Summary: A catch all for the Horrible Memory Truth Event!
The Story:

For the duration of this event, everyone's entire room will be replaced with a memory playing on loop. They will likely recognize the moment as soon as they see it – it is a moment they remember as the worst moment of their entire lives. It could be a memory from home or something that happened in Wonderland. Lengths of the memories will vary, but they will find that these are not memories they can merely watch – they can step into these memories and attempt to make changes to them, and the memories will be long enough that they have time to make changes (though no more than 24 hours). However, anyone who tries will find that it is futile. No matter what you do or how hard you try, the outcome is always exactly the same somehow. No changes you make will prevent that horrible outcome. It just happens over and over and over again no matter what you do.

On top of that, perhaps complicating any attempts to make changes, everyone will be forced to be honest for the duration of the event. No lies or half-truths are allowed, and filters will be gone for the entire five days. If something bothers someone then they will blurt it out, regardless of whether or not it hurts someone's feelings, and no one will be able to simply keep quiet when they have something to say. They must be truthful and honest with every word they say.

This is a catch-all log for all of your Worst Memory needs! Please mark your threads clearly in the subject line with your character's name and Room Number + Floor for character rooms, or just location if you're making a top level for a public place in the mansion (like the tea rooms or the kitchen) so people can see if there's already a thread available. [Not meant to be a comment on Peggy's personal conduct at all -- but anyone who has done any kind of intelligence work knows the power of being able to hold back the entirety of what one is thinking. It's not a skill Jemma has mastered, but she is a better liar than she used to be.]

I most certainly can.

[ appreciate it. deeply and thoroughly. but peggy's gone and made the mistake of assuming jemma's work must keep her in the lab rather than in any sort of circumstance that might call for frequent and difficult lies. maybe just the usual, peggy'd expect: like saying you work at the phone company instead of a covert intelligence agency. ]

Although not all of us do. [ ... ] Are there many calls for tradecraft in your particular line of work, Agent Simmons?

[Oh, now she sees what it's getting to.]

Well, once Hydra came out of the shadows and our numbers were so drastically reduced, it became necessary to step outside of our comfort zones.

[She grimaces, remembering how her assignment of being undercover at Hydra could have met a much worse end than it did.] I had a brief mission undercover as a lab employee at Hydra. I wouldn't say it went superbly, but did go well enough, for a time.

[mucked]

[ -- now, here's something other people have been particularly mum about when it comes to discussing the matter with peggy. hydra's rise and return, although she supposes an evil can't return if it's been there the whole bloody time. ]

An undercover scientist. [ at a lab. one of hydra's labs. good god. ] ...Bloody brilliant.

[ a puff of her cheeks. ]

What went wrong?

The cover was blown by someone who had a score to settle with the team, and I had to leave. Luckily, I had some help escaping.

[Man, she misses Bobbi a lot.]

[ now, that's interesting. ]

Someone else was planted at the lab.

Yes. Well, no. She wasn't planted in the lab alongside me. She was a bit higher up, in the administration, somewhere. A bit scary, actually.

[Before she knew she was on her side, anyway.]

...A daunting assignment for the both of you. As I recall, HYDRA's never been a picnic to infiltrate.

[ she'd done it at least once before -- to crack erskine out of schmidt's clutches. and that had nearly ended quite poorly. ]

I think my reputation did the work of not being dismissed out of hand. [She says modestly -- well she is one of the best at what she does.] The hard part was everything after that. I'm sure Bobbi was much better at it, she was trained for that sort of thing.

[Not even your shininess is going to keep Jemma from gushing about Bobbi Morse, Peggy. Don't be jealous, she loves and admires you both.]

[ not jealous at all. indeed, it might be a relief to share the spotlight with someone else. ]

Field agent. [ soft guess. peggy nods. ] Even so, you made it out. And, as I understand, at a time when your resources and back-up were both particularly skint. [ ... ] Sorry about that.

[ -- an apology she wouldn't normally say aloud, because she tends to keep that culpability herself. but it seems peggy assumes the blame for whatever wreckage shield became. ]

Very much. [Skint was a generous term, even.] Well. We all survived, more or less in one piece.

And lived to keep the agency alive. [ in one form or another. ] Have you done much more fieldwork since, Agent Simmons?

[bravejemma]

More than I would have liked. The line is pretty blurry once the organization dwindles to a certain size.

[Like, when "Real" SHIELD sort of invades the compound and you're helping Fitz smuggle out Fury's toolbox, or distracting a threat inside the base so Coulson can run into them with an ATV... it all sort of becomes field work at that point.]

[ -- now, there's a question. ]

Just how small has it become?

[She's not super clear on numbers, but...]

At our smallest there was six of us, right after Hydra took over. We've been reuniting with small cells and individuals ever since. I suppose when I got taken we were upwards of fifty. Many came back out of the woodwork once things calmed down. And I suspect Coulson had more than a little bit to do with it.

Fifty is nothing to sneeze at. You can do a lot of good with fifty. [ and then, after a thoughtful pause, she's forced to tell a second rallying truth. ] You can do a lot of good with only six, too.
