[NYE Party] happy new year and lots of fun

Who: EVERYONE, but especially you!
Where: Wonderland Ballroom
When: New Year's Eve
Rating: PG - PG13 (will change if applicable)
Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:

[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering dΓ©cor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

Bars flank each side, service for all manner of alcohol unless a minor requests something, and the primary setting stage features an enormous clock for the countdown.

[ Where will you be when the clock strikes midnight? ]

[ Tell her about it.

Or, rather, don't. Dancing around it is bad enough. She'd hate to tell Peggy about how Peggy's crush from seventy years ago in Sharon's time and just a couple years ago in Peggy's kissed Sharon under an overpass, and how they had seen each other in Wonderland and never spoken about it - had barely spoken at all - for a year. If it had been someone other than her great-aunt's crush, it would only have been a little humiliating. As it is, it's a little more complicated than that.

Talking about The Shining is far more preferable. It's less of a minefield. ]

One of the classic horror films. I've only seen bits and pieces myself, but there's a movie theatre here we can use... Maybe some other people would be interested in seeing it, too.

A horror film.

[ alright, she's got nothing against horror. not exactly. victorian gothic (next to pulpy action) used to be just about the only thing she'd read outside of what the school curriculum forced on her, as a schoolgirl.

See, I've never been one for cinema.

[ One look at Peggy's face, one second of listening to her tone, and Sharon suddenly finds the tablecloth very, very interesting. She could laugh, but it seems rude enough that she's trying not to. ]

Mm-hmm.

[ Her lips pressed tight together, she takes a deep breath through her nose. ]

I can understand why you wouldn't like horror movies, but really? No cinema at all?

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm teetotal when it comes to films but -- look, Sharon, the vast majority are kind of rubbish. [ silly, dull, with damsels everywhere. ] There are other ways I'd rather spend my free time.

[ Sharon looks at her in vague surprise for a moment. She's trying to remember what Peggy did in her free time back home, but then, Peggy had been keeping the world safe or keeping up with things until the dementia had set in. Not that it matters - that Peggy isn't this Peggy. There's a seventy-year distance between them.

It just reinforces the idea that Sharon doesn't know Peggy - this Peggy - nearly as well as she thought. And frighteningly, she's not sure she knew her aunt in her own time as well. ]

So what do you like to do for fun?

[ once upon a time, a dear friend asked her whether she field-stripped rifles for relaxation. and he wasn't far off the mark in asking so. but she'd balked at his implication back then and she shies from suggesting it now. ]

-- I've started doing Sudoku. [ tony gave her a book. she's been loving it. ]
