"... Yeah."

The name is apt for what they are, but doesn't really descible the skin-crawling horror of being near them. Even now, with his plentiful experience of all sides of those creatures, R would still struggle for words to fully describe them to someone else.

"They're... they lead the Hives. Or... they did. Before the Cure. They want everything to stay like it is."

"Well. That's fucking terrifying."

Walkers, at least, don't have any leaders, no hierarchies. They bearly even seem to notice one another existing at all. Probably for the best. They're dangerous enough in a disorganised mob- put some direction behind that and the small vestiges of humanity left would be completely fucked.

"Walkers don't have leaders. They just... walk. Sometimes they gather in herds. But that's about it."

"They're..."

But how does one really explain the Boneys? Skeletal terrors fuelled by hatred and the driving need for entropy? He thinks of the number of times he had watched the creatures approach one of the Dead who was straying, to methodically show them the same tired photographs, to put them back on the 'straight and narrow', to...

Well, it had never really worked, so R isn't actually sure what all that was for.

"Everything that was human in them is gone. They can't be cured. They're too far gone. I think... the Dead gather together anyway. The Boneys just... they're what happens to us when we go all the way."

"Huh. Sounds a little like the walkers but with... something else, too."

Walkers were mindless, at least. It was the one good thing about them. The dead were just a background- something to be aware of, something to avoid being surrounded by- but ultimately much less of a threat than the living.

"It's gotta suck, having to contend with them. I guess they really hate the idea of you guys finding your lives again."

"You have no idea."

R grimaces, the memories of his encounters with those things coming back in uncomfortable, colourful flashes. He doesn't doubt he'll see them again. Evil like that doesn't just disappear in the face of a good thing beginning to happen - no, it pushes back against it.

"Since the Cure, we don't see them as much. We see... mm. Bits of them. Sometimes."

"So maybe they're dying out with the cure?"

That's an optimistic stance on the whole thing and he knows it. Chances are they'll be back in one form or another. Maybe for a dying thresh before they go down for good. One last shot at destroying everything. Evil fucks like that tend to go down hard like that.
