Food and Fun - OPEN Gathering!

Who: Everyone!
Where: Outside on the grounds, near the gardens
When: Saturday, August 11th
Rating: G! If you take it to an extreme sexy or extreme sad place, please warn in the subject line!
Summary: Liv and Papyrus host Wonderland's Inagural Inter-planetary Fod Festival!
The Story:

The stage has been set for everyone to have food from all over time and space, and Liv is possibly a little more excited about this than she should be. Her message with Papyrus didn't seem to drum up a ton of interest when they made their announcement, but she's hoping like hell this actually goes somewhere.

There's a table with Sharpie pens and little cards to write the name of the dish, main ingredients, and where it came from (plus the bringer's dish if they want) and three huge coolers filled with ice and various drinks like bottled water, juice boxes, soda, and beer for the adults (that one's labeled on top). Cutlury, napkins, and cups are taken care of! There's also music playing, the equivalent to what might as well be a random Pandora station not set on one specific genre of music. It easily goes from an Adele song to the Spice Girls and back around to something by Adam Lavine.

All that's really left, is for Liv to sit back and enjoy the day.

[ OOC: This is, obviously, a gathering post! Please top level, tag around, and have fun! ]

[ Leslie looks up at the new face and dutifully puts down her device to give her undivided attention. ]

If we can't get rollercoasters, then I'll settle for bouncy houses and games. Rocket's the talking...animals, right?

[ Is it racist to call him a raccoon? Should she refer to him as 'he?' Wonderland gives her so many new problems to think up, yeesh. ]

We might not have gotten off on the right foot, but maybe I can talk him into it.

[Talking animal isn't very specific, but Georgia gets what she means. She's clearly met Rocket, called him a raccoon, and gotten in trouble.]

The talking alien who bears a strong resemblance to an Earth raccoon, yes. I recommend appealing to his ego.

Wait, so he's not an actual raccoon?

[ This is news to her; he never actually clarified, so what was she supposed to keep thinking?? Maybe this is part of why he keeps getting upset that people call him a raccoon. ]

So, aliens from other planets look like Earth's wild and sometimes rabid animal population?
choosetruth: (we'll be ready to fight us a war)

At least one does.

[Considering what Georgia knows of Rocket's past, specifically, the mad science parts, she wouldn't be surprised if at some point he had been a normal, Earth raccoon. But that's absolutely not something that's hers to share.]

Besides his face and tail, he really isn't much like a raccoon anyway. They don't walk upright like that, and, obviously, they don't generally talk. Or build giant guns and pilot space ships.

The thing about raccoons where I'm from is that they are an invasive species. So, when that was one of the first things I saw it was purely reactionary and not because I'm here to judge one not-quite-raccoon person on his features.

[ And yes, she does feel bad about the fact that she did, initially. ]

I apologized, but I think I need to do something else. What does he like?
choosetruth: (carrying the banner through it all)

[Georgia nods. She is a lot more sympathetic than she looks. It's an easy mistake to make, and it sucks for Rocket, but if he couldn't forgive people for calling him a raccoon, he wouldn't have any friends.]

Like I said, appeal to his ego. He'll like it if you ask him to help build things, especially if you throw in some compliments to his work. [She adjusts her sunglasses, looking dryly amused.] Your other options are bring him either a really big gun or someone's prosthetic limb.

[But she's guessing those are less feasible options.]

Okay, well, a gun could work, I don't know about artificial arms and legs - used?? But I can definitely ask him to build something.

[ The wheels are already turning. ]

I think I even already have an idea. Thanks for the advice! I'm Leslie, by the way.

Georgia Mason. I'm the resident journalist. [Not the only one, perhaps, but certainly the loudest. She wouldn't know what to do with herself if she weren't making trouble.] You must be on the newer side, correct?

Nice to meet you!

[ Even if her run-ins with the press in the past have been less than uh...positive. ]

I am, yes. I think it's been around two weeks now. How long have you been here?
choosetruth: (tell those with power safe in their towe)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2018-08-22 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Altogether? Almost two years. But I did just take a trip home and arrived back about a week ago. So I guess it depends how you look at it.

Do...people go back and return a lot? Or was that the first time for you?

[ As much as people have tried to tell her, not everything has really been clear. ]
choosetruth: (you're getting too old)

[personal profile] choosetruth 2018-09-02 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if I'd call it "a lot," but it's certainly a regular enough occurrence. [She frowns slightly under her sunglasses.] People say we're trapped here, but it's a little more complicated than that. Sometimes Wonderland lets us go, either temporarily or permanently.

So, we're semi-trapped in that we can't actually leave when we want to, but sometimes Wonderland decides to kick us out. I wonder what makes that happen?

[ Not that she wants to start following this thread too closely, but she can't help but be curious. ]

And I'm guessing there's no real pattern to it.
