+ You Know You'll Miss the Zombies +

Who: Everyone
Where: Ericson's Boarding School and its surroundings
When: 10/18-10/22
Rating: A possibly naive PG-13, warn if going higher
Summary: This is the log for the Walking Dead event!
The Story:

DAYS ONE AND TWO
The first two days will be focused on surviving. They need to hunt and cook food, they need to filter water to make it drinkable and they need to do all of this without getting eaten by the walkers roaming around outside the gates. Food is scarce, so they're going to have a lean few days.

DAY THREE
The school will be attacked by raiders, and it's up to them to defend themselves from being kidnapped. They will have to fight with whatever weapons they can get. The raiders, a group called the Delta, will have guns, but they generally aim to hurt rather than kill. After all, they want you alive. Anyone who gets captured will be put on caged carts and dragged off to the Delta's temporary base. In the Delta's frontal assault, they cave in the big gates defending the school- allowing walkers to stream in. Best try to not get eaten while you fight to avoid capture. This will need strong fighters.

DAYS FOUR AND FIVE
Go rescue your friends! The Delta can be found on a steamboat upriver. Anyone captured will be shoved in cages and subjected to the Delta's brainwashing techniques. You want to stay with the Delta, you want to fight for the Delta, the Delta is your family, the Delta will keep you safe, the Delta are all that matters now. Disobedience is dealt with sharply. They're not afraid of cutting off fingers or slicing out tongues to the insubordinate. If they can't coerce you into their service, they'll use fear instead.

Those who survived the attack will need to go to the boat to save their friends. They'll need to hide through a swarm of walkers to get close enough and sneak on board. They'll have another fight on their hands while they free their friends. This will need those with good stealth abilities. Also if someone can build a bomb to blow that boat to kingdom come again, that would be great.

A. DAY ONE AND TWO

[When Ericson's was a regular boarding school and the dead didn't get back up and start human flesh, Stan had been an absolutely miserable nine-year-old. He'd been sent there for breaking his twin brother's big important project, which had been the last straw in a long series of things Stan had done wrong in their father's eyes. School was never really his strongest suit - most of it was so useless and stupid. When's he ever going to need to do advanced math? And who cares who all the presidents were? Not him.

For a split second, the zombies had almost been at improvement - at least, until their own started dying and the food started running out. The swankiest school in the area became overgrown with weeds. His family is probably dead, and if not they're definitely not risking their tails to pick him up from the bad kids' school.

And now, Stan's seventeen. He's grown enough that he's had to take clothes from older students and teachers who didn't make it, but he tries not to think about that too much. It's not like they're going to be using them any time soon. He's a little grubby and rough around the edges, and his hair's grown out into some sort of mullet that he thinks looks cool.

In general he's a good mix of helpful and not at all helpful. He was absolutely one of the ones who started breaking things and scrawling graffiti all over, and he's always got ridiculous shenanigans ready to go when things get too serious and glum. He's also pretty good in a fight and with cobbling together makeshift weapons and traps, so despite his silliness he still earns his keep. Plus, he always kind of liked fishing, so he's happy to take that on.

Most of the first day is spent fishing if anyone wants to join him, but ultimately they don't catch nearly enough. The second day is spent staving off the hunger the way totally responsible people do - by rummaging through under-used parts of the school and getting up to trouble to get his mind off it.
]

B. DAY FOUR

[Of course he got caught. He should have figured that would happen one of these days. He'd say that he's going to die here, but given how much dying sucks these days it's probably going to be worse than that. He's probably going to be dismembered and left alive, or killed and then immediately killed again before he can take anyone with him. It probably depends how much he annoys them - it usually comes down to that kind of thing.

He's trying to play it cool, but he's freaking out inside. He looks over at the nearest cage with another person in it, and the second they're alone he forces up an awkward laugh.
]

So, uh. What're you in for?

[It's a bad joke, but it's the best he's got.]

C. DAY FIVE

[It's been a brutal day and a half. These Delta guys really don't fuck around.

Stan's not stupid, contrary to the belief of plenty of other people. He only gets one or two smart remarks in before they're threatening to remove his tongue, so he learns pretty quick to keep his mouth shut when they're around. He's already tried to pick the lock on the cage, so now his hands are bound behind his back. They said if tries it again they'll cut his hands off, and Stan one hundred percent believes that so he hasn't tried to untie himself.

Something in his chest hurts - not surprising, since one of them kicked him pretty hard when they caught him. It's something to focus on other than being in a literal cage though, so that's something. He feels kind of lightheaded too - it's been a while since he ate, and he stupidly turned away the last bit of food they tried to give him because he was pissed off.

Still, he's trying to think of something, anything that will get him out of here. Maybe if he plays along he can get them to think he's on their side and then jump overboard? No, no. They've got guns; they'll just shoot him dead in the water. But maybe if he's sneakier than that. Maybe if he befriends them and then ditches in the middle of the night.

After all, it's up to him to get himself out of this hole. It's not like anyone's coming for him, right?

[So many people are coming to find Stan Pines.

It's just one very smelly, very quiet teenager who makes it there, a little ahead of the crowd. No, seriously, he smells very bad. Ford's got tunnel vision, checking the cages as he goes and passing them by, leaving then for others to save, until he gets to--

--there. There he is. That has to be him, Ford knows the Pines jaw and Pines curls and Pines nose. Ford grew into them all himself.

Hood up, he approaches Stan's cage, breathlessness and nervousness hidden a little by his disgusting flesh coat. He says the name like he's not sure, and is hoping he's right, and afraid he'll turn out to be wrong.
]

Stanley?

[personal profile] stananigans 2019-10-21 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Someone's coming. Stan's gotten pretty good at hearing his captors, and he tenses as he watches the shadows for some kind of movement.

Then the scent hits him, and for a second his stomach bottoms out. He knows that scent too well. It's walker scent, the scent of rot and decay. They probably got some kind of infestation on board. He's still bound, but he's in a cage so he's pretty sure it doesn't really change his odds of survival, but it does make the situation different.

Except...it doesn't move like a walker. Once visible, it walks like a living human. Stan watches the guy check cages, until eventually he comes into view. It's hard to see the guy's face, so Stan just glares and assumes the worst -- that it's another Delta goon here for another round. He's bruised and filthy, but he still looks at the guy like he might pummel him if given the chance. Every bit of body language screams "Don't fucking touch me."
]

Maybe. Who's asking?

[...Wait. Did he give any of these guys his name?

He's pretty sure he didn't, but before he can really think about that more, the full odor hits him in the face now that the guy is up close. It breaks Stan's tough guy act entirely, and he wrinkles his nose and gags. He can't even cover his nose. This might be the worst thing that's happened so far.
]

Ugh! Holy shit, you reek!

[It is him. It has to be. Undeterred by Stanley's disgust, Ford moves in close to the bars, almost pressing his face to them.

He pulls the hood back with one six-fingered hand, revealing a breathless, nervous, barely-daring-to-hope expression.
]

Stanley. Stanley, it's me!

[Two hands wrap around the cage bars, the number of fingers clearly countable.]

It's Stanford.

[Please. Please recognize him. Please let him have the right guy. Please please please.]

[Souji had the same idea as Stan, but Stan beat him to it. Souji was okay with that, figuring Stan wouldn't mind too much if he joined him. He comes up to stand beside him, making just enough noise to not startle him, but not enough to attract unwanted attention.]

[Stan doesn't jump. He could hear him coming, and he didn't sound like anything dangerous.

When he looks, he realizes it's not someone he knows super well, but someone that's been staying at Ericson's. So, Stan waves a hand casually.

ALICE | AU | OTA

[personal profile] curiousher 2019-10-19 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
A. DAY ONE AND TWO

[Alice hasn't been at Ericson's very long, only a year or so. She's much too young to have been a student there when it was open as a school, since she's only twelve, and she's a bit of a mystery to the others. For the first month she was there she barely spoke a word, and she gave a different name to every person who asked - Margaret, Sarah, Harriet, Florence, Esther, Louise, etc. It was ages before anyone was sure that it was probably Alice, and even then who really knows?

When the zombies popped up, Alice was only about four. Presumably she had a mother and a father, but she doesn't remember them or much about her life before this at all. She's apparently been roaming the woods for most of her life, and will happily tell anyone that she was raised by cats, or wolves, or snakes, or whatever animal she feels like pretending to be at the time. Her accent is English, which is even more of a mystery at this point (given they're in America). How did she even get here?

Mostly she's survived by hiding rather than fighting, so she isn't much help on that front. She also acts a bit younger than her age, and spends most of her time in the earlier days trying to get people to play games with her. When not doing that, she is exploring the grounds and looking for more hiding places.
]

B. DAY THREE

[The raid comes and goes, and Alice seems to have vanished into thin air. For a fleeting moment, it seems like she might be among the captured.

However, after some time, there's a creak up near the ceiling and the cover to a vent crashes to the ground. Then Alice leans out, hanging upside-down like a little monkey.
]

Are they gone?

C. DAY FOUR AND FIVE (WILDCARD)

[Alice will not be joining the rescue party, so anyone who wants anything else with her while everyone else is gone, hit me up!]

DAY ONE AND TWO

[When Louis woke up in his own bed in his own dorm, for a brief moment he thought he'd been sent home, and he actually felt glad for it. Clem had gone and if he was home, it meant she was here. He could fight back the god-awful feeling of loneliness that had been eating at him since she left.

Of course, it became quickly apparent as he wandered the halls, and checked into rooms of his friends that this wasn't the case. This was a fucking Event and it was absolutely his. He was the only one left in the mansion from his home world. Shit. He had a damn good idea what was coming and he hoped it didn't, but regardless, he'd have to do something to try and makes this mess sail through as smooth as possible.

Maybe people can find him checking up on folks, heading from door to door. Perhaps they choose to go hunting with him, he knows how to set a snare and while he knows he can't get enough to feed everyone, he's going to try. You might find him on the lookout tower staring intently out in on direction- he ignores the walkers, only casting them the slightest bit of attention if they wander too close to the walls-where he picks up a rock and tosses it away, the clacking sound it makes against a tree branch enough to divert them away. One the scant moments he allows himself to relax even slightly, he can be found tending to the graves- chatting worriedly at the markers there, and very rarely still in the common room- staring at the piano and not playing it- his eyes on the little L+C carved into the wood. Whatever he's doing, his usual carefree self is depressingly absent. He looks frazzled and tired. He doesn't know how to get everyone through this mess alive.
]

DAY THREE

[He'd been expecting it to come and yet he still had hoped, in his tiniest heart of hearts, that it wouldn't come. But of course, it did. This is based on his shitty memories, and why should his shitty memories not run their shitty course? He's a better fighter than when they first attacked- out of necessity. He'll never be good at long range, though- he can be found darting through the lines, trying to drag anyone in trouble to safety. He hates hurting people, and he does his goddamn best not to hurt any of the Delta members- he hates them sweet GOD, he hates them so much, but he attacks any that get too close. When the walkers come, he focuses on them, shouting to try and divert them away from anyone not skilled enough to take them on, using Chairles to whack the fuckers down. ]

DAY FOUR AND FIVE

[Louis remembers where the Delta's boat was, and that's... something. Before the rescue mission, he can be found pouring over the map, muttering to himself, trying to work out the best plan of attack. They don't have James here, and he is not willing to try and lead a bunch of walkers from the barn to the riverbank- he doesn't know how to do it and it'd make a dangerous mission complete suicide. So they'll have to make do with what they have.

He'll for sure be there to sneack on the boat however much he hates covering himself in walker guts. And once inside, he knows where the cells are. He's been in them himself, after all. He will head to the nearest cell- working on getting the door open.
]

Hey. Get ready, we're busting you out of here.

As he's exploring, he finds Louis out by the graves. Souji stands a bit back like he's trying to give Louis some privacy. He'll just wait until he's noticed.]

[Louis genuinely isn't sure who has their memories and who doesn't- it's always a tricky thing to ask. You can't politely put 'hey do you remember Wonderland?' into a conversation and not come across as a crazy person. Especially in his world. Jesus.

Still, he catches sight of Souji and offers a smile. It doesn't quite meet his eyes- he's tired and worried and it's showing.

Louis has seen humanized Lapises before, but they don't know each other that well in the first place and recognizing any given dirt-smudged teenage version could still be a bit of a tossup. It's also not immediately apparent what she remembers, although one may be able to guess that she's going around scoping the joint out. [personal profile] singloversing 2019-10-31 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Wirt has been looking for Louis, but has been awkwardly balancing that with being terrified to go anywhere. First of all, it's definitely some kind of apocalypse, but even more than that his anxiety has been like, on fire ever since he realized most people don't actually remember Wonderland. But as soon as it became apparent that people were talking about Walkers instead of Zombies, he knew who he needed to find.

Maybe he shouldn't have been surprised to see him by the piano, but when he approaches his heart sinks. Louis looks so tired.
]

...Louis?

[He has no idea what to follow that up with though, what would be most appropriate in this moment. Anything he was going to ask him has evaporated out of his head, and now he's left with just this greeting and a worried look on his face.]
teamfun: (So if you find I'm sleeping)

[personal profile] teamfun 2019-10-31 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Louis is so damn glad to see Wirt- Wirt's one of the few of his people left. He doesn't know for sure if Wirt has his memories intact or not. People suddenly have a fake memory of living here and knowing him and it's weird and he hates it. But he's also too goddamn exhausted to play pretend- at least with Wirt, out of everyone left here. ]

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey Wirtster. [It's an attempt at joviality but it falls horribly flat.] God, please tell me you remember Wonderland- at the risk of sounding like a crazy person.

Pre-event

Ford has spent the last six years in the wilderness, like a tiny, gory little Aragorn. He's survived on scavenged supplies, learned to move silently, and has disguised his human smell by living covered in zombie parts. Good thing his immune system's strong.

He's run into plenty of people on the road, but they've never stayed together: Ford is on a singleminded quest to get to Ericson's Boarding School. He has two treasures: an old, creased pamphlet with the school's address, and a photograph of two boys playing on a ramshackle sailboat on a beach. Ford will fight tooth and nail over them. Don't touch them.

Day three

After the walkers have been cleared and the gate has been thrown open, some rando wanders in.

He's disgusting, wearing a poncho made of decaying human skin, but when he drops the hood, it's clear that this is just a gross teenager. He pulls a pamphlet out of his pocket and checks it, looking from the images on the page to the ruined buildings.

Yep, this is the place, all right. But is anyone here even alive? It looks pretty....walker-ified. Ford's heart sinks. Had his father been right all along? Is Stanley really just....long gone?
curiousher: (Really?)

Day Three!

[personal profile] curiousher 2019-10-25 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
The place is quiet once the walkers go, both due to people being missing and people feeling somber about the missing before any plans are made. Alice in particular knows she will be more useful remaining behind, so she's tried to stay out of it.

But, it does mean she's there loitering around when someone else enters the school. She quietly tucks herself away, but if Ford looks up, he'll see someone small watching him from the staircase, peering through the bars on the upper level.

She doesn't call out right away. Not until she's sure he's not a stray walker they missed.

Stanford Pines has survived 19 years in a horror canon.

Of course he looks up.

He blinks, not believing his eyes at first. He squints behind his old, too-small glasses.

He doesn't make a sound.

Alice? he signs.

Nageki Fujishiro | AU | OTA

[personal profile] mourning_ghost 2019-10-20 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Days 1 and 2
[The first thing Nageki does each day is get water and make it drinkable. He keeps extra water around, to be on the safe side. But without water, he'll quickly die. The water is stashed in a hiding spot he's secured for himself within the building, carefully hidden in what used to be his bedroom. Back when this place was actually a school. He's managed to keep some of his childhood books around here.]

[The second thing Nageki needs to do is gather food. This is harder. Nageki has learned how to hunt and set traps, but he's never been very good at it. He's much better at cooking the food that others bring. That's the trade he makes most of the time. Sometimes, Nageki sees someone who needs the food more than he does. Those days, he gives away as much as he can spare. He can hear Hitori's chastisements in his head ("You need to look after yourself more, Nageki!") but helping others is the right thing to do. He'd give away more if it weren't for the fact that Hitori is likely looking for him. It wouldn't be right to leave Hitori looking for someone who no longer exists, either.]

[The other things he does depends on what's needed. He doesn't have many weapons: just a knife taken from the kitchen years ago. He uses it for cooking too, so he needs to keep the knife sharp. He does his best to keep the sheets clean, which requires finding ways to wash them without attracting Walkers. He'll search for things to read or games that can be played or look for new hiding spots for when he needs to avoid Walkers or humans alike.]

Day 3
[Nageki doesn't fight back after he's taken away. He isn't a good fighter and has survived mostly be keeping away from anyone or anything that might pose a danger. Up until now it's served him well, but Nageki is woefully unprepared when there isn't any choice but to fight.]

[He curls up in the corner of his cell, as small as he can make himself. Does anything know what happened? Is there anyone who will attempt a rescue? Or is Nageki on his own again? He needs more information before he can figure out what he needs to do.]

Day 4 and 5
[Keeping quiet and making himself unnoticeable only go so far.]

[Nageki does as he's ordered, eats the food that he's given and drinks whatever water they choose to give him. He watches for any holes in their security that he can use to escape or any tools he can gather to help himself. Before he does anything drastic, he needs a plan. He doubts he'll get a second escape attempt after he attempts his first.]

[But there are other captives, as well. He can't escape and leave everyone else behind. Which means Nageki needs a plan that gets everyone out. That will take far longer than just securing his own escape. He doesn't want to get help - it would be harder to keep any plan a secret if he's sharing it and then there's a chance of betrayal - but there might not be any other choice.]

[He watches his fellow captives. He needs to figure out who he can trust, if he does want to ask anyone for help.]
curiousher: (Run)

Day 1

[personal profile] curiousher 2019-10-25 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Alice is young - too young to have been a student when Ericson's was open as a school. But she's been hanging around since she stumbled on the place several months ago, and today she's investigating the bookcases in the common room when he goes to look for something to read.

She keeps plucking books off the shelf, flipping through them and then putting them back. Finally, she notices that someone else is there and turns.
]

...There's no pictures in any of these!

[He can't remember any time the place had picture books.]

These are meant for older children. But I think I might know where one book with pictures is.

[He does think that he remembers a couple graphic novels used to be here, though. He'd found it hidden underneath the receptionist desk when he'd dropped a pencil. Nageki had left it there, uninterested in that kind of book.]

Bill Cipher | AU | OTA

[personal profile] tetractys 2019-10-22 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Days 1 & 2]

[Absolutely no one was more psyched to learn that all the teachers and parents were dead than Bill Cipher.

He's gone in the last span of years from an awkward, loud kid who broke his fingers a lot and bit people to a smug, loud teenager who bites people less but has never really lost the reputation for it.

Bill is almost always wearing some kind of tie and jacket. Bill didn't wait to grow into anything left behind in the staff's closets before he started wearing them. He keeps his clothes clean so he can look good, which has expanded to having laundry usually be his chore. He's been teaching himself French with far more enthusiasm than he ever did learning it in an actual class.

He's basically been treating the apocalypse like some kind of glamping retreat. A few mildly horrifying things make this possible, such as his apparent inability to feel pain and his cheerful lack of regard for human life. He'd probably be a very dangerous guy if he was ambitious, but being in charge of people just isn't his style. He's pretty okay being where he is! Lots of books, a piano, people that bring food to him...

Being restricted to a tiny little camp isn't ideal, but in times like this who's got a better setup?

curiousher: (How curious!)

Day 1

[personal profile] curiousher 2019-10-25 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Having clean clothes is honestly a luxury that Alice had never considered before she found herself at Ericson's. People launder their clothes? They don't just wear them until they get entirely unbearable and then rob an abandoned place for new ones? The whole thing is very curious to her, so sometimes she sneaks over while he's washing clothes.]

Aren't they just going to get dirty again? It seems like a lot of effort for the sake of fanciness.

[Not that she's stopping him or anything - she just can't understand it herself.]

Day 1

[personal profile] tetractys 2019-10-26 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, by that logic why eat if you're just gonna be hungry again. They're clean now.

[Bill gestures at his outfit - today a blouse and waistcoat, corduroys that were meant for someone less emaciated from hunger and cinched with a belt.

They are... not clean at all by the standards of the pre-apocalypse, there are some serious stains going on that he's not going to waste boiled water to try to scrub, and some tears that hand-sewing can't fix, but they're remarkably un-caked in any kind of gore or muck or dust, and they look like they've been cared for.]

I like it. You've got stuff you like.
