[ This woman is clearly very intoxicated, and Snow gently puts a hand on her lower back, leaning in to point at a table. ]
Will you come sit with me? I know we don't know each other, but I don't want to sit alone and have anyone giving me looks of pity.
[ She smiles softly, trying to seem completely innocent, which is pretty easy for her, let's be honest. ]
no subject
'Course. Happy to help.
[ She follows Snow to the table and sits heavily, taking a shot. ]
'm not usually like this.
no subject
What are you usually like? You certainly seem...full of libation this evening, that's for certain.
no subject
Usually, I'm...happy. Happy and not drunk and with my husband. But I can't be with him right now. Because he hurt...he broke me.
no subject
Your husband hurt you? Are you safe? Do we need to get you some place else?
[ She's completely misunderstood, but worrying is what she does best. ]
no subject
No. No, he didn't, he'd never. He lied. He lied to me. About my baby.
no subject
Is your name Jane Weller?
no subject
Yes. Have we met? Do you know me? Are you from my past?
no subject
No, but I met your husband here. In Wonderland. He was...in a similar state as you are now, very upset and angry that he hurt you.
[ Her voice is gentle, attempting to be soothing. ]
I'm so sorry for your loss, Jane.
no subject
I didn't even know her. How can I be so upset, when I can't even remember her?
[ Jane's voice breaks as she looks down, wanting to fall apart now. ]
no subject
[ Snow is sitting closer now, rubbing Jane's back in soothing circles. ]
It was all a terrible accident, but you have a right to feel the way you do.
no subject
[ Now, the floodgates open and she cries, covering her mouth with one hand. ]
I feel like I can't breathe, I don't...I can't...figure out what to do.
no subject
If you love him, eventually, the hurt will come to a point where...where you can see past it. And you can see this in a new way. But I think you already know maybe, on some level, that this was all a terrible, terrible accident. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt you.
no subject
[ That's the real pain, the fact that her husband hid something from her this way. ]
no subject
[ Gently, she nudges a bottle of water closer, but doesn't say anything about drinking it yet. ]
Have you thought about why he lied, exactly? What did he tell you?
no subject
I've been so angry I didn't...stop to think about it.
[ Swallowing, Jane wipes at her eyes. ]
He said he didn't want to lose me. Or hurt me. And he knew he'd do both.
no subject
[ Snow's firm on that, even if she can separate it enough in her mind to comfort Kurt as well. ]
But the love he has for you and his fear of losing you outweighed everything. You keep him tethered, Jane. You keep him whole. I think if he lost you, he would feel like less of a person. And so he kept something horrible from you that he thought would make you both shatter. Was he right?
[ She asks that gently as well, rubbing Jane's back slowly. ]
no subject
He was right. But that doesn't change it. Are you married? What...what would you do?
no subject
I am married. And my husband has lied to me before. But I've also nearly lost him before, we've both been so close to death, and we've both lost so much. I had to decide if it was worth it. To throw away something because David was trying to spare my heart or give me hope or...whatever it is that he thought he was doing to help me. I love him, and I know he loves me, that his intent has never been to bring any harm to me whatsoever. Maybe that's what you need to think about and decide for yourself, Jane.
