It may very well be the worst thing that's ever happened to you! | OPEN MINGLE

Who: EVERYONE!
Where: EVERYWHERE!
When: Friday October 27th - Tuesday October 31st
Rating: PG-13, warn if you're gonna go higher!
Summary: A catch all for the Horrible Memory Truth Event!
The Story:

For the duration of this event, everyone's entire room will be replaced with a memory playing on loop. They will likely recognize the moment as soon as they see it – it is a moment they remember as the worst moment of their entire lives. It could be a memory from home or something that happened in Wonderland. Lengths of the memories will vary, but they will find that these are not memories they can merely watch – they can step into these memories and attempt to make changes to them, and the memories will be long enough that they have time to make changes (though no more than 24 hours). However, anyone who tries will find that it is futile. No matter what you do or how hard you try, the outcome is always exactly the same somehow. No changes you make will prevent that horrible outcome. It just happens over and over and over again no matter what you do.

On top of that, perhaps complicating any attempts to make changes, everyone will be forced to be honest for the duration of the event. No lies or half-truths are allowed, and filters will be gone for the entire five days. If something bothers someone then they will blurt it out, regardless of whether or not it hurts someone's feelings, and no one will be able to simply keep quiet when they have something to say. They must be truthful and honest with every word they say.

This is a catch-all log for all of your Worst Memory needs! Please mark your threads clearly in the subject line with your character's name and Room Number + Floor for character rooms, or just location if you're making a top level for a public place in the mansion (like the tea rooms or the kitchen) so people can see if there's already a thread available. And here's the plot post if you need it!

Have fun!

Yep, they'd just point out how codependent we are. As if we didn't know. As if we care when it means we always have someone we can count on.

[She shrugs, crossing her arms uncomfortably.]

Sure as fuck couldn't count on our parents.

In my experience, parents aren't especially dependable as a rule, and certainly not as an emotional resource.

[And at this point he opens his soda and takes a large gulp because for the love of god can he please stop talking.]

[Yeah, this event is awful.]

Guess that explains how you manage to sneak out and fight crime.

And sneak out and take pictures of Batman and Robin when I was just an obsessed kid. My childhood has always been pretty light on supervision.

[This was a horrible idea. Why did he venture anywhere that other people might be again?]
choosetruth: (but let us seize the day)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2017-11-19 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that definitely shouldn't be allowed. Even my parents wouldn't have been okay with that. [A beat.] Well, unless we published the images and wrote a great expose. But the ratings would have had to be killer.

Batman and Robin are usually worth pretty good ratings, but I kept my collection extremely private.

Because I'm a stalker.

And still talking, apparently.

[MORE ZESTI.]

[Her blink is hidden by her sunglasses, but her shock is still pretty apparent.]

That... raises a lot of questions I really don't want to know the answers to.

[Private collection. Yeesh.]
mrsarcastic003: (Bzuh?)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2017-11-21 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[The look he gives her is extreme confused because what’s so “I don’t want to know” about Batman candids... Oh gross.]

That is so not what I meant. My collection compromised secret identities. And my parents might have found it in themselves to object if they saw the irrefutable evidence of my evening non-gross activities.
choosetruth: (they think they're running this town)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2017-11-25 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
...honestly, your story would be a lot less weird if your evening activities were a little more grosser.

[At least that would make sense. Teenager with a camera and too much time on his hands. Gross, not something she'd want to hear about in detail, but pretty normal. Not many kids were going out and snapping pictures of Batman and Robin both in and out of costume for no other reason than to amass a private collection. He wasn't even publishing them, and that was guaranteed killer ratings. Or front page above the fold, since blogging isn't as big a thing in his world yet.]

So why did you do it? No collection can possibly be completely secure. That's why Shaun and I were careful never to write down anything about our feelings for each other, even in our private shared journal.

[...yeah, she wasn't planning on adding that last part. Great.]

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2017-11-27 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
They've been my heroes as long as I can remember. I wanted to be a part of it in some small way.

[pause]

In retrospect, I realize this makes me incredibly creepy.
choosetruth: (when the bell rings)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2017-11-28 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Creepy, and a little sad. You must have been pretty lonely growing up.

[This is awful. Normally she's too respectful of privacy and opposed to dealing with emotions to discuss these things, even if she'd have thought them. Tim's childhood isn't really any of her business.]
mrsarcastic003: (tim19)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2017-11-29 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
[That's a question he would never have answered, given the choice.]

Uh. Very, actually.

[He looks horrified for a moment, then adds--]

Well. I was an only child. I'm sure that accounts for some of it.
choosetruth: (we ain't come this far to lose)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2017-11-29 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm extremely lucky that I had Shaun. I don't think I would have done exactly the same thing in your place, but I know I would not have grown up the way I did without him.

[For one thing, she would have published the crap out of those pictures if it were her. But she's never needed to find out.]
mrsarcastic003: (tim23)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2017-12-06 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
You might have found someone else to stalk.

[He gives her a sidelong look.] I hear Lois Lane's pretty cool, if you're into hard-hitting journalism.
choosetruth: (talk about seizing the day)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2017-12-09 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Is what she does really that hard-hitting? Doesn't she mostly just write about how great Superman is?
mrsarcastic003: (Bzuh?)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2017-12-09 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
...Are you kidding?
choosetruth: (they think they're running this town)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2017-12-11 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I'm actually capable of kidding right now. [Truth event. It's so much fun.] Is that not the case?
mrsarcastic003: (tim3)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2017-12-11 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
[How is it possible for someone with access to information about his world to be so wrong?] She's award-winning. She's done a lot of good work exposing some pretty terrible stuff. She's probably one of the most respected journalists in my world, and that has nothing to do with her ability to get an interview with Superman.
choosetruth: (just to get bad news)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2017-12-14 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Okay, so apparently the wikipedia article's worth of knowledge she has on the subject doesn't really cover the whole story.]

There've been a lot of versions of the Superman story told. TV shows, cartoons, comics.... apparently something called a "reboot" happened a lot. As a character, she's been around since the thirties. As you might imagine, the character was fairly different back then, and unfortunately, some part of that has clearly stuck in the public consciousness.

I'm glad to hear that's not how she is now. Your version sounds like she might have actually got me reading comics.
mrsarcastic003: (tim13)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2017-12-20 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
[He gives her a quick grin.] Maybe you should check out some more comics from the library and read them yourself this time. I recommend Superman, Action Comics, and there was a title you got me called Superman: Lois and Clark. The issue I read was interesting, and a lot more like the Lois Lane from my world than the one you're describing.
