Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore | OPEN

Who: E V E R Y O N E (Including our 4th wall guests!)
Where: Everywhere, one both Mirror and Real Side!
When: December 12th - December 18th (WEEK ONE)
Rating: PG-13, warn if going higher
Summary: This year's Ewaymas celebration rolls out the way it usually does, with intense decorating, a sudden snowfall and...far more arrivals than usual! New faces and old fill the mansion - but why would Wonderland bring so many people at once? And why do some of them remember Wonderland?
The Story:

On the evening before December 12th, the captives of Wonderland might be awoken by a loud commotion. Some of it is typical Ewaymas noise, likely familiar to anyone who has been in Wonderland for more than a year – construction sounds and jingle bells as Wonderland decks its own halls quite literally. Garland and lights race down the walls and down the stairs, and stockings appear on the walls for each and every person in Wonderland, embroidered with their names. There are decorative candles everywhere, and all sorts of decorations for every conceivable winter holiday, even if it does not align perfectly to the dates of Ewaymas. Time isn't real, so there will be menorahs and dreidels and Star of Davids even though Hanukkah ended two days prior. And of course, in the front hall, growing straight out of the floor, is a large decorated tree full of ornaments for everyone. And as always, it will have snowed heavily overnight, bringing all of the snow Wonderland will have between now and spring.

There is a second source of commotion in the night though – the sound of a crowd.

Over the course of the night, dozens of new arrivals will appear in Wonderland. Some for the first time. Some wondering how they managed to return with their memories. Others stumbling in with no recollection of ever having been here. Some might be friends from other timelines, other possibilities, and some might even be doubles of people who are already in Wonderland. It's strange for Wonderland to drag so many people into the mansion at once, but everything seems to indicate that they are supposed to be there. They have their own network devices and even have their own stockings on the wall and their own ornaments on the tree – by all accounts, it seems Wonderland expects that they'll be staying, and is treating them like any other new arrivals. Please, make them feel at home and help them settle in nicely.

The first few days will be for catching up with old friends and enjoying the decorations and settling into Wonderland. However, within a couple of days the decorations will start to glitch, much the way corrupted computer graphics might. Lights might change abruptly from multi-color to blue or white, entire décor styles will abruptly change, candle flames will flicker on and off like broken fluorescent lights, and any singing decorations might loop on a beat or two over and over putting you into an eternal hell. Wonderland doesn't seem to be able to stick to one motif, and it can't stop changing. These glitches are occurring on both the Real Side of Wonderland and the Mirror Side.

By the 15th, these glitches will include entire rooms changing into different holiday scenes. These scenes will all be of characters at various winter holidays in the past, the present (in their world), or a possible future. At this point in the event, characters will still be able to navigate the basic mansion and be able to exit these moments easily. These scenes cannot be interacted with – Wonderland seems to consider them another form of decorating. Unlike previous events of this type, these scenes will not loop at first. They will play once, and then Wonderland will glitch and correct itself to be the room it is supposed to be. The scene might play again, but it will be in a different location if it does.

By this point, Wonderland is having an increasingly difficult time holding itself together in a way that makes geographical sense. You might exit one room, even a room that was not previously playing a scene, and find yourself in the kitchen or on the roof instead of in the hallway. You might open a door that you were sure led to your room only to see a ten foot drop to the grounds outside.

This is the mingle log for WEEK ONE! For more information on this part of the event or any questions, please head over to the plot post, or check out our Fourth Wall Master Post for your other Fourth Wall event needs! Prose or [action brackets] are welcome. Please clearly indicate whether your character is on the Real Side or Mirror Side in your top levels. And of course, have fun! ♥

Freya looks tired, and she is, from picking her way through the various layers of Fitz's mind. She's doing her best not to strain herself, taking breaks to take herself for a drink every now and then. It's in one of those now and thens that she happens to notice a wedding dress.

Her eyes scan up to the face attached, and there's a small moment of relief.

"Jemma. Welcome back."

"You're the third person to say something like that," Jemma doesn't sound frustrated by repeating herself, more tired. "But I've never been here before." Looking down at her dress, "and I have somewhere more important to be, but from what I understand, I'll be missing it."

Unlike the Doctor, this woman seems friendly, more like the redhead she met earlier.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Freya doesn't mean to mistake her for the Jemma who was here before, but in events like this, it's hard to really say what a person will remember and what they won't. "You were here previously, but Wonderland likes to mess with memories. I shouldn't have assumed."

She'll address the wedding dress in a bit, she's gonna let Jemma process that bit first.

"Someone I met earlier explained, the multiverse?" She smooths out her dress. Jemma still has hope whatever brought her here will send her back, to where things make a modicum, if only a modicum, of sense.

She should be getting married. Isn't this supposed to be the happiest day of her life?

"Was the previously me married?" Is there not only the multiverse, but also a time loop involved? Also, if they knew her "My husband to be is not here." Do they know who they see as Fitz is the farthest thing from?

"She was not."

It's something she was fairly certain of, or Jemma may have been a lot more upset when Fitz made his grand reappearance. But while Jemma seems aware of the fact that Fitz isn't Fitz, it seems like she's already run into him on one of his little outings.

"And I would hope so. But perhaps you might be able to help in that department. I'm trying to ... resolve that issue."

That doesn’t help resolve if the previous Jemma was earlier or later in her timeline. What if something else happened and the wedding never happened. It would be just FitzSimmons luck if it did

Help. Jemma’s immediately grateful, the Doctor needs help, because Fitz should be in there somewhere.

“I hate to phrase it like this but are you ‘the Witch?’” She sounds embarrassed saying it, but that’s the only name the Doctor gave.

She laughs a bit at that, before nodding her agreement. Not that the title particularly bothers her - she's the Mikaelson witch now, and she takes that title with pride - but of course that's how he'd phrase it.

"Yes. That would be me." And she holds out a hand to introduce herself. "Freya Mikaelson."

Jemma’s relieved by the laughter. It sounds genuine rather than derisive.

Reaching out to take Freya’s hand, “Jemma Si— you already know that.” She shrugs a little. “Do you have some time to talk? I would really like to know what’s going on. The Doctor mentioned something about vampires, and witches, well, you.” She’s about to hit Jemma babble-mode if not stopped.

[personal profile] deathlessness 2018-12-21 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course." Talking is exactly what Freya had in mind, so she'll turn back towards the hallway, and gesture with her free hand. "Why don't we have a drink? It seems like you could likely use it."

Coming in to an evil version of your fiance is likely not the most enjoyable experience in the world.

“Please, a couple of drinks.” Jemma’s not one for liquid courage, but she’s earned it.

Heading out into the halllway, once she’s sure she’s out of earshot, “thank you. I know it sounds absurd but thank you for keeping him safe, from himself as much as others.”

He experimented on people and yet isn’t dead. Freya must’ve had something, if not everything to do with it, given how much blame the Doctor places on her.

"Of course."

Freya will admit, she's not really doing it for either party - if her brother hadn't been involved, Fitz would likely still be wandering around somewhere, torturing innocent vampires, but once the situation became clear, she knew she needed to take control of this situation personally.

"Have you encountered this version of Fitz back home?"

Jemma nods, “In the Framework, a virtual world. AIDA, he calls her Ophelia, changed one thing in his life, his father raised him instead of abandoning him and made him like this.” What’s this? “Afraid of everything and hiding it with violence. She then replaced me with herself.”

Does Freya know how much Jemma loves the original Fitz. “I was murdered, the Framework version of me. I had to crawl out of a mass grave.”

In short, AIDA’s the true evil. The Doctor is a scared little boy, but somewhere, “in the Framework, the original memories were there, somewhere. They came out in odd ways, but were there. It depended on how much the changes AIDA made in people’s lives fulfilled a need.”

Fitz didn’t need his father. He was better off, a better person, without him.

That's ... a lot of very important information. Information Freya likely could have used before she went poking around in Fitz's head the first time. But it lines up with certain things she had been starting to piece together on her own.

"So it's a computer program?" That's certainly curious enough. "I had suspicions that it was something like that - that there was a lynch pin memory that was altered and all of the dominoes fell from there. I just didn't know what the memory was in order to fix it."

She's not sure her magic will be able to undo a computer program, but maybe she'd be able to work around it.

“A computer program most users didn’t know they were in. For Fitz, he lived a whole other life in the Framework. I’m sure the lynchpin memory, asyou phrase it, would be his father staying with him.” All those formative years, living with Alastair Fitz? Would Jemma have even wanted to be friends with Fitz in the Academy?

“Pull out Alastair Fitz, he should be himself again.” She hopes.

Also, she has to know, “how has no one killed him yet?” Without the entirety of SHIELD at his commend, she’s shocked by one thing, “he says he’s been here for months.”

[personal profile] deathlessness 2018-12-24 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's more like years, actually."

Those are the parts that Fitz doesn't remember and treats as though they were an entirely separate person. But that's a much longer story that she's going to wait until they're at the bar, and she's grabbing a bottle of bourbon to pour a few fingers for them both.

"Wonderland has this ... funny little relationship with death. You're given a few ... lives where Wonderland will resurrect you without consequence. You can tell how many deaths a person has had by the number of days it takes for them to be resurrected again."

And with that brief lesson on Wonderland mechanics out of the way: "Fitz originally arrived in Wonderland around the same time I did three years ago, but prior to his entrance into the Framework. He had two deaths due to events and Wonderland adjacent situations, and was sent home briefly before coming back as this Framework version of himself. We presumed, at first, that he was a separate Fitz entirely, as he didn't seem to remember his time in Wonderland and was such a completely different person."

She pauses to take a long sip of her drink before she gets to the but of that statement.

"That is, until he died again, and it took three days to revive him. That's when we discovered that he had been brainwashed somehow and I took steps to try and rectify it." She pauses for a moment. "I owe him greatly, for a risk he took for me. I'm doing my best to try and repay it. It's not going to fix the things he's done, but at least it will put him in a position where he will be more capable of making amends."
badgirlshenanigans: (Light drinker)

[personal profile] badgirlshenanigans 2018-12-25 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
“Years?!” Resurrection? Lack of consequence? Vampires? Witches? Wonderland indeed. She is grateful for the drink, but can’t swallow it all in one go, excuse her awkwardness, but she coughs for a second. “Sorry.”

Listening to Freya’s tale, and if sounds more like a story, but one Jemma’s lived through before. Meeting the Doctor would be a shock to anyone who knows Fitz. It was devastating to her.

If Jemma looks a little lost at Wonderland mechanics, it’s not because of the rules of death, it’s that a Fitz died twice while he was himself. Not being here, not knowing the circumstances, just the idea pains her. The Doctor she can see, but Fitz? Who was he protecting?

She finishes her drink in her second gulp.

“You’re keeping him in check, somehow. Be wary of him, he’s beyond angry. He’s a scared, trapped animal.” They’re the most dangerous.

“Can I ask how you’re doing it? I mentioned a couple of things, and he accused you of feeding me the information.”

"A binding spell mixed with some other ... behavioral things thrown in." She pauses for a moment, before tipping her head to the side. "It's a bit like a magical leash. Hopefully I won't be in need of it for much longer though." Now that she has far more information into the nature of the mindset he's placed himself in, she's certain it would be much easier to get to the Fitz he's supposed to be.

"I've been using memory magic to dig into his mind for answers. That's likely why he's accused you of getting information from me. If you're dead in his universe, then it's likely that he doesn't believe the idea that you're from his future." Or that she is his future, for that matter.
badgirlshenanigans: (pasty)

[personal profile] badgirlshenanigans 2018-12-27 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
“A,” Jemma can’t believe she’s about to say this, “spell?” It must be some inhuman like power from another universe. She remembers Clarke’s law about magic.

“So you think you’ll be able to pull AIDA out of his mind?” She felt so helpless being unable to do it herself, to be on her knees being told she was nothing to him. “But it was never a universe; it was all manipulated. Somewhere there has to be a memory almost impossible to replace me with her.” She shakes her head; that was a selfish idea.

“No, it’s his father. Pull his father out.” Which gives her a bit of a sad realization. She wasn’t that vital to Fitz being Fitz after all. Any other woman would do.

Freya pauses for a moment, before reaching forward to place a hand on Jemma's arm gently. "His father may be the switch that was flipped, but I know enough to know that you were very important to Fitz. Even if you're not the cure, that doesn't mean you can't be part of the solution."

She pauses for a moment, before trying to determine how to make things clearer. "In fact, once the lynch pin is pulled, having you there as a stabilizing force might be helpful. To help orient which memories are real and which are manufactured."
badgirlshenanigans: (SHIELD light)

[personal profile] badgirlshenanigans 2018-12-27 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Jemma’s aiming to look determined, but her expression is more uncertain. “I tried to be a part of the solution. I couldn’t do or say anything to convince him.” She’d never felt so helpless in her whole life, even at the bottom of the ocean.

“I might make things worse.” She’s felt that way before, when he was healing all those years ago now. “But I’d like to be there.”

"I find that situations like these often get worse before they get better." She pauses for a moment, before reaching forward to rest one hand on top of Jemma's gently. "But I know how much you mean to him - the real him. AIDA wouldn't have been so thorough in eradicating you from that world if you weren't a considerable enough threat."
badgirlshenanigans: (B&W)

[personal profile] badgirlshenanigans 2019-01-02 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
"That's kind of you to say," Jemma blinks, her eyes are tearing a little, but not enough to properly cry.

"If you can remove Alastair and AIDA, even if I can't be restored, it would give him a chance, a chance to make amends." He'd likely fall in love with someone else, Fitz is a romantic, who would he fall for here?

It's becoming more and more painful to be here, in some other part of the multiverse, a restored Fitz is waiting for her.

"We'll see. For now, I want to try and ... unlock as much as I can. The more he remembers of his old life, hopefully the better things will be for him."

Not that things will ever be perfect again, not with him having murdered Claire Fraser. He will be atoning for that for a while. But at least he will be in a space to atone, rather than convinced that he's done nothing wrong.
