Summary: A catch all for the Horrible Memory Truth Event!
The Story:

For the duration of this event, everyone's entire room will be replaced with a memory playing on loop. They will likely recognize the moment as soon as they see it – it is a moment they remember as the worst moment of their entire lives. It could be a memory from home or something that happened in Wonderland. Lengths of the memories will vary, but they will find that these are not memories they can merely watch – they can step into these memories and attempt to make changes to them, and the memories will be long enough that they have time to make changes (though no more than 24 hours). However, anyone who tries will find that it is futile. No matter what you do or how hard you try, the outcome is always exactly the same somehow. No changes you make will prevent that horrible outcome. It just happens over and over and over again no matter what you do.

On top of that, perhaps complicating any attempts to make changes, everyone will be forced to be honest for the duration of the event. No lies or half-truths are allowed, and filters will be gone for the entire five days. If something bothers someone then they will blurt it out, regardless of whether or not it hurts someone's feelings, and no one will be able to simply keep quiet when they have something to say. They must be truthful and honest with every word they say.

This is a catch-all log for all of your Worst Memory needs! Please mark your threads clearly in the subject line with your character's name and Room Number + Floor for character rooms, or just location if you're making a top level for a public place in the mansion (like the tea rooms or the kitchen) so people can see if there's already a thread available. Didn't think it was my place. It happened over twenty years ago, so it would just be reopening old wounds. And we didn't know for sure—just we knew it was a possibility.

And I don't know if you've noticed this about me, but I'm not one who shares a whole lot. Sometimes it's easier just to sit on a secret than to spread it around further. Most of the time, really.

[Natasha folds her hands on the table, her lips narrowing ruefully.]

Most of the time with things like that, it's less about finding the right answer and more about running damage control.

Damage control isn't something I know much about. [Damage yeah. Damage control, not so much.]

[Natasha huffs, almost a humorless laugh but an actual chuckle never quite materializes.]

Maybe it shouldn't be, but rumor has it New York has enough vigilantes without adding to the pile.

[His pay grade, even in the Marines, was crap. ]

Yeah, but you know what they say about New York: if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere. [No he is NOT singing it.]

[Natasha shakes her head, very much willing to let the converation move on.]

What else are we supposed to say? New York's a sinkhole that eats everyone alive doesn't have the same ring to it.

I won't be on the streets any time soon. The benefits package could be better, though.

[Her smile is thin, but she's not lying.]

You know, I sort of like it. New York, I mean. It's as good a place to be as anywhere I've been.

It's home. When you grow up there, when you go away, it's everything you want to come back to. Not sure how it is for anyone else.

Some lines of work just happen. You don't so much have the choice to sign on.

[Natasha's jaw tightens a little as she says that, shaking her head.]

Even if you have the chance, the job isn't usually what you thought it was when you signed up.

Nah, I can't say that. I signed my stupid ass right on up.

Yeah, well, if they told you the truth, who the fuck would be dumb enough to sign onto it?

Why'd you join up? [She shouldn't have asked that, but the question trips off her tongue, curiosity behind it.] The thing is, you don't strike me as the following orders type.

After 9/11. Felt like the thing to do.

[He laughs, but not the funny kind.] You'd be surprised. When all you're good at is killing people, sometimes it's good to think there's someone who can pull on the leash.

[Natasha glances away, biting her lip before she can admit to having felt similar at times. Joining up with SHIELD, she'd thought someone else would be giving the orders. Hadn't so much occurred to her at the time to trust her own judgment.]

When most of your friends are assassins and soldiers, you know how it goes.

I'm pretty predictable, yeah. [Because he hadn't been the only one to sign up. There'd been hundreds, with the same idea. Especially from New York.]

Might suggest you get some better friends, then.

The thing with friends, most of the time you end up with the ones you have. Not the ones you think you're going to have.
