[open] i'll hold your hands

Who: Tim Drake and You!
Where: Throughout the Mansion
When: Ewaymas!
Rating: PG
Summary: Tim is trying to stay away from the cookies, but he keeps accidentally eating them. And they keep making him cold.
The Story:

Tim has been trying to avoid the cookies that are all around the mansion in baskets like baited traps, but he can't… quite… stay away from them, despite not being very interested in cookies as a rule (unless they're Alfred's, but of course he's the exception to every rule). He's seen the effects that the cookie shave had on Georgia Mason and others, and he's not interested any of that for himself.

And yet.

Somehow he keeps catching himself about to eat one, without realizing what's happening. And then, of course, inevitably come the times where he doesn't manage to catch himself before eating one. Is he festive? Small? Musical? Hungry?

No. He's cold. Every time he fails to stop himself from eating a cookie, he's overtaken by a sudden chill, and unable to get warm.

Jesse spends a lot of time in the kitchen; magical cookies and a mansion made of gingerbread does not nutritious eating make. Especially when the magical cookies have equally magical side effects. So she putters and cooks and bakes everything as different from cookies as she can manage.

There was a bit of an accident with flour, and she’d ended up covered in the stuff. After cleaning up, and tucking what she’s made so far (five pies, two batches of her mom’s lasagne, chicken curry, and two pavlovas) away temporarily and quickly cleaning up her mess she sped off to her room to clean up and change before speeding back.

The orange gold lightning announcing her arrival as she comes to a halt, she blinks in surprise to see that someone had taken up residence in the kitchen. And he looked cold. “You all right?” she asks, followed by “you kind of don’t look all right.”

The Jesse gives him as she's heading towards the fridge to get a plate of lasagne says that she isn't buying it for an instant. Sure, she runs a little hot, now that she's a speedster, but it's not like she wouldn't be able to tell if it was cold in the kitchen. "Cold-cold, or Wonderland-is-pulling-more-shit cold?"

She hasn't eaten a magical cookie herself yet, but her logic is still sound. Because it's Wonderland.

Jesse finishes scooping out lasagne, returning the leftovers to the fridge and setting the plate on the counter. "Hm." After a moment, she dashes away in a flash of red-gold lightning, coming back with a heated blanket she'd designed herself.

After all her time in Zoom's lair she kind of doesn't like the cold much. And so she prepared.

She draped it over his shoulders without fanfare; but carefully. He is having soup, after all. "So I don't know if it'll help. It's great but it can't counteract Wonderland's stupid internal magic. Can't hurt, though."

Can you hear me bullshitting genius science-y things? XD

That’s a relief to hear. There’s so much she can’t do when it comes to Wonderland and the crap it pulls, it’s nice to be able to do at least a little something when it comes to the results. “Something else. Sort of. It’s self-replenishing. Needs a little down time every so often, but it lasts weeks before it needs it.”

She shrugged. “A lot of time on my hands here, mostly. And taking advantage of my Earth being a little more advanced, tech-wise. At least compared to the other Earth I’ve spent a lot of time on.” Yeah, her life is kind of weird.

"Well, just the one. But yeah." Jesse takes a bite of lasagne. "It's kind of a long story. Involving a psychotic speedster and bunch of breaches being torn open between my Earth and the other Earth." There's a faint almost-smile on her lips. "You know, the usual."

Jesse laughs. “Pretty much.” She shrugs. “I wouldn’t say it’s a good story, really. But it’s mine.” She takes another bite of lasagne, thinking. Figuring out where to start. “Central City started getting terrorised by this speedster who went by the name of Zoom.” It’s not as hard to talk about it, about him, as it used to be. But she still remembers. Still sometimes has nightmares about it.

Absently, she rubs at her collarbone, where Zoom had stuck his hand inside her shoulder in an effort to get information she didn’t have out of her. “It was bad... But after the rifts were opened... Zoom grabbed me. To try and manipulate my Dad. Blackmail him into helping him. Only it didn’t work exactly the way he planned, although he did a little, in the end. Dad went through to the other Earth, to try and get help to save me. Afterwards we ended up living there for a while, until Zoom was dealt with.”

Jesse is curious. Really curious. It’s not like she doesn’t know alternate universes, but she hasn’t run into someone else from one with any sort of similarities before. But she has, now. And it’s weird and more than a little bit fascinating. “I’ve heard of Keystone. Almost went there but I ended up in Opal City instead for a little while.”
