Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:

[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering décor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

Bars flank each side, service for all manner of alcohol unless a minor requests something, and the primary setting stage features an enormous clock for the countdown. ]

I suppose asking about it would be a bit like skipping ahead in the storybook.

I'm afraid I know exactly how much I want to know -- [ that is, all of it. she's not shy on that front. ] But it's been brought to my attention on more than one occasion that a want like that isn't necessarily a good thing.

It's a tough pill to swallow for -- [ well, a spy. ] For all sorts of reasons.

Well, there's wants and there's wants. Sometimes you want things that you know you don't really want.

Still. I'm hoping a bit of curiosity won't turn into too much a sin. It's hard not to learn new things. Damn near every day, something crops up.

I imagine that depends on what the specific curiosity is. Obviously, I'd encourage some of it. When you're ready to find out who David Bowie is...

[They might not mean exactly the same thing, but they're going the same direction with the conversation at least.]

I may very well take you up on that offer, Ms. Romanoff. [ the one unspoken, lurking there underneath their words. but not tonight. ]

For now? I suppose it's fitting that we don't venture too far outside the theme.

[ she smiles at a burst of warm trumpet in the soundtrack. ]

I'm afraid you're on your own -- on that count, at least. [ her look sweetly apologetic. ] Couldn't even begin to tell you who would step our your toes and who wouldn't.

[ well. apart from one name -- but she's the possessive sort and won't share his nimble feet and clean lines with anyone. if she has her way about it, at any rate. ]

But there are a startling number of dress uniforms in play tonight. Perhaps you can start with one of them.

So I've noticed. I suppose I'll have to see what I can find. Though when you put it that way, makes me sound like a chaser.
