[Sunburst's smile eases, becomes a little less forced and a lot more genuine at the prospect of talking about his favourite subject. He turns it a little so Pike can see the title: The Picture of Dorian Gray.]

Oh, yes! It's a fascinating insight into what makes us decent people. Like if mortality wasn't a worry, how much would we cling to social norms? What was ethically acceptable?

I read that a very long time ago, but from what I remember, he decides that decency isn't for him.
bibliocorn: (This book is more interesting than you)

[He chuckles.]

Pretty much! I might add it to the curriculum next year. They seemed to like Count just fine, but I think it's been a little too hefty for them.

[The book is like a brick, Sunburst, come on.]
failed_astrophysics: (Bullshit)

Physically or mentally?

[But wait a minute.........]

You have students that actually do the reading?
bibliocorn: (Um whatnow)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-07-05 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly a bit of both.

[You could kill a man with the Count of Monte Cristo. He arches a brow, surprised.]

Um...yes? You don't?
failed_astrophysics: (Amused and Proud)

[personal profile] failed_astrophysics 2019-07-06 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[That gets a grin that says, he's not surprised.]

I don't. I guess they like literature better than history.
bibliocorn: (Shitty-ass apology)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-07-07 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure they enjoy history just fine. After all, it's vitally important. How are you supposed to know where you're going if you don't know where you've been?

[Sunburst happily supports all learning here.

Except for Stan's scamming lessons. Never those.
]

[personal profile] failed_astrophysics 2019-07-08 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, it's important. It's how we keep from making the same mistakes.

[Pike feels the same way about the scamming lessons. Teaching kids how to do that was just....wrong in his book.]

I hope so, and I do my best to make it interesting, but there are a lot of kids who think adding ninjas to papers is funny.
bibliocorn: (My cutie mark is glowing)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-07-08 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure the kids will figure that out eventually.

[Though exams are looming upon them, so they better figure it out fast.]

I mean, I have a few who make the characters into the novels into manga heroes, so I understand the pain.

...

There is no few. It's just Mabel Pines.

I hope so.

[He has a few that actually care, a few that are just oblivious, then the rest of them.]

I mean I guess that it's good that she's interacting with the material?

[But he is oh so totally amused]
bibliocorn: (Page flip)

[personal profile] bibliocorn 2019-07-16 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
There is that. I mean- I'd rather her take it a little more seriously, but at least she read the thing. I'll take what I can get.

[Beggars can't be choosers, and all that.]
