She's missed him, and that was a strange thing to realize. It wasn't the same as the crushing weight of Frank being gone, but a different sense of loss, knowing that the person who loved her before she was even much in her mother's belly, was suddenly gone. She wants to know him, and she didn't want to have to start all over again.

So, she's been reassured by her mother that he'll be back and remember her, and that has to be enough while she waits.

The knock doesn't surprise her but his voice does, and she opens the door, looking at him and immediately realizing he's older, he's her father now, truly, someone who's lived 20 years wondering about her. Without hesitation she wraps her arms around him, hugging him as she closes her eyes tightly. She doesn't even know what to say yet, she's just glad he's back.
