harry and lisa [complete]

Who: Harry Mason and Lisa Garland
Where: By the lake.
When: 8/26/07
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Unaware of what she's considering, Harry heads for the lake to check in on Lisa.
the Story:

Maybe... maybe this isn't such a good idea.

Harry stumbles as he steps outside, holding his head. He's only so much grateful to the kitchen never seeming to run out of drinks, but. It doesn't help him limit at all.

And. Honestly, he kind of wishes he could just... stay inside and not do a damned thing, but he knows he's got to do this.

Even if he's incredibly dizzy, even though he feels like falling over -- once he got word that Lisa was by the lake, he knows he needs to go after her. Or... at least, just to check on her.

After all, Harry highly doubts she wants to see him.

He winces and leans against a tree for a moment, closing his eyes against his pounding head. It feels like it's swimming, and things are spinning -- but at least he's... got a general idea where to go.

Harry takes in a deep breath and continues forward.

Lisa wasn't sure how long it's been since she decided to sit at the lake. When she woke up from death, she thought about just hiding in her room.

But she didn't want to see Harry (she was scared he'd come back). She left to the lake, after a brief shower.

Her back against a tree, Lisa's arms were wrapped around her knees as she gazed out at the calm lake. Her chest felt heavy, but she hadn't cried all day. Still, dark thoughts weighed her down. Thoughts that the people she cared for probably really hated her for real, and maybe she should just kill herself. Just end it all.

But even for that, she didn't have the courage.

Maybe she was just a failure all around.

Lisa jumped, startled at the sudden sound. She sat up straight, looking over her shoulder. Harry?

The nurse stood up, hesitantly taking a step or two back as the man rolled down the hill toward her.

Part of her wanted to run away, her heart gripped with fear and confusion. But yet, she couldn't find it in her to simply leave him.

Lisa hurried over to where Harry Mason stopped, kneeling down beside him. "Harry...?" She lightly placed an uncertain hand on his shoulder, but it was barely a graze.

Lisa stands back up with him, keeping her distance however. She listens to what he says with a lowered gaze, idly brushing some blonde hair behind her ear.

"It's okay, Harry. I think...you were kind of right, anyway." She turns away from the writer, wrapping her arms around herself as if she were cold.

"Harry, tell me honestly...uh," Lisa bit her bottom lip softly. She hadn't cried all day, but somehow she felt like doing so now. "Do you...truly hate me? It's okay if you do. I know I've just been a burden to you. I'd understand."

Harry was a nice guy, he really was. But Lisa didn't want to trouble him, or give him a responsibility he did not want at all. After all, she should be able to fend for herself. She shouldn't be so dependent on others.

And the nurse felt bad, because she knew she was that way, and she couldn't help it.

She turns to look at him, noting how he sways here and again.

Drinking again. It really wasn't good for him.

"I just don't want to trouble you. I never meant to-," she found that ending that sentence to be difficult, as her voice felt like it was twisting up, a few tears trying to squeeze their way out of her eyes. "Gosh, " Lisa nervously wiped at her eyes, chewing on her lip.

She felt tiny standing there in front of Harry, babbling on when Harry already said he didn't feel that way.

But part of her wasn't sure if she should believe it. Was it really the mansion that caused it, or was that anger truly inside Harry Mason, just needing a little boost to be unleashed?

"..." Lisa is quiet for a moment or two, head lowered. She slowly walks forward, hesitantly closing the distance between them.

And she uncertainly wraps her arms around the man's waist, hoping she won't be pushed away, hoping she isn't just following a girlish hope.

"It's...okay, Harry."

[identity profile] alonetomorrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Harry..." Lisa holds him more firmly, more assured. Her head rests against his shoulder as she rubs his back, comforting him. Her heart feels suddenly warm. She feels safe in Harry's tight embrace.

Lisa smiles quietly.

But for Harry to be this affected- Lisa felt terrible for doubting him. She knew she could trust Harry. It was just a misunderstanding, wasn't it? (To put it simply, anyway) "I...forgive you."

"Oh, yeah. Sorry," she said sheepishly, pulling away. She guided him over to the place where she was sitting before. It was only a short distance away. Besides, it had a lovely view of the lake.

And she sits down beside him, tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear. "You've been drinking again, haven't you?"

[identity profile] alonetomorrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I wish I could help...take these burdens away from you, somehow," Lisa murmurs. But she knows she probably only stressed him out more, by acting this way. Lisa's expression softened. "Um, I know I didn't exactly contribute to that wish, just a few moments ago though."

Holding her hands underneath her knees, Lisa quietly sighs, resting her head against Harry's shoulder, somewhat awkwardly. "But...we have to support each other, don't we?"

[identity profile] alonetomorrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"It is impossible, Harry. But..." the blonde gazes up at Harry's face briefly, leaning in a little more as she felt his arm around her. "But...you're suffering, Harry."

He always tried to help her. He was such a nice man to her.

She wasn't sure she deserved his kindness. What were her problems compared to his?

"Let me help you, this time."

[identity profile] alonetomorrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Really. If you need help, you should...just ask. I wouldn't mind." But now she was getting kind of embarrassed too, telling Harry things like this. He probably thought she was just being weird now.

"Cheryl? Didn't you say she and Alessa merged or something?" Lisa raised an eyebrow, looking confused (and understandably so).

[identity profile] alonetomorrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course I'm sure," Lisa smiled back. "You can count on me."

"How strange..." She wasn't so sure how to comprehend something like that actually (and she could only imagine how confusing it must be for Harry). "The mansion picks up people from different time periods, doesn't it?"

[identity profile] alonetomorrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
"The future?" It was so weird thinking of that. "How old is she now?" Lisa was curious as to how that little girl grew up, especially since now she knew that Alessa was no longer inflicted with those terrible injuries.

She was sure she grew up pretty.

But, this also meant that at least...some part of Alessa got to grow up, hopefully happily. If for just that, Lisa was relieved.

[identity profile] alonetomorrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"That many years, huh? Gosh..." Time really flew, didn't it? Especially when one was completely unaware of it.

"I'd like to meet her, one day. If that's okay, I mean."

[identity profile] alonetomorrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm, yeah," she replies somewhat thoughtfully, closing her eyes briefly as she tries to imagine how that meeting would be.

But she also realizes that she's kind of tired (emotionally drained, really).

"Hey Harry, is it okay if we stay here a little?"

Harry should be resting too, honestly.

[identity profile] alonetomorrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Heh, good." She didn't feel like walking him back that far either. A small smile on her face, Lisa relaxes against Harry's side, her eyes closing as her cheek rests on his shoulder.

She wouldn't fall asleep but-

She feels safe here.

Safe, needed.

It was a wonderful feeling.

She savors it.
