (sorry bout that)

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-11-13 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
Point.

Mondo was much bigger than the creature he faced in the tower, and yet he wasn't able to compete physically. A long-distance combat might prove to be much more effective. He takes a mental note to find the person mentioned. Rocket, huh? He could try combing the network for that, and he could definitely use some pointers from more people ー especially those who've been here for long.

"Right. Thanks a lot, ..." His words trail off upon realisation that he doesn't know this guy's name, even while asking him questions. "Uh. I'm Mondo Oowada, by the way."

"Jean Kirstein," Jean replied, and returned the belated introduction. "You new here? Haven't seen you around. I probably don't get out of my routine as much as I should..."
trabryu: ('sup)

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-11-14 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Kirstein, gotcha." That's a little hard to pronounce, but he'll get used to it, maybe. He nods at the question. "Kinda. Been here for two months plus at most. I don't keep count." Routine...? "What d'ya usually do?" Ah, shit, he didn't want to ask that, he just meant to ponder about that, dammit. His least favourite thing is people nosing around his business, and now he's doing just that, how great. "Uh. My bad, you don't hafta answer that. It just rolls out."
angewiesen: (6)

[personal profile] angewiesen 2017-11-14 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sort of new, then," Jean wasn't that sociable, so he wasn't surprised they hadn't met before. He shook his head at Mondo in a consolatory manner. "Don't worry about it. I take a run every morning, and then I train with my Gear in the outskirts of the forest. Sometimes I'll pop into the kitchen for some food. Otherwise, I kinda keep to myself."
trabryu: (sorry bout that)

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-11-15 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh."

Training, eh? Come to think of it, he hasn't been exercising much lately for well... certain reasons, but running is something he can do in the meantime. He's been holing up in his workshop too much lately, after all.

"I've been just makin' woodwork and workin' on my bike myself. ...Well, we keep away from problem that way, but I guess sometimes we miss out on stuff."

Like getting to know more people. Mondo doesn't particularly like socialising either, but he can't deny that having some, uh, friends...? here helps a lot.

"What, like whittling?" It was a common hobby back in the cadet's squad. Not that anyone was good at it; it was just a way to pass the time. "Or making furniture or something?"

As for bikes, the only kind he knew of were the ones you peddled with your own feet, which would likely horrify Mondo.
trabryu: ('sup)

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-11-18 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Sorta. 'm still no good at those miniature stuff, but guess I'm gettin' the hang of the furniture makin'. Lately been workin' on bigger racks. Like this big." He gestures for Kirstein to see just how big exactly ー well, it's just a medium-sized rack. "D'ya want anythin'? It'll be a practice for me too, and it's better when there's some kinda... objectives to it, y'know?"

Oh no, that will horrify him to no end. You have to hear about why the motorbikes are the best vehicles in the world!!

"I don't really need anything," Jean's room was sparse, and he had a fairly waste-not-want-not mentality about things. The mansion was so generous he rarely had to ask things of others, "s'good to have a hobby here though. You'll get bored quick without something to take up your time."
trabryu: (sorry bout that)

sorry for the lateness!

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-11-26 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
"That so." Come to think of it, he wouldn't know what to ask for either if he were Kirstein. The closet has pretty much everything they need anyway, unless you want some personalised things. This guy definitely doesn't look like someone who's particular about that. Not that Mondo can read people all that well... he just gives off that vibe.

Speaking of bored, though, Mondo really is getting bored now. Or more like, anxious. Sitting around doing nothing for too long isn't really his thing, even if he did need a breather for a moment there. The longer he's here, the more he wonders whether or not his friends are faring well in this event. He'd better check up on them.

"Well then, I'm off to look around." He gets up from the couch, pointing to a general direction with his thumb. It was nice to get a short break with someone so laid back, his other 'acquaintances' here are pretty... something. "If ya ever wanna do some wood crafting, the workshop's over at the eighth floor, room 38."
