harry and lisa [complete]
Who: Harry Mason and Lisa Garland
Where: By the lake.
When: 8/26/07
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Unaware of what she's considering, Harry heads for the lake to check in on Lisa.
the Story:
Maybe... maybe this isn't such a good idea.
Harry stumbles as he steps outside, holding his head. He's only so much grateful to the kitchen never seeming to run out of drinks, but. It doesn't help him limit at all.
And. Honestly, he kind of wishes he could just... stay inside and not do a damned thing, but he knows he's got to do this.
Even if he's incredibly dizzy, even though he feels like falling over -- once he got word that Lisa was by the lake, he knows he needs to go after her. Or... at least, just to check on her.
After all, Harry highly doubts she wants to see him.
He winces and leans against a tree for a moment, closing his eyes against his pounding head. It feels like it's swimming, and things are spinning -- but at least he's... got a general idea where to go.
Harry takes in a deep breath and continues forward.

But she didn't want to see Harry (she was scared he'd come back). She left to the lake, after a brief shower.
Her back against a tree, Lisa's arms were wrapped around her knees as she gazed out at the calm lake. Her chest felt heavy, but she hadn't cried all day. Still, dark thoughts weighed her down. Thoughts that the people she cared for probably really hated her for real, and maybe she should just kill herself. Just end it all.
But even for that, she didn't have the courage.
Maybe she was just a failure all around.

He lets out a sigh of relief. She's okay. ... Well, he... expects that.
He expects that he did kill her, which... god, no, he doesn't want to think about it right now, but still she's whole and safe and that's all that matters.
Harry is okay with leaving, but his body doesn't really want to do the walk back.
Which is obvious by the way he turns to leave, loses his balance, and abruptly rolls down the small hill.
...Not a pleasant fall. Ow. But now he's made himself obvious to the nurse.
no subject
The nurse stood up, hesitantly taking a step or two back as the man rolled down the hill toward her.
Part of her wanted to run away, her heart gripped with fear and confusion. But yet, she couldn't find it in her to simply leave him.
Lisa hurried over to where Harry Mason stopped, kneeling down beside him. "Harry...?" She lightly placed an uncertain hand on his shoulder, but it was barely a graze.
no subject
He winces a moment, slowly glancing up.
"Lisa..."
He looks away. "I..."
Honestly, he's sort of surprised she just didn't run away.
"I'm ... I'm okay. But..."
Gently as he can, he pulls away; it takes a bit of stumbling, but he manages to stand back up.
"I'm... I didn't mean to..." How the hell does one say that they're sorry for killing you? "What happened, I..."
Damn it.
"I didn't... I didn't mean a word of it. I didn't mean to... I..."
All he can do, it seems, is stumble over words.
no subject
"It's okay, Harry. I think...you were kind of right, anyway." She turns away from the writer, wrapping her arms around herself as if she were cold.
no subject
Ow. Even yelling hurts his head. Harry winces, but shakes his head.
"Lisa, what I said... it's not true. I wasn't myself at all. I don't... really understand why this place made me like that, but it did. Lisa..."
He approaches, swaying a bit -- but he keeps a safe distance, enough he hopes.
"You're Alessa's friend. You're... probably one of the only ones that kept her sane enough, I think... The other things don't matter. You're a good person, Lisa."
no subject
Harry was a nice guy, he really was. But Lisa didn't want to trouble him, or give him a responsibility he did not want at all. After all, she should be able to fend for herself. She shouldn't be so dependent on others.
And the nurse felt bad, because she knew she was that way, and she couldn't help it.
She turns to look at him, noting how he sways here and again.
Drinking again. It really wasn't good for him.

Harry lets out a sigh. If anything, he's the one that messed up. He shot and killed Lisa, didn't he?
He'd never do it, if he had normally been himself, but...
But it still happened.
And Harry's going to remember it for the rest of his life, he knows he will.
no subject
She felt tiny standing there in front of Harry, babbling on when Harry already said he didn't feel that way.
But part of her wasn't sure if she should believe it. Was it really the mansion that caused it, or was that anger truly inside Harry Mason, just needing a little boost to be unleashed?
no subject
He wishes he could do something about it, but he can barely even keep his balance.
"You were never any trouble," he assures quietly. "If I was... ever frustrated, I was ... just desperate to find my daughter. But you never were a burden to me. You still aren't."
Harry takes a moment, his hand grasping blindly to hold onto something -- a tree branch. All right, that'll do.
"I just... I'm really sorry, Lisa. I know there's nothing I can do to take it back."
Try as he might.
no subject
And she uncertainly wraps her arms around the man's waist, hoping she won't be pushed away, hoping she isn't just following a girlish hope.
"It's...okay, Harry."
no subject
It pushes him a little, and he's putting his arms around Lisa, hugging her fiercely, and he can't help but tremble a little.
Everything's just getting to be too much for Harry.
"I'm so sorry," he says again anyway.
no subject
Lisa smiles quietly.
But for Harry to be this affected- Lisa felt terrible for doubting him. She knew she could trust Harry. It was just a misunderstanding, wasn't it? (To put it simply, anyway) "I...forgive you."
no subject
And he feels sort of awkward, Lisa resting against him and comforting him.
But not in a bad way.
Harry nods slowly.
"I, uh."
He hesitates. "I don't, um. Think I can stay standing. Sorry."
no subject
And she sits down beside him, tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear. "You've been drinking again, haven't you?"
no subject
Harry ducks his head a little, but he knows he wasn't exactly trying to hide it.
"Yeah," he answers quietly. "There's just..."
There's just too many things. Too many things going on, and when he feels like he can catch up with them, something else drops into his lap that he can't handle.
He can't... keep doing everything on his own.
"I knew what I did to you, and... it was... it's a lot..."
no subject
Holding her hands underneath her knees, Lisa quietly sighs, resting her head against Harry's shoulder, somewhat awkwardly. "But...we have to support each other, don't we?"
no subject
Harry lets her get near. It's just... strange is all. If only because this kind of interaction is a form of affection that's been limited for him.
But Lisa is a good person, and Harry knows he's got to depend on someone before he snaps.
Lightly, places an arm around her shoulders.
"Yeah, we do," Harry agrees. "I guess I'm trying too hard to take everything onto myself -- but it's impossible... to do."
no subject
He always tried to help her. He was such a nice man to her.
She wasn't sure she deserved his kindness. What were her problems compared to his?
"Let me help you, this time."
no subject
But logically, Harry knows he can't.
Also, he really... really is bad at asking for assistance, but Lisa is offering it.
"Thanks," Harry says quietly. "It's just... Running around, trying to help everyone, while raising Alessa, and... and."
Oh jeez.
"I didn't tell you... about her yet. Did I? Cheryl. She's... here. But older. And... yeah."
no subject
"Cheryl? Didn't you say she and Alessa merged or something?" Lisa raised an eyebrow, looking confused (and understandably so).
no subject
The whole thing is confusing. Harry holds his head. "I don't know how to explain it. But Alessa and Cheryl are here. Two different people, yet... yet the same thing. It's... it's to confusing. One is Alessa Gillespie, and the other is my Cheryl."
How else can he say it but like that?
no subject
"How strange..." She wasn't so sure how to comprehend something like that actually (and she could only imagine how confusing it must be for Harry). "The mansion picks up people from different time periods, doesn't it?"
no subject
"It's really strange," Harry agrees, sounding tired. "But yeah. Cheryl was surprised to see me younger, so... I don't know. I guess she's in my future."
no subject
She was sure she grew up pretty.
But, this also meant that at least...some part of Alessa got to grow up, hopefully happily. If for just that, Lisa was relieved.
no subject
Harry closes his eyes. "But I know it's Cheryl. I can see it in her. I guess I'm happy that I've gotten to see her again."
no subject
"I'd like to meet her, one day. If that's okay, I mean."
no subject
Even if Cheryl didn't remember Lisa, Harry has a good feeling they'd get along, anyway.
He leans his head back, opening his eyes again as he looks out at the lake. It's really kind of nice here. In a lot of ways... this mansion place is deceptively beautiful, what with the terrible things that seem to happen here. People dying, people not being themselves...
But right now, at least it's nice, even if his mind is... all fogged up.
no subject
But she also realizes that she's kind of tired (emotionally drained, really).
"Hey Harry, is it okay if we stay here a little?"
Harry should be resting too, honestly.
no subject
And honestly... Harry is feeling too tired to even think about getting up and walking ten floors to his room.
Besides. Honestly...
Honestly, he feels really comfortable like this.
no subject
She wouldn't fall asleep but-
She feels safe here.
Safe, needed.
It was a wonderful feeling.
She savors it.
