Sparring Facility Mingle Post
Who: Sparring facility mingle post
Where: Sparring facility (Room 117), shooting range at the beach
When: Throughout the months of February & March
Rating: G. If that changes, I'll update!
Summary: Sparring & self-defense lessons for anyone who wants to learn, teach, and spar
The Story:
No matter what is going on in Wonderland, whether there are events or nothing at all, Sharon maintains the sparring facility in room 117. The room is small, quiet, and unassuming, the sort of place that feels intimate whether there's one person or twenty. The lights overhead are bright. The four large, blue mats are clean, and a line of wooden dummies stand in a line at the back of the room, ready to be beaten by whoever so dares.
Anyone is welcome there at any time, either to practice moves (whether the moves are fighting or dancing for those who need a padded floor, it's all good). If anyone wants to sign up for lessons, there's a clipboard nailed in the hall beside the entrance listing courses and teachers. For the most part, though, lessons are relaxed and informal.
Sharon tries to be in the sparring facility as much as possible, but with other residents of Wonderland using the space, too, there are likely people there whether Sharon is there or not.
So if you care for a lesson, or just to punch one of the dummies in the back, feel free to stop by. Learn a little, let off a little steam.
Hit stuff.
Please note that the sign that used to be on the door, the one that loudly proclaimed "NO DAMON ALLOWED" has been removed. Alas, poor Damon. We knew him, Horatio. Obviously, we knew him. Hence the sign. But we mourn his absence nonetheless.
((OOC: Anyone can ping in under the comment thread/class. If you want to learn something, hit up the comment thread, and a teacher (maybe more than one) will get back to you. If you want to teach something, hit up the comment thread and students can attend your class! Just mark if you're there to teach or to learn!))
((OOC, Part II: Billy!mun and I have been talking about combining the training center & sparring facility, but any of those changes will be reflected in the next sparring mingle post. So mingle away!))

ARCHERY
Down at the range, there's more than just shooting guns - you can also shoot wooden sticks!
Pfft. You've heard about Robin Hood. You've heard about the Green Arrow and Hawkeye - or have you? Eh, either way, you know archers are badass.
Teachers include: Cissie King-Jones
Cissie's mun is on hiatus until March 1st, so if your character wants to learn archery and doesn't get a response from Cissie right away, that's why.
BLADES
But it isn't a horror movie. It's worse. It's Wonderland. Which means that you never know when you'll have to know how to use those weapons. So if you've ever wanted to cut somebody, here's where you can learn how to follow through!
Teachers include: Undyne
FIREARMS
Teaches include: Sharon Carter; Tim Drake; Wynonna Earp; Daisy Johnson; Evelyn O'Connell; Shepard
anybody wanna teach a teen boy hold a gun?
Now that he's here, though, he finally feels the jitters of both excitement and nervousness. ]
...Hey, 'm totally new with this, d'ya mind showing me the way?
[ He sure hopes coming empty-handed will be fine. ]
(insert musical note here) Another super late reply (and a musical note here, too)
Hi! Sure thing. Here, try this. [ She picks up a pistol from a table nearby. ] This is a Glock 19. It's reliable in a pinch, so it's good for self-defense during events around here. [ She turns the pistol. ] This is the safety. Before I turn that off, though, there are four major rules to follow when dealing with guns.
The first: Never, ever point it at someone unless you're prepared to shoot. Second. Always keep the muzzle turned in a safe direction where it won't hurt anyone. Third. Always treat a gun as if it's loaded. Not doing so increases the possibility of mistakes. And fourth: Never put your finger on the trigger unless you're actively shooting.
[ She nods over to the headphones and safety glasses. ] Ready to give it a go?
;sdkfl DAMN but hello!!!11 sorry for the late too...
Glock 19...
[ He repeats, eyes following her clearly experienced movements.
It's the first time he sees a gun up close like this, he'll use this chance to observe carefully. Growing up he always thought that whoever fights with weapons aren't 'manly enough', but being in Wonderland really has taught him a good lesson that being physically strong isn't everything. With occasional nods and hum to her instructions, he tries to repeat those rules in his head, it's his way of memorising things. ]
...? Oh, yeah.
[ Right, safety equipment. That's also something he fails to follow through back home ー well, even here too, actually. He won't wear helmets when he rides motorcycle because... well, his hair is one reason, but also it just feels like a spineless act. He knows deep down that it's for his own safety, it's just. His codes, dumb as it sounds.
He'll at least listen to this one, though, after all this one's not his territory. Immediately, he puts on the glasses and picks the headphone up. ]
I'm ready.
[ Just... not putting it on yet until she's done speaking. He doesn't wanna miss any details given! ]
SELF-DEFENSE
Either way, learning self-defense can keep you alive.
So hit the mats and prepare yourself to learn some moves and tricks to repeat ad nauseam until they seep into your muscle memory. You may not become an Olympic karate expert, but you might survive. And isn't that what life is about? Until it isn't, of course. But until then...

someone teach her
But that's not going to cut it here, she suspects. So, she arrives at room 117, wearing pretty standard gym clothes and sneakers, her hair pulled back in a ponytail. She feels a little out of place, and possibly looks it, too, but she's determined. ]
I hear this is the place to go if I want to learn to throw a punch.
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper late reply hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
So Pepper does stand out, and not just because Sharon recognizes her. Pepper stands out because she's new, because she doesn't appear entirely comfortable.
But that discomfort won't last if Sharon has anything to do with it. She steps forward with a bright smile. ]
Ms. Potts. Sharon Carter. You heard right. Any previous experience?
