+ Something Is Coming +

Who: Everyone! (Plus a special guest.)
Where: In their dreams
When: 9/11-9/13
Rating: Let's go with PG-13
Summary: Something is coming...
The Story:

Starting on the night of September 11 and continuing for the following 2 nights, characters will go to sleep as normal. However, they will find that their dreams are unexpectedly vivid. Even characters who don't normally dream will experience this. Even characters who don't normally sleep will experience it.

Many of Wonderland's guests have dealt with events that distorted their dreams before, but this? This is a little different. Because something is coming in those dreams. Something not altogether friendly.

If you'd like your character to encounter this...something, post their dreams to this log.

A moor might not be enough. Before he can close it, the little lizards begin to leap not at him, but at one another, seeming to fuse together.

At least they're no longer M-shaped?

He stops, staring at them. That's disturbing, and it's certainly breaking the rules of the dimension. Ford reaches into a pocket, closing a hand around the Particle Splitter he's been carrying around for over a year, stepping further back into the room, but not taking his eyes off the strange mass of reptilian bodies.

The new mass bubbles and writhes as it fights to take on some non-M shape. Or any shape.

The lizard that had been clinging to Ford's leg, sitting a little ways away now, leaps at him again, as though about to try to fuse with him.

Ford leaps away, toward the window.

"Stay back!"

Out comes the Particle Splitter, its two-dimensional blade and safety-precaution force field humming to life. Consider yourself warned, lizard: leap at him again and you're getting particle-split.

Are you faster than a lizard, Ford?

Or the crazy amalgamation of a dozen lizards that's coming through the door now?

That lone lizard retreats and joins the mass that comes slinking toward him, moving too quickly considering it hasn't quite decided how many legs it wants to have.

He might be, in better circumstances.

Ford decides to take the extra way out, which is, to turn and run and do a somersault through the M-shaped bedroom window. Glass goes everywhere. His coat tears on the center point of the M. But hopefully, it will either have to break apart to follow him -- and be slower -- or just get caught in the window.

His back is turned, though. If one of them is alone and particularly quick, it might get him.

There are plenty of lizards to go around and one of the few remaining M-shaped ones is just made for going through that awful window after him. The larger one tries, but its indeterminate shape isn't helping it there.

The lone mizard leaps after Ford, landing on his back, its little claws suddenly much sharper than they ought to be.

It's especially painful since the coat he wears all the time has a big old rip down the back, so there are fewer protective layers than usual. Ford flinches, arching his back like an ice cube's just gone down it, and claws over his shoulder.

"Nngh!"

Get off!

Unfortunately, the human race isn't exactly an ideal design, and while Ford might be pretty bendy for an old man (being a cartoon helps), there are absolutely parts of his back he can't reach.

Also, there's the rest of the mizards to worry about.

Safe from Ford's flailing arms, the lizard on his back begins to burrow into his skin. It's...an unpleasant feeling, to say the least, as it crawls inside his skin.

Deeply unpleasant.

"Oh, no." Ford casts around for anything he can use, anything not M-shaped enough that he can reach the lizard. "No, no, no--"

There's the Particle Splitter, deactivated but still in his hand.

Does he try?

Eh. Ford's come back from worse. His own death doesn't mean much to him anymore. Ford twists his arm around backwards and aims at where he feels the pain.

"No you don't!"

It's very easy to cut with this knife. It cuts through just about anything like it isn't there. It's so sharp, Ford doesn't even feel the pain at first -- it takes his severed synapses a good few seconds to register that something's even wrong. But the thing is, it's a narrow blade, and the lizard isn't a big target, and it might have already moved. Point is, Ford might miss.

He doesn't know what's going to happen. If Ford did know, he'd be stabbing with a lot more urgency. But Ford is imagining that this is a physical sort of parasite, and the worst it'll do to him is lay eggs or something, and Ford can find a good mitizen to surgically remove them long before its young start consuming his flesh for sustenance. It'll be fiiiine.

Perfectly fine.

The knife gets the lizard's tail, but that doesn't deter it and it continues to claw its way under Ford's skin.

Once inside, it doesn't lay eggs, though. Instead, it, or some part of it, seems to spread along his nerves, up his spinal cord, to his brain. This is the lizard's--the Jabberwocky's--now, thank you.

All right well that clawing is disgusting and Ford is disgusted, until he realizes that he's no longer in control of his own body.

He'll notice if his heart rate doesn't spike, like it would if it were responding to the fear Ford is feeling. He'll notice everywhere he is and isn't in control. His thoughts, if the Jabberwocky can read them, as long as Ford can have them, are about Bill and about possession and about how Ford wasn't conscious for it last time. He has no idea of what it feels like to be possessed, not just dealing with the aftermath.

This is not fine! This is very bad.

There is one thing going for Ford at this point: this is still a dream. If it weren't, there would be no hope and no going back, at least not any time soon.

But it is a dream and so there's some hope to salvage this if he can pull it off. His will just has to overpower the Jabberwocky's. Easy!

In the meantime, the Jabberwock turns him around to face the...other Jabberwock? coming out through the mindow.

No. No, no, no. Ford's body moves without him telling it to, and it is disconcerting and disturbing and Ford doesn't like it.

He doesn't want to stay here and wait for that monster to get him. He doesn't know what it's going to do, but he doesn't want to stick around and find out. Ford tries to will his legs to run. Run, stupid legs, or you'll get--get eaten, or something!

Ford's legs don't quite run, but they move enough to disrupt the Mabberwocky's plans. Of course, it also results in Ford falling on his face, but it confuses the lizard creature that just came out of the window.
