+ Chalk it to me! - Mingle Log +

Who: EVERYONE!
Where: Anywhere outside on Real Side, but mostly in the gardens!
When: 3/14-3/20
Rating: PG, warn if going higher than PG-13
Summary: Alice has invited everyone, Reals and Mirrors alike, to come color outside in the nice spring weather with magic chalk. Surely nothing could go wrong with that plan, right?
The Story:

Outside, the weather is absolutely beautiful. It's not too hot, but not too cold either, and no one would have ever realized there was snow on the ground yesterday if they hadn't been here to see it. The grass is green and everything is dry - no sign of melted snow anywhere at all. Flowers have begun to bloom and it truly looks as though it's been spring for some time already. The season has changed abruptly and now Wonderland's decided it's time for it to be nice out.

There are many paths through the gardens, the vendors, and the hedge maze that can be drawn on, but as Alice demonstrated in her post, there's no need at all to stick to pavement only. Even the air can be decorated with living drawings!

This is a log for people who want to come color outside or people who want to check out what others are doing out here. It isn't strictly to interact with Alice, but she'll be around and will have a top level.

"I wonder if we can get, like, a boulder shaped like somebody's face. Or a giant ball of twine." Where did M'Lapis learn this kind of cultural reference? She gets a distant, wickedly thoughtful look in her eyes. "I bet I could make a geyser."

Mirrorside definitely doesn't have what it would take to get a geyser going, and Realside probably doesn't either, although the state of Wonderland's geothermal activity hasn't really been studied much. God only knows what would come of letting her try, but hey, this side of the glass doesn't have much to ruin in the first place.
bibliocorn: (Ooooh a plan)

"Those sound exactly the sorts of things that would attract tourists to a place. It might even win over some of the Reals."

Probably not him, but his interest in the Mirror Side is always going to be more...scientifically minded. He is at least diverted from his current core-quest by her last statement.

"You...you can make a geyser?"
sslillappy: (I'm just pretending to care)

M'Lapis is still thinking about the possibilities of that question herself; that certain shine in her eyes remains.

"I mean, if anyone could... It's not exaaactly what I'm made for, but it's pretty darn close!" She's not even 100% certain of how geysers work, but ultimately it's all just landscaping. But alas, there are other reasons this plan wouldn't work. Thinking further, she makes a bit of a face. "But I guess it's not like we have that lake over here or anything."
bibliocorn: (I don't think it works that way)

"Well, I always say that there's a certain freedom in going against what's expected of you. Breaking out of those bonds of destiny and all that."

The bonds of destiny are the goddamn worse okay. You be you, M!Lapis.

"You don't? No lake at all? Or the ocean? What...what do you have on this side?"

sslillappy: (the line from its parallel)

Honestly M'Lapis doesn't care much about the existential crises of the Homeworld caste system or whatever. She has plenty of existential baggage from being a Mirror. She just likes being hella good at moving water around.

But that can wait, because she also really likes passive-aggressively harping about how much her life sucks. "Basically nothing!" she says, very chipper.
bibliocorn: (Mild horror why this)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-04-05 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a very chipper tone for something that's pretty shitty. Because Wonderland might be awful, but it's at least pretty. Sure, Sunburst never goes outside because he's a goddamn recluse, but he knows other people like it.

"So...what are your grounds like?" he glances to the window- he never even thought of going out there. "Or...or inside? Do you have a kitchen? A ballroom? ...Do do you have a library?"

Oh no, what if they don't have a library?
sslillappy: (I'm just pretending to care)

[personal profile] sslillappy 2019-04-08 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
She detects his horror and thinks it's funny. "Okay no, we have a libray, calm down." Admittedly it's probably the best thing on this side; there's not much of anywhere else to turn for entertainment. Anyway, she checks each item off on her fingers. "Let's see. I think there's a kitchen, but that's not really my thing. We didn't have a ballroom, but... well, you could say the new management put one in. But outside the mansion? There's sooo much less. It just stops! Not to mention the whole color problem."
bibliocorn: (Oh right blizzard)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-04-08 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, thank Celestia. Imagine not having a library!"

At least his book-related panic is always so very entertaining. He listens to what they do have though, nodding. His notebook comes out again as he starts scribbling down her answers, pencil hovering in the air as it scrawls across the notepad.

"Hmmm interesting. That's something," he considers. "The lack of colour has always been so strange to me. Like does it cause the core too much power to keep this side in colour? It's very...odd."
sslillappy: (I've ruined the lyrics!)

[personal profile] sslillappy 2019-04-09 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm, I wonder. You know, that chalk everyone got doesn't work as well over here either." That sorta makes sense if Mirrorside has like some kinda running magic deficit, right? Sure, why not!
bibliocorn: (Lemmie ponder this stupidity)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-04-09 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"It doesn't?"

He'll be pulling some out of some hidden recess of his cloak, before just...straight up trying to draw a goddamn line on the floor. Maybe he should have asked first, but he doesn't. There's magical science to do, after all. He frowns at the result. He doesn't like this one bit.

"Hmmm. That's...very strange. It's like this side runs on different rules."
sslillappy: (the line from its parallel)

[personal profile] sslillappy 2019-04-10 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not to mention the whole death thing!" Again, she's just way too good at saying that kind of stuff casually and cheerfully. "In some ways, it's almost like this side is more real. Don't you think?"
bibliocorn: (I'm not eating that)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-04-10 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeees, the whole death thing is. A thing."

The cheerfulness around that topic is deeply, deeply worrying. He has some worries.

"I guess you have a point. You don't have the convenience of magic to soften everything. Though honestly, not having magic is very unnatural in my world. Even creatures who can't use it are at least attuned to it in one way or another."
sslillappy: (fills up the bubble with air)

[personal profile] sslillappy 2019-04-11 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's a point, with people coming from such totally different realities and all. I guess real isn't the same thing as realistic."
bibliocorn: (Default)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-04-11 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly!" he smiles. "Though I do know what you mean. It's certainly more...life like here. You get to live relatively normal lives- without Events and the like."
sslillappy: (moon's erased)

[personal profile] sslillappy 2019-04-13 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Honestly, this side's boring more than anything," M'Lapis says lightly. She honestly doesn't mind the idea of events overall -- but she knows the Reals don't like them, so it's better not to push that. "But the company over here leaves soooo much more to be desired. You guys absolutely win on that."
bibliocorn: (I don't think it works that way)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-04-14 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Heh, yes, I guess there is that," he considers. "I'd say I wished there were more chances for you guys to come across to our side...but that would just mean the less desirable company can move around, too."

And no one wants that. No sir.
