Who: Claire & Jamie Fraser, Bree Randall, Steve Rogers, Juliet O'Hara
Where: The Fraser Residence
When: 4-5
Rating: D for dinner party??? It shouldn't get that crazy.
Summary: Jamie and Claire host a dinner date.
The Story:
When Juliet and Steve arrive, they'll be ushered into Jamie and Claire's room that magically looks as close to Lallybroch (minus the second story) as she and Jamie could get it. There's electricity of course, but they rarely use it save in the bathroom and in Brianna's connected room. Introductions are made before Claire leads everyone to the dining room.
She doesn't cook, not well save for a few things, so the supper this evening - pot roast with potatoes and carrots, dinner rolls, a salad and good wine (and whisky) - is all Wonderland provided but homey and comforting.
After supper is done, Claire serves dessert in the parlor (a pound cake with light lemon frosting and coffee or tea--or more whisky) and they mingle and talk, sometimes as a group, and sometimes in smaller one-on-one conversations.

"I don't know yet, Bree. What I do know is that Jamie and I took the Governor's offer for the land he gave. It means we're supposed to be loyal now to the Crown."
Obviously, they won't be.

"Boy, that's gonna be a real dilemma eventually." She lets out a breath. "Did I say? I mean, after I showed up, do I live with you and da now?"

That wasn't the plan. The plan was always for Bree to go back, but tonight isn't the night to bring up anything.
"You and a traveling companion you bought to assist you while you were traveling. Lizzie. You stay in a smaller home that was a temporary shelter for Jamie and I while we were building our cabin. But don't worry. There's a bigger house soon to come," she says with another smile.

"He can fight with all kinds of weapons, speak multiple languages, he's a printer, a smuggler, a horse whisperer..."

"Honestly, if it ever benefited us or anyone he loved, he'd learn it until he was perfect at it. Same as you, actually. You're both very determined to be good at everything you set out to do."

Maybe that doesn't make sense out loud, but it does in her head.
"It makes me wonder what growing up then would have been like, you know?"
no subject
"I know, darling. I wonder it too, and for Jamie..." For Jamie, her heart breaks.
"All that he ever truly wanted was to be your father. He wanted to be surrounded by children." A dream that never had the chance to come through. "To have you now, it's changed him, Bree. His heart has always been wide open, but you've pushed down any small walls of protection he might have built."

"Just like...well, you had to look at me when I was born and hate, so much, that you couldn't be with him."

Claire ducks her head and reaches for Brianna's hands now.
"It hurt to not be with him, not see him raise you. But you were the sole reason I didn't--I didn't let myself languish."
That's probably better to say than the reason I didn't just die.
"Likely he is sad, a bit, but more than that, just to know you and see you, to be able to have this now, and later at home on Fraser's Ridge? It's all that matters now. He would spend every waking moment with you if he could. Nothing about you, for either Jamie or I, would ever make us stop wanting you near."
