Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore | OPEN

Who: E V E R Y O N E (Including our 4th wall guests!)
Where: Everywhere, one both Mirror and Real Side!
When: December 12th - December 18th (WEEK ONE)
Rating: PG-13, warn if going higher
Summary: This year's Ewaymas celebration rolls out the way it usually does, with intense decorating, a sudden snowfall and...far more arrivals than usual! New faces and old fill the mansion - but why would Wonderland bring so many people at once? And why do some of them remember Wonderland?
The Story:

On the evening before December 12th, the captives of Wonderland might be awoken by a loud commotion. Some of it is typical Ewaymas noise, likely familiar to anyone who has been in Wonderland for more than a year – construction sounds and jingle bells as Wonderland decks its own halls quite literally. Garland and lights race down the walls and down the stairs, and stockings appear on the walls for each and every person in Wonderland, embroidered with their names. There are decorative candles everywhere, and all sorts of decorations for every conceivable winter holiday, even if it does not align perfectly to the dates of Ewaymas. Time isn't real, so there will be menorahs and dreidels and Star of Davids even though Hanukkah ended two days prior. And of course, in the front hall, growing straight out of the floor, is a large decorated tree full of ornaments for everyone. And as always, it will have snowed heavily overnight, bringing all of the snow Wonderland will have between now and spring.

There is a second source of commotion in the night though – the sound of a crowd.

Over the course of the night, dozens of new arrivals will appear in Wonderland. Some for the first time. Some wondering how they managed to return with their memories. Others stumbling in with no recollection of ever having been here. Some might be friends from other timelines, other possibilities, and some might even be doubles of people who are already in Wonderland. It's strange for Wonderland to drag so many people into the mansion at once, but everything seems to indicate that they are supposed to be there. They have their own network devices and even have their own stockings on the wall and their own ornaments on the tree – by all accounts, it seems Wonderland expects that they'll be staying, and is treating them like any other new arrivals. Please, make them feel at home and help them settle in nicely.

The first few days will be for catching up with old friends and enjoying the decorations and settling into Wonderland. However, within a couple of days the decorations will start to glitch, much the way corrupted computer graphics might. Lights might change abruptly from multi-color to blue or white, entire décor styles will abruptly change, candle flames will flicker on and off like broken fluorescent lights, and any singing decorations might loop on a beat or two over and over putting you into an eternal hell. Wonderland doesn't seem to be able to stick to one motif, and it can't stop changing. These glitches are occurring on both the Real Side of Wonderland and the Mirror Side.

By the 15th, these glitches will include entire rooms changing into different holiday scenes. These scenes will all be of characters at various winter holidays in the past, the present (in their world), or a possible future. At this point in the event, characters will still be able to navigate the basic mansion and be able to exit these moments easily. These scenes cannot be interacted with – Wonderland seems to consider them another form of decorating. Unlike previous events of this type, these scenes will not loop at first. They will play once, and then Wonderland will glitch and correct itself to be the room it is supposed to be. The scene might play again, but it will be in a different location if it does.

By this point, Wonderland is having an increasingly difficult time holding itself together in a way that makes geographical sense. You might exit one room, even a room that was not previously playing a scene, and find yourself in the kitchen or on the roof instead of in the hallway. You might open a door that you were sure led to your room only to see a ten foot drop to the grounds outside.

This is the mingle log for WEEK ONE! For more information on this part of the event or any questions, please head over to the plot post, or check out our Fourth Wall Master Post for your other Fourth Wall event needs! Prose or [action brackets] are welcome. Please clearly indicate whether your character is on the Real Side or Mirror Side in your top levels. And of course, have fun! ♥

Oh, those types. [Molly pulls up a chair next to Facilier's table and plants his feet on the chair opposite him, where his client would be sitting if one were here. When they arrive, he'll move. For now, it's where his feet go. He will be relaxed and enticing and beckon people over with his charming carnie smiles, because surely nothing gets attention like Keith David and the mall kiosk worker from hell.

Molly's just breezing into this like he's found someone willing to give him the time of day at a fortune teller's convention and he's all in for shop talk. And gods does he talk.]

Y'know, the funny thing about those sorts of people is they actually don't need more. They need a lot less. D'you ever get that feeling?

[They will be a force that could take over the world. You know, if Molly was more morally dubious and Facilier had the capacity to actually share anyway.

Still, Molly will sure draw the crowds, and Facilier doesn't totally hate the chance to talk shop with anyone. Not like he gets much of that in the Quarter. He' never really felt the need for companionship, but it's not the worst thing.
]

I do! They're usually overreaching- never really aware how good they got it.

[And then they fuck up and you end up dead-but-not-dead. Screw you, Larry. He shuffles his cards idly.]

The ones that actually could use real help almost never show up. They're the ones that work hard til their bones ache and their souls get weary. Never think they got an easy option.

[He would have got Tiana her restaurant, easy as pie, if she'd asked him. It would have come at a heavy price, of course. But all that work for nothing? She's still going back to that now. Nothing. All because of some fool notion that a layabout prince actually loves her. He'd have sympathy for her if she hadn't, you know, fucked him over. ]
mollymocked: (⚔ so trade that typical)

[It's gonna take Molly a minute to come to the conclusion that this guy is a nightmare and a half, because so far he's not saying anything he doesn't believe, himself. Oh, sure, he doesn't trust him as far as he can throw him with his slapfighting kitten arms, but he doesn't extend trust very far, anyway. Plenty of decent folks are untrustworthy. The best folks are untrustworthy. Trustworthy people are sad and will get you into trouble.

And Molly, grand poobah of the kneejerk assumption, only laughs, assuming he knows precisely what is being discussed here when he's a breath and a set of ethics away from the truth.]
You have to be generous to the ones that hang back. They know that snakes will bite. [Molly flashes his right hand to show off the twin snake tattoos that terminate with their heads on his palm and on the back of the hand, their red eyes standing out stark against the green of the ink.] But I don't fuck with anyone who clearly needs a direction and some hope. I save that for the arseholes and the ones who'd be so much happier if they only knew what really mattered to them.

[Molly's assessments would be dead on the money. Not that Facilier would say such a thing, oh no. Got to play the nice and decent card for as long as he feasibly can. It gives him more time to concoct a decent escape plan, when he needs it. ]

That they do. They're the ones that have been bit before, and lived to tell the tale.

[This guys sounds like Mama Odie and it makes his stomach churn. Goodie folks like them, always pointing people the right way- usually by getting them to make it on their own path, with little to no actual help. It's a ridiculous waste of talent. He doesn't say anything about it, but he's thinking it mighty hard.]

Sounds like you've got it all figured out.
mollymocked: (⚔ finally laugh a little)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2018-12-29 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Molly plants an elbow on the table, pulling his feet away from his stolen chair as he does so, all grace and willowy limbs. If Mama Odie had legs like that, then she and Facilier could have been having dance-offs for the souls of New Orleans every third Sunday.]

Tell you a secret? Craftsman to craftsman? [His grin is childishly gleeful.] I don't have anything figured out. I just do and say precisely what feels right in the moment, and it always works out for me.

[Which explains a lot about Molly, because it's bullshit and not at the same time. He is a mess of contradictions. Everything is based on what works in the moment.]

[It truly would have been a sight to see. They could have charged a good packet for it, too.]

And that works for you? Followin' your gut? Don't it get you in trouble? It has to sometimes.

[Facilier can't work that way. He needs layers upon layers of plans. Fallbacks, escape routes, backups. Honestly, if Tiana hadn't gone and got herself in love with that idiot prince, he's pretty sure he would have convinced her to take the deal and he'd of been sitting pretty. Belatedly, he realises he probably shouldn't have brought up her daddy. That was a misstep, he played by his gut and played wrong. Lesson learned. ]
mollymocked: (⚔ a man learns who is there for him)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-01-04 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. [He's only had two years, however. Given more, maybe he'd eat those words, but he doesn't expect to live long enough for it to come to that. He's only got so many years- he's gonna get real weird with them.] I like having plans, don't get me wrong, but plans fail. They always fail. Spectacularly too. Sometimes all you've got is your gut because you simply don't have time for anything else.
changeitroundsome: (I'm on your side sincerely)

[personal profile] changeitroundsome 2019-01-04 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
And what if you play that wrong? You follow your gut and it gets you in worse trouble than if you planned it ahead? Sure, plans fail, but that's why you make plans to fall back on. Things to escape with, if the first thing don' work so well.

[Not that he had one for when the Loa inevitable came to collect. But that was something he hadn't really foreseen. ]
mollymocked: (⚔ or you can do like me)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-01-04 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Molly leans in a bit more.] You speak like someone who has been in a lot of situations where that happened. Is this an experience thing?
changeitroundsome: (The Shadowman my oldest friend)

[personal profile] changeitroundsome 2019-01-06 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[He laughs, it's companionable on the surface, but in reality is anything but.]

Gotta say, I'm usually pretty careful, but I got myself into a patch of trouble lately. Bad client, things went south.
mollymocked: (⚔ i close my eyes and i can see)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-01-08 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh. [Molly winces a bit in sympathy.] I feel that. You think you've got a decent read on a person and then they turn around and surprise you. There's towns I still can't go back to because of things like that.
