Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:

[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering décor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

Bars flank each side, service for all manner of alcohol unless a minor requests something, and the primary setting stage features an enormous clock for the countdown. ]

[It's as Cullen is being such an attractive wallflower that Mettaton sidles up, dressed in something a little more flashy. That's not much of a surprise though, coming from Mettaton, but he's all smiles when he sees the man.]

Cullen! It's good to see you. I thought for sure this party would be a bit too much for you to handle.

[No offense meant, truly, but not everyone can be glittering stars like him.]

[ Cullen tenses, the way he does with anyone who makes their common ground for conversation feel thin. Months, and Mettaton's world is still a mystery to him. Not that he's made great efforts to remedy that.

--He can think of worse company. His greeting is friendly enough to match. ]

Ah. Hello again. [ Did get it in one, didn't he? ] You're not wrong, but I-- [ --promised, for one. And wouldn't refuse Garrett even an Orlesian ball if he asked. ] I've had worse. This is almost comfortable.

[He doesn't know a lot about Cullen, personally, but his entire persona that he has garnered over their interactions practically screams discomfort in situations like this.]

I'm sorry to hear you've had worse. Was that here or back home?

At home- in Thedas, anyway. [ He corrects, rather than amends. He understands the meaning, but Orlais is not home, no matter how far from it he may be. ] Here they almost count as reprieve, compared to all else Wonderland puts us through.

Well.

He exhales, and makes an effort to sound less put out by the circumstances. He did attend willingly, after all. And with good reason. He sneaks a look at Garrett from across the room. ]

--I don't mean to sound so. Ah. Dissatisfied, truthfully the occasions here have given me little to complain.

[Mettaton nods a little. Ah yes. The Demon Place, full of demons.]

Oh definitely. I'd take a beautiful party full of beautiful people than risk getting eaten by whatever new horror Wonderland has ripped out of some poor sucker's head.

[The way he says the first part heavily implies that both he and Cullen are a part of this "beautiful people" club and when Cullen glances to the side Mettaton follows his gaze with his own. Another person included in the club, from the looks of it. He looks back to Cullen with just the smallest of glints in his eyes.]

Everyone has their own opinions of things, darling. If everyone loved the same things, this world would get pretty boring pretty fast. Variety is the spice of life and all that.
