[Open] Life doesn't discriminate Between the sinners and the saints
Who: Steve Rogers and YOU
Where: Starting on the beach and then around the mansion
When: Saturday 10/20
Rating: PG13?
Summary: Steve is back from home, slightly beat up and looking a little worse for the wear
The Story:
[ One minute he's fighting in Wakanda, over run by Thanos' army, literally. He's on his back on the ground and he's got at least five on top of him that he's struggling to shrug off. The next thing he knows the weight is off him and thats the Bifrost and lightening raining down on the plains of Wakanda. Thor is alive, and thats the biggest relief Steve has felt in two days.
He doesn't even have time for that to sink in before he's blinking and he's definitely not in Wakanda anymore. He's on a beach, sitting on the sand just out of the reach of the water laping at the shore. It all comes back in an instant. Wonderland. He lets out a frustrated noise as he lifts himself up. It had to pull him back right then? In the middle of everything? Right when everything is hanging in the balance? When he doesn't have answers for the questions he knows he'll face.
He sighs and making his way back up to the mansion, theres nothing he can do about it now. But he could use a shower, and a change of clothes. And then there's some people he needs to talk to. He looks like he's been through a war, and he'll probably turn some heads as he heads up to the ninth floor. It might take him a little longer than anticipated. ]

Closed to Claire
So he shows up Sunday with a box of shortbread cookies in hand hoping she's in her room when he knocks. ]

Still, she steps out instead of inviting him in. ]
Are you all right?
[ She looks at him, noting the ways he's changed, trying to see any signs that he isn't. ]
no subject
I'm alright, can't say this place chose a good time to pull me back but, not much I can do about it here.
[ He holds out the box of cookies. ] Happy Birthday, a day late. I'm sorry I missed it. How are you doing?
no subject
You return from everything at home and remember my birthday? I have to say, I'm touched. Thank you, Steve.
[ At his question, she takes a breath and lets it out a sort of half-smile on her face because this is a good thing, but an odd thing. ]
I'm all right. Nothing's changed, really, concerning...
[ Her murder and he murderer. ]
...well, you know. But in the meantime, my husband is...he's here. Badly injured which is why we're talking out here, but. He's here.

[ She's one of two people he can say that to. He's glad nothing has changed, if only because that means she's been safe while he was gone, he would have felt terrible if something had happened when he wasn't there to help her.
He's not expecting her to say her husband is back, but if he's surprised he doesn't show it. Just concern that he's hurt. ]
How badly? Do you two need anything?
no subject
At least we're not the oldest here.
[ At least three people she knows has them beat. ]
Still, that's not a bad club if you and I head it.
[ She gestures for him to walk with her, needing to stretch her legs anyway. ]
His femoral artery was knicked in battle. Not enough to make him die quickly. He was bleeding out, slowly dying, and he arrived on the bedroom floor. I've fixed the wound and he's recovering well. But he's stubborn and in a bit of pain. He's out now, the miracle of modern medicine and painkillers. And...
[ She pauses clearing her throat. ]
He's from twenty years in my past.

Being confines to bed is never easy.
[ Twenty years from her past? That’s, well that must be a shock for both of them. ]
So before you went back to the future, or when you were still with him in the past?

[ Claire lets out a soft breath. ]
Then the fighting began, and then he woke up here. Which means he still has to go through so much when - if - he leaves. I'm not sure how to prepare him for it, if I can. And then there's the matter of telling him what happened to me.
[ She knows Steve will understand what she's speaking of - not anything that happened to her back home, but in Wonderland. ]

The other part is harder. ]
In my experience keeping things a secret never work out the way you want them to. Even if you think you’re protecting a person. [ He learned that the very hard way, and he lost a friend in the process. ]

[ She goes quiet for a moment, then shakes her head. ]
The last things I want to happen is for him to find out during or because of an event. He's going to want to do something about it, Steve. I'm not sure I could keep him from it.
no subject
Do you want to?

We've both done necessary things to save one another. Whether our physical selves or our souls.
[ She pauses before adding her true answer. ]
I wouldn't stop him.
