+ Chalk it to me! - Mingle Log +

Who: EVERYONE!
Where: Anywhere outside on Real Side, but mostly in the gardens!
When: 3/14-3/20
Rating: PG, warn if going higher than PG-13
Summary: Alice has invited everyone, Reals and Mirrors alike, to come color outside in the nice spring weather with magic chalk. Surely nothing could go wrong with that plan, right?
The Story:

Outside, the weather is absolutely beautiful. It's not too hot, but not too cold either, and no one would have ever realized there was snow on the ground yesterday if they hadn't been here to see it. The grass is green and everything is dry - no sign of melted snow anywhere at all. Flowers have begun to bloom and it truly looks as though it's been spring for some time already. The season has changed abruptly and now Wonderland's decided it's time for it to be nice out.

There are many paths through the gardens, the vendors, and the hedge maze that can be drawn on, but as Alice demonstrated in her post, there's no need at all to stick to pavement only. Even the air can be decorated with living drawings!

This is a log for people who want to come color outside or people who want to check out what others are doing out here. It isn't strictly to interact with Alice, but she'll be around and will have a top level.

Mirror Sunburst!

"Because the entire bunch of them are nosy and can't keep their noses out of our side of the glass whenever they get," Stan's Mirror chimes in, even though he wasn't being spoken to. He's just been lurking nearby, listening in.

He has similar reservations about their new Queen, and about how kind she truly is. As far as Stan's concerned, no one is that kind unless they want something. And boy, she probably really wants something if she's pulling a con this long.

"This is a waste of time, but it goes to show how easily distracted they are," he says. "If the Queen of Hearts pulled something like this, we'd be getting away with murder while they all sat around coloring."

Maybe even literal murder! He can't even begin to imagine why the White Queen wouldn't use an opportunity like this. What the hell is the point of just drawing?

"Honestly, I don't understand their obsession with the place. It's like they want to gawp at our misery. Like we're animals in a zoo or something."

Mirror Sunburst would agree with that statement. It's too nice over here and it doesn't make any sense. She has to be angling for something. It's just a case of learning what that something is.

"Exactly! It's so....so ridiculous. They're playing around like foals and we're supposed to stand around and watch them like they're doing something impressive. It's a joke, and a waste of good magic."

Literal murder would have been so much better than this.

"It's even worse than that," Stan's Mirror says. "We've been invited. The White Queen didn't send us here to do anything about it - we got sent to play with them. What are we, five?"

Stan's Mirror would never claim that he was too dignified for this exactly, but when you've been Unmade and Remade into someone new, you take your job more seriously, and now suddenly he doesn't have to anymore.

"Under her rule we're basically unemployed," he adds, with an annoyed huff.

"Ugh, apparently so. It's so...pointless. We had a literal war with them not even a year ago, and now we're playing around and drawing with them like none of that ever happened?"

Okay so the 'literal war' was a chess match, but it still counts. These people are supposed to be their enemies, and here they are, having some sort of twisted recess with them.

"You're right. Why do we even exist any more? Just to play nice with the Reals? I'd rather not."

Stan scoffs at the thought of actually having to play nice with these jerks. He was Made for more than this, literally.

"Pacifism is a joke," he says. "There's no way any of this is gonna last. One way or another, things are gonna fall apart."

The people around them might seem happy for now, but someday they'll just be pitted against each other again, and again, and again.

"Of course it will, it's inevitable."

Because the Reals were idiots, because the Queens were psychopaths, because Wonderland always leaned towards chaos in the end- any number of reasons could (and would) lead towards the breakdown of this supposed utopia.

"The aim is to be somewhere you can take advantage of it all when it does go to Tartarus."

He doesn't have to know what Tartarus is to get the gist of what Sunburst's Mirror means, and he grins.

"You got that right," he says. "Someone's gotta be ready to pick up the pieces and make whatever the hell they want out of them."

Might as well be him, right? It's not like anyone else is doing anything useful with them.

"Precisely," he smirks. "No need to let all this go to seed just because everything else has crumbled. You just need to know how to use it and step up. Exploit the power vacuum, as it were."

Because it would be a waste otherwise.
