Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:

[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering décor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

Bars flank each side, service for all manner of alcohol unless a minor requests something, and the primary setting stage features an enormous clock for the countdown. ]

[ Emma awkwardly shifts her current glass of champagne from her right hand to her left so that her right is free to shake should the need arise, though the contents of the glass itself are getting dangerously low. Fortunately, Klaus is here to save the day. ]

It is the night for it. [ If ever there was an occasion to go overboard on champagne... ] Klaus-- nice to meet you.

[ She'll offer that handshake when he's not so busy pouring. ]

I suppose if we're forced to celebrate another year here... ( champagne is obvious, and necessary. his tone is just as light and dry as his sister's, his dimples showing. (their sense of humor runs in the family.) he finishes pouring and easily holds his flute and the bottle by the neck in one hand.

he takes emma's, his grip firm but painless. ) And I, you. ( he glances minutely to freya. ) We seem to have missed your introduction. ( he might've snooped around her first foray into the network. not with particular purpose, mind; he only likes to keep appraised. )

[Her tone is teasing as she responds, raising her glass to her lips.]

Though I'm not sure how much of a welcome I was, considering I was very drunk at the time.

[Emma's own handshake is firm and confident; she drops Klaus' hand afterwards to prop her own against her hip.]

More welcome than most. At least you were willing to admit to how crazy this all is.

[Displaced and worried about her kid, Emma had quickly grown tired of being told to 'just accept it.']

Yours was one of the saner responses I got. Trust me, I get the appeal of the whole 'drunk' angle.

( klaus is quiet during the exchange, but he's certainly taking in their friendly ease of conversation with a measure of interest and approval. (the brother kind no one asked for, ofc.) ) So do we all. You'll find my family is not one to approach anything without a 'shot' ( he holds up his flute; yes a pun ) of sanity. So many here are willing to rest on their laurels for their own, I suppose.

I think it helps that our own world can be quite ... trying. We had already learned the benefit of liquid coping mechanisms.
