[NYE Party] happy new year and lots of fun

Who: EVERYONE, but especially you!
Where: Wonderland Ballroom
When: New Year's Eve
Rating: PG - PG13 (will change if applicable)
Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:

[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering dΓ©cor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

Bars flank each side, service for all manner of alcohol unless a minor requests something, and the primary setting stage features an enormous clock for the countdown.

[ Where will you be when the clock strikes midnight? ]

oh my God Frank NO

[Ben isn't aware he's being spoken to right away, not until the second comment that has him slowly turning toward Frank as offense at the first comment stokes a fire of great irritation. He places the glass of wine in his hand on the counter, having suddenly lost the desire to enjoy it but simultaneously acquired the urge to smash it upside Frank's head. Ever the diplomat, Ben opts for the smaller escalation.]

Major Benjamin Tallmadge, 2nd Continental Light Dragoons of the United States Continental Army. A real rank, and a real regiment in a real military institution. [He very nearly adds that they are things for which his brother and many close friends have died, but he bites his tongue.]

[Ben knows who you are, sir, at least in name if not rank, and in light of that he'd like to at least attempt to get along, so...] ... But... it is the New Year, and I am from a different time. It would be remiss not to forgive another soldier.

[And so, he extends a hand.]

[ Ah, shit, the guy's for real AND outranks him. Just his luck. ]

Yeah. Uh. Good job. I mean, winning that one. [Go team America?]

[Ben drops his hand, but tempers his irritation to avoid taking offense. Celebration. Good times.]

Thank you. [He thinks??] It was 1777 last I recall but I studied the end of the war to find out how we did it. [It's been a Fun Ride.]

You're 20th century, I assume?

Pretty much invented guerilla warfare, you guys did.

[Hey, he knows history. At least military history.]

Twenty first. Totally different war. It's complicated now.

War is complicated by its very nature, but I take you to mean how it changed after the First World War. [He's been catching up decade by decade.]

People never change, I've found. Just the technology they use to fight one another.

Kind of take it to mean we don't actually have a solid enemy to kill anymore. Certainly not one that conveniently wears bright red coats.

[ He wishes they did. ]

Weapons, yeah. Also the medicine. You know. At least we got antibiotics and shit.

I've... seen those mentioned. [Well. His studies have only gotten him so far. He's not yet at the year where they actually identified the penicillin molecule, but in discussions of scientists in the late 19th century its discovery and future use were described.

He's still a little awkward though. He'll get there.]

--But... Yes. It does help that they generally prefer to stand in straight lines, except for their mercenaries and Rangers who aren't bound by chivalry and propriety. Admittedly, it's hard for me to imagine an entire army as an entity difficult to see or understand. Single enemies, yes. Enemy agents, assassins... traitors. To have an entire war fought that way--complicated is one word for it. [He would also accept "complete horse shite" as a descriptor.]
scoutsniper: (dont' tell me what i'm hearing)

We've...kind of redefined chivalry. [ So that they were still the good guys, of course. But it still totally counts.

A little bit. ]

Well, we got better surveillance now. And night vision.

Still the same: betting your life for something you believe in.
