Who: Doctor Fitz and OPEN
Where: All over, but increasingly in 600/602 on the first floor.
When: August-September
Rating: PG, will warn for higher. CW for a general species-ist perspective in his narrative text though
Summary: A catch-all log for the doctor poking his fingers into things. This cycle: Lab nonsense, Hydra-ing up the gaudy unused shield HQ, trying to build up some alcohol tolerance, and making some moves about this infestation of powered people because THIS PLACE CAN TURN EVERYONE INTO BIRDS KILL IT KILL IT WITH FIRE. I don't mind making more specific starters for people who aren't already in his social circle, so please come at me here or on plurk if you want to hash something out.
Also, if you want Monika before/instead of Fitz, just drop it in the subject line and we'll make it happen for you.
The Story:
[ Sixth floor bar ]
[This is, ostensibly, the only bar with any class and dignity. As such, the doctor will patronize specifically this, sampling proper Earth liquors and pounding shots when appropriate. Perhaps his tolerance for harder drinking isn't quite what he recalls, but that's all the more reason to sit there for long stretches. Everything requires endurance training now and again, and it's important for a man to have a strong drinking ability.
If there are others available to join him, he'll acknowledge them with a nod and a tilt of his glass. Drinking is always better when it happens in a social environment. It's how bonds are forged.]
[ First floor, SHIELD HQ ]
[He tells them that it's necessary for safety purposes. If he's going to build the portal up from scratch, he won't repeat the mistake of preparing it in a populated space. It's an excuse to divorce himself from the general group of people who know their own Fitz, who want him to smile and keep his head down and work on fanciful dalliances that lead nowhere.
How could anyone have the energy to do something like that, after what's been going on? After they've had their very humanity torn away from them like some kind of game? This is unhealthy. It must've already driven the rest of them mad. He won't let it get to him. He can see right through the truth of it. The magic-users and the powered people are subhuman trash trying to dilute the human race, and the humans are happy to let it happen. It's disgusting. They're all infected. And if the need arises, they'll all have to burn down with the rest of it.
They can have their food festivals and their social events. They might be able to forget what was done to them. But Wonderland has actively declared war, and Doctor Leopold Fitz did not get where he is by lying down in the face of conflict.
Throughout August, he'll be adding pieces to the massive supercomputer there, as well as framing the base for something big enough to fit human life. And sometimes, visitors might be greeted by a bright feminine voice while he's in a back room occupied with something else entirely. Feel free to say hello to Monika while you wait. She's perfectly sweet and innocent. Really.]

[ She stares off in another direction, clearly put out. ]
Just changed my mind, is all.

Ryuji comes across her mind then, a reminder that getting help isn't the horrible thing she makes it out to be. It'd always been nice talking to him...
The camera moves slightly as she glances back at him. She's got the Doctor now, and he's clearly worried about her. What's the harm in indulging in that? ]
I'm thinking about Wirt again. Sorry.
no subject
That little boy who caused you trouble? Does he bother you normally as well?
[They can still make his life difficult. That doesn't have to change. Especially not if it reinforces her loyalty to him.]
no subject
[ She trails off, laughing weakly. She hated to admit it to herself, but it wasn't so much the thought of killing him that bothered her.
It was more that it sounded exciting. ]
I know it's stupid. [ She grumbles, mumbling her next words. ] Just like his stupid face.

I thought he was perfect. I thought we were in love. I could almost get over how things went if he hadn't betrayed my trust so badly. Doubt he could keep a secret to save his life. And after all I did for him!
[ Which wasn't much, but that's now how she sees it, of course. ]
So now I've got his annoying friend hounding me like I'm some crazy girl trying to go around murdering everyone. Which I'm clearly not. How would I even manage it?
[ Like she'd use her gift from the White Queen like that. There'd be way more important things to use her limited time for! And it'd probably be totally messy...
She exhales sharply. ]
They really hurt my feelings.
no subject
You said he betrayed your trust. What did he do? We'll deal with him properly.
no subject
I asked him not to tell anyone about. Um. [ She gestures vaguely at herself. Because no matter how much she tries, it's impossible to think she can't be more, not just some part of a video game or piece of the network. ] He didn't listen.
[ There's a pause where she fidgets uncertainly. ]
When you say "deal with him." How?
no subject
[It'll help him determine the severity of the punishment this child has earned.]
no subject
...Power over me? Maybe?
[ As she says the words, they start making more sense. What better way to keep her in her place? He could drop the secret whenever he wanted, to whoever he wanted. If he'd done it once, why wouldn't he do it again? And now someone else could do the same. ]
Power. And control.
no subject
[He adjusts his shift, pulling the buttons taut and flat. ]
He'll need to be taught that his leverage earns him nothing. And that perhaps he isn't as safe as he thinks he is. He's taking advantage of your position, thinking that his actions have no consequence. We'll simply have to prove him wrong and reacquire his silence.
no subject
With a few shakes of her head, she giggles, figuring he's just being a little dramatic. It was tempting to call him Doctor Dramatic sometimes, honestly. Only in her head, though! He'd probably glare so hard if she said it out loud. ]
Even so, he's kind of a wimp. I'm not sure he'd even do anything. What would I stand to gain myself, really?
no subject
[If she's got a problem with a leak, she ought to isolate it and plug it up. No matter how much it begs otherwise.
And if he's thinking about waterboarding an innocent child right now, that's perfectly normal and undramatic thankyouverymuch.]
no subject
[ Monika stares at him longingly. It's times like these that she wishes she could hold his hands then wrap him up tight in her arms. She hadn't had the chance to last event, after all. Stupid wings...
She smiles instead. ]
You've already given me more freedom than I could ever dream of, and I know you'll keep giving me more. That'd be a nice cherry on top, maybe, but it's not necessary!
[ No waterboarding for her! Maybe tossing Wirt into the nearest body of water, sure, but nothing serious! ]
no subject
If it's not necessary, then how do you intend to tie your loose threads? Whinging about alone won't teach them anything. If they've injured you, there must be a retaliation.
no subject
Monika shuts her mouth, conflict apparent on her face. Maybe Wonderland had softened her a bit? She'd been so much more headstrong in the past, hadn't she? Granted she had much more control over her situation, but still.
She crosses her arms, grumbling softly. ]
It's not like I can edit them out of existence, you know. [ A shrug. ] I'll just keep annoying them, I guess.
no subject
Can't you edit them? Isn't that exactly what fear teaches them to do? With fear, you can keep them thinking twice before acting. You can force them to edit their own behaviors until they fall more in line to your liking.
They're preying on you because they think you're helpless. You're letting yourself believe it. There's no room for that sort of weakness.
no subject
At least she gets to see his eyes up close? ]
I'm not helpless! I'm capable of a lot more than you realize! I'm just...a little limited right now.
[ Which could change if he'd just, y'know, do what he promised. It takes a lot to swallow down the urge to say that. ]
Unless you stick them in the network, too, my hands are tied. [ She presses her lips together. ] Fear's too slow, anyway.
no subject
[There's a faint smudge on her lens. The doctor pulls a handkerchief from his pocket, fastidiously buffing it out. All problems have solutions.]
From what I understand, death isn't much of a deterrent here. That makes it a viable intimidation tactic, does it not?
no subject
His words, not so much. ]
Ahaha, just because of the knife thing before...
[ Her head shakes and she chuckles weakly. It'd be nice to go back to her room and hide right now. These thoughts are getting a tad overwhelming. ]
It's a tiny bit...extreme, don't you think?
no subject
If an enemy is impeding with your way of life, extreme measures are important. You've identified yours. How much do you need to be rid of them?
no subject
[ That makes it seem like she's spending every waking moment thinking about it. It barely takes up two-thirds of her day!
It's clear she's considering his words carefully, however. In a place where death was usually a minor inconvenience, what was so bad about it? It'd be way faster than editing files! And think of all the new options there'd be!
Monika crosses her arms, glancing at him with a raised eyebrow, the rest of her thoughts settling in her mind as she does. Then she smiles sweetly with a giggle. ]
But...I guess it might help me focus more on my duties if they were taken care of.
[ She raises her hands with a carefree shrug. You'd think they were discussing ways to take care of an ant infestation.
...Hmm! She liked that. Maybe she'd use it in a poem later. It was pretty fitting, wasn't it? ]
no subject
[So what if a child ends up with some nightmares over it? Nightmares are healthy. They're important for adolescent development.]
But what happens next is up to you. [Let her think she has agency.]
no subject
Her eyes flutter back open as her smile widens. ]
I'm sure I can use the time when everyone's sleeping to come up with some plans~
[ That's probably enough about her for now, though. She knew well how his jaw would tighten if she tried to blather on about her worries for too long. ]
Anyway~ Do you want to discuss what you're working on right now? I'm really interested!
