Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:

[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering décor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

Bars flank each side, service for all manner of alcohol unless a minor requests something, and the primary setting stage features an enormous clock for the countdown. ]




[ Where will you be when the clock strikes midnight? ]

You'd hate my brother's music, then. [ She'd probably hate Sam's more, because his taste in music is modern garbage. ]

You should. I'm sure she'd appreciate it. [ He glances around but doesn't catch sight of the host. More than likely, she's busied herself with - well, hosting. ]

... Interested in a dance? [ Sam asks, after a pause. ] We can put the glasses down for a minute without risk of losing them. Probably.

[geiger]

[ She shrugs at that, looking a little sheepish at her lack of cultural knowledge. ] I'm sure some of its great. I guess I need to find the right tunes.

[ She takes another sip before putting her glass down. ] A dance would be great.

[ofletters]

Well, maybe we can find something you like. And you can introduce me to some of the stuff you listen to.

[ Sam's pretty open about music that way, unlike someone he knows. ]

Alright. [ He cracks a smile, setting down his own drink and extending a hand. ] Now?

[geiger]

Hell yes, now. This is a good tune. [ She takes his offered hand, following him out onto the dance floor. ]

[ofletters]

[ And off they go! Sam will try not to look too nervous, or like he hasn't danced in eons. ]

So, uh... you know this song?

[geiger]

Yeah, this was one of-- [ She catches herself before she can say one of Nate's favourites and begins again. ] I used to have the record of this one.

[ofletters]

[ He hears the hesitation, but either doesn't think anything of it or just doesn't ask. ]

Do you still have records around? Here, I mean.

[ They're easily available, after all. ]

[geiger]

Mm-hmm. [ She focuses on the dancing, swinging them around almost effortlessly. ] I got a record player from the closet. It's been fickle with what records it wants to give me, though.

[ofletters]

It'll do that. [ Not just with records, obviously. ] Glad you at least got the record player, though, and not a walkman.

[ For example. ]

I got two dogs out of mine, once, but it didn't let me be picky about breeds. [ Not that he minds. ]

[geiger]

A walk-man? [ She tilts her head to one side, confused. ] That sounds like gym equipment.

[ Her eyes light up as he mentions the dogs. ] Did you keep them? I miss my dog, but I know any one I pulled out of the closet wouldn't replace him.
