[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering dΓ©cor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

[ It's a good thing he clarifies because she almost grabs a bottle of champagne. But she gets a bottle of water and obediently follows him, holding up the train of her dress so she won't trip on it. ]

Can you tell me this? Tell me this. Is it okay to lie to your wife? Ever? Ever, about anything.

[ oh lord. he is the wrong person to ask that, as he kept many a things from kate... but he also wasn't married to her. well, he wasn't married-married to her, anyway. just common law assumption according to the laws of some states and territories. and the lies that he told were all tales that were not his to tell; things wyatt shared with him and dealings with the law that he was not at liberty to share with anyone. and that relationship was tumultuous from start to finish. it's really not something to compare to anything or hold to standard. ]

That can be tricky, but generally speakin'... I suppose not. Marriage is about trust as much as it is about love. If you cannot trust this person you have wed yourself to, why did you even do so in the first place? Now, that's not to say that some secrets aren't necessary or even mandated, but somethin' tells me you are not talkin' about that sort of truth bein' withheld.

[ unless she is, then he's off his marker. but he never claimed to be an expert in relationships. especially romantic ones. he's going to lead the way out of the mansion anyway, let her blow off that steam like he promised. ]

[ Jane's quiet until they're far away from the ballroom, furrowing her forehead together. She married Kurt because she trusted him, because she loves him. Because he was her starting point when the world was blank and she didn't know who she was or what had happened to her. They had their moments, but the love had always been there even if trust, at times, was questionable. It hadn't been enough to dissuade her from marrying him over two years ago now.

All of this thought is happening in her head, but she finally speaks out loud. ]

He didn't tell me I had a baby. I can't remember it, because of my memory, but I had one. I was sixteen. And he knew. But he pretended he didn't know when I finally knew. Because he accidentally killed her.

[ Her life is so fucking messy and the explanation isn't helping much because of how drunk she is. ]
