Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:

[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering décor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

Bars flank each side, service for all manner of alcohol unless a minor requests something, and the primary setting stage features an enormous clock for the countdown. ]

[Daisy becomes confused when he mentions thinking there would be more Christmases. She didn't know about his past, or what happened to his family.

She wasn't wrong about them moving in a slow circle though. In a way it was sort of relaxing, but she didn't really see it as dancing.]

What do you mean?

[ Good, they're both confused. ]

Eh, nothing. [Don't dump your problems on other people, Frank. Especially not at a party. ]

Just didn't have anything to celebrate and didn't want to bring anyone else down. That's all.

Yeah, well, I guess the only thing a lot of us are celebrating is still being alive in this place.

I suppose that's something. Still alive means we still have a chance of getting the fuck out of this place.

[He snorts. At himself.] Life of the fucking party, right?

[The song switched again, but the tempo pretty much remained the same.]

It's always nice when people are realistic about the situation we're stuck in.

If you're not aware of the situation, you can't plan a way out of it.

[That's the Marine way. Or at least the way that's gotten Frank out of a lot of shit.]

At least it's a good place to see who's still around.

[Maybe this wasn't the best topic to be talking about right now, even if Daisy found it hard to ignore. He probably didn't come here to talk about this.]

[ He wasn't sure why he'd come here, other than to just be around other people at least for a while. ]

Oh, you think I can't? [Excuse you, but despite appearances and logic, Frank actually knows how to dance. It was part of officer training. What. ]

Well you haven't so far, so, I don't know. Can you?

One way to find out, huh?

[Prepare to be surprised, or at least, led out onto the dance floor. Surprise: he wasn't lying. Just don't ask him to line dance. Man has his damn pride. ]

Either way, she isn't that surprised. She had a feeling with a little pushing he'd give in.]

What was that about not really being good at this?

[The world is full of surprises, so, he wouldn't bet on her line dancing odds. ]

Officer's training. Don't worry. It doesn't last. [He knows just enough to not make a fool of himself with a basic dance. Any of that Spanish stuff? He's toast. Or however you'd say that in Espanol.]

[She very much doubted that he actually lacked it, but, who was she to pass up an opportunity to tease him? Especially when they barely knew each other and she was pretty damn tipsy.]
