[Ishimaru frowns. This deception must hurt Junko as much as it does him. Could that be the real reason she was pushing Junko away?]

Yes, I am sorry to say that we were both deceived by that mirror. But I gave her a stern talking-to, and hopefully she will stop trying to play such tricks!

[He holds up the notebook and looks at its cover uncertainly. He doesn't open it yet.]

...Ah... I have yet to actually open it! You see, I am very hesitant at going through someone's private journal without her permission... b-but if there is a clue here that can save Otonashi-kun, I suppose that I will just have to ask for her forgiveness later!

[He takes a nervous gulp before he hesitantly opens the book and starts to lead through it, in search of anything of interest!]

[Junko is in despair as he starts from the back, but she would've been in despair if he'd started from the front as well. Still, she'll wait quietly while he reads.

The handwriting in the back looks like Ryoko's sure (though honestly the mirror probably has the same handwriting). She had a lot on her mind lately (though all of this is scattered across the last few pages), she was worried about the state of Wonderland and the void, increasingly worried about her Mirror being on this side and what if the Mirror hurt her friends?

From there, it changes to worrying about Junko being here, Ryoko seems relieved she can't hurt Matsuda since he's not here, but like with the Mirror worries about her doing something to her friends and wishing she was a brave enough person to do something to keep that from happening.

At the end there, a slightly erratic scrawl from her saying she was going to the attic to see if she could find something, but that's about it in terms of possible hints.]

...so was there anything helpful in there?

[She doesn't think so unless the Mirror's playing a game she doesn't know about it, but hey, you never know!]

[He's really going against his usual style here! Normally, he's a firm believer of starting any book from the beginning. But this case calls for the opposite. After all, logically, any clues would be in Otonashi's most recent notes - which would be found towards the end of the book. And that also could save him from reading more about her private life than he would like!

He scans through the last pages with notes on them. He sees mentions of the state of Wonderland the void, as well as her concerns about the Mirror, which certainly seem justified! Then he frowns as he looks through the parts about Junko and shakes his head.]

...Ah... her impression of you certainly is misguided... [He can't imagine Junko hurting anyone! He still remembers how Junko assuaged the doubts of Otonashi's that he brought up the last time that they were in Wonderland. Now he just sees that Otonashi's suspicions were even more out of hand than he thought!

But then, his eyes light up as he finds that last scrawl. The exact kind of message he was hoping to find!]

The attic!! [He slams the book shut with a sense of determination!] That is where we must check at once!

[Ishimaru pretty much bolts towards the stairs, without awaiting another word.]

Yeah, I bet she does. But the attic? Really? Isn't it super gross in there?

[She'll do her best to keep up, well not her best, but she's not getting left behind either. She could double back here, but she's not going to. It's better to follow him to the attic where there's...

No sign of Ryoko, which isn't surprising to Junko at all. It'd be way more surprising if they did find her in here with all the junk in the attic.]

You know, I was hoping she'd be in here, but I guess she's not. Wonder if she got lost after writing that in her notebook since y'know, she doesn't have it anymore.

[She'll just throw that idea out there while looking through the junk and hey...look at this. A set of bright colored notebooks that look an awful lot like the ones Ryoko had when she was here last time. They'd been a gift from Maizono at the time, but presumably disappeared when she did.

Though it wouldn't be too hard for some people with really good memories to grab something similar from the closet and recreate the notes within.]

Do you think these are hers? Kinda weird they don't look as dusty as everything else up here.

[Like they were placed recently? How weird is that?]

She must have her reasons! Perhaps as a hiding place, or maybe it is housing some secret?

[The possibilities are endless! But the only way to find out is at the actual attic itself. And so there they go!

As they arrive, he looks around with a thoughtful frown. Sure enough, there's no sign of her. And Junko does point out something that does make a lot of sense.]

Ah... You do raise a valid point, Enoshima-kun. It is unusual that she would leave her notebook behind, when it would be essential for navigating the mansion. That is very puzzling indeed!

[He ponders the possibilities, which mostly seem to involve more lying from the Mirror. But then Junko points out something else. Ishimaru's eyes widen with recognition as she points out those notebooks.]

Wait! Enoshima-kun, I think you are onto something! [He rushes over to her side, to look over one of the books.] Those notebooks... those look just like the ones that Otonashi-kun used during her first stay in Wonderland! I did not expect to see these again. After all, she said that she did not have them when I returned here. They must have gone back home when she did... But then, how could they have ended up here??

Maybe she got them from the vendors? Before everything outside...

[Well, don't think too much about what happened outside with the void. Or do? Junko certainly doesn't mind if he dwells on that one, though she'd rather him focus on the hopelessness of other more personal situations.]

Well, that's not important. But why would she hide these up here? It's a great hiding place since I don't think anyone comes up here, but...

[Junko frowns, thinking this one over.]

Maybe she thought she needed them for something? But needed to put them somewhere where the Mirror couldn't find them? Or where I couldn't find them, I guess. She'd probably want to hide things from me too.

She... does have that irrational fear of you, Enoshima-kun. It is true... [He nods along as he considers the possibilities. Things do seem to be adding them up, to an extent at least. She could have gotten them back from the vendors - before they disappeared.]

If she brought these books up here, it makes sense that she would be able to leave her other notebook behind. Otonashi-kun must be working with multiple notebooks! But that still leaves the question of where she is now.

[He reaches to pick up one of those notebooks.]

Perhaps there can be more clues or insights to be found in one of these books...? These are all that we have to rely on now!
testcase: (that you can't break)

[personal profile] testcase 2020-01-18 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is all we've got. Feels kinda weird going through her stuff like this though. Makes me feel like a creep.

[Except it doesn't at all as she picks up the notebook to start going through it.

And they're exactly what they seem to be. Ryoko's notes from her prior stay in Wonderland. There's maps and notes and detailed accounts of her friends. All sorts of detailed notes on events, records of the couple times she died, items regained, and so on.

There's also things she's learned, the results of that old Dangan cast meeting, a number of diagrams and charts and maps highlighting conflicting information between Ishimaru's class, the island kids, and what she knows. There's even unfortunately some personal information in there, plenty of doodles of Matsuda, wishes that he'd show up in Wonderland, her fears Junko would show up in Wonderland, that kind of thing.

The more they read, the more one might hope that towards the end, there'll be a clue, something to point them towards where Ryoko's disappeared to. But those hopes won't pan out, as the most recent notebook will abruptly end around the time Ryoko disappeared from Wonderland the first time. Sure would be nice if it continued past that, but that would be a little strange wouldn't it?]

Hey...

[Junko looks over at him, trying to be reassuring in what she knows must be a despair inducing moment. He came all the way up here looking for a hint, a sign, something as to her whereabouts and instead, he was confronted with almost everything his friend was. Not everything everything, of course, she's still holding on to that one last reveal in case Wonderland pulls through, but while he may be right about her being more than the sum of her notes, they still paint an almost complete picture of her.]

I know we didn't find anything but...she's got to be around here, right? So we'll jut have to keep looking. I mean...her room's still here, and that mirror's still here, so she still has to be here somewhere, right?

[It's not a lie, in fact it's the absolute truth, but that doesn't stop her heart from sinking into further despair telling it. But she'll just sow that seed of hope that Ryoko Otonashi is in the mansion somewhere. It's important to her that people hope that, that people want to find her. Because Ryoko Otonashi's going to fade from their world without a trace, she knows that much, so even as Wonderland falls into the void around them, she should make sure that until they all do the same, that some hope for her continued existence exists until it's time to turn it into despair.]

So we'll definitely find her, all right?
